  • Our extreme sentencing policies and a growing number of life sentences have effectively turned many of our correctional facilities into veritable nursing homes - and taxpayers are paying for it. A new ACLU report supplies detailed and practical solutions that states and the federal government can implement to address the dramatic and costly growth in the number of elderly prisoners without putting communities at risk.

Some didn't murder. Some went in later in life for less than murder. Like me, I am facing 10 years and I am 64 years old. What I did? Shot two warning shts in the air. I could have pointed the weapon at the METH HEAD THREAT BUT I DID NOT! HE then Lied about it. He was fixing to climb the fence with " I will beat you to death" at my disabled female friend while she was in her truck on her property! So, NO, not Everyone commits " Murder" to get into prison!

Question is, where do they go if they are let out. Will they be cared for? Some of these guys been in jail so long the other inmates are more like family. Lots to be considered here.

TrueNature I think the film The Shawshank Redemption touches on this subject better then anything else. One of the saddest moments in that film is when the oldest prisoner finally makes parole and he doesn't want to leave because his whole world for the past 40+ years was prison life.

Keep them there. Or the state would have to pay for a nursing home.

it depends on the crime if it is a cold blooded murder no the victim didn't get a second chance the victim's familys dont get to see the victim again there is an old saying if you can't do the time then don't do the crime

Don’t you think these elderly prisoners are much safer in prison getting healthcare and food? Or would you rather release them and let them roam free, getting their meals from trash cans and living under Interstate 10?

Not really exspensive, the prisoners are the carers on a pittance. Outside it would cost so mch more.

Productive members of society? Dude, these are lifers, most on their death bed's. Let them die in the prison where they know everyone now ffs.. How is getting these dudes out of prison not just adding a burden to somewhere else in society?
