Don’t you love how quiet it is!?! We had a lot of snipe because the bed rollers were a little too high for us… a straight edge and a half hour adjusting them to be perfectly level with the table will solve it!
Bruce, I think you'll find that reducing down to 4" flex hose instead of increasing to 6" rigid pipe will cause your collector to work harder. I had that problem until I increased my air flow with 6" pipe and reduced to 5" at the machine. It's also recommended that you place your blast gate at the machine. All in all I believe you'll find the machine more than you'll most likely ever need in a home workshop. Forgot to mention, the cutter inserts are very easy to turn or replace once to get to that need. I've had mine for 3 years now and have just turned 4 of them (I let a "friend" run some pallet wood through). Thanks for the "Time well spent" video.
I'll definitely keep that in mine. I actually had 2 of the 3 ports open (one of them being this planer) for my dust collector. That seems to be the remedy to not make the DC work too hard is leave more than one port open if they're smaller like this. Oh man...that friend's pallet wood made me cringe. ha ha. Thanks for watching!
I don't see the helical head ones come up very often. I had been looking for a long time. It is a substantial upgrade from the smaller lunchbox planers. I had the Dewalt 735 before this one.
Awesome machine. I have a MUCH smaller jointer with carbide cutters. The manufacturer suggested removing all of them and cleaning them, then reinstalling before you start using the tool. Has the same cosmoline coating for shipping. I'm guessing thats what was all over your beautiful tables. Hope it doesn't stain any of your pieces.
Nah, it’ll be ok. They didn’t mention that anywhere in the manual. I’m not taking a piece straight from this to finish so I’ll be able to sand anything first.
@@StephenGoggin Yeah, I like that idea. There's a huge price gap to jump from that DeWalt to this one. I think that's why so many people don't. I'll mull it over. ;)
Good video, Bruce~! I've been considering getting a Grizzly 15" helical head planer as an upgrade to my 10-year old Dewalt 733. After seeing this video (and a few others), I'm now thinking that upgrading to a 20" might be a better move. Going from a 12" to 15" is "that much" of an upgrade, but up to a 20" should tackle anything I can throw at it. Looking forward to hear more of what you have to say about your G1033X. Thanks much~!

I found your channel because of your support of the WBAT podcast. I looked you guys up after hearing that you were top tier patrons for so long.
It’s SO quiet! Shocking, really. I’ll keep that in mind. That video I linked had a few small things you could adjust and get it all perfect.
Getting ready to order this machine and the 16” jointer.
I still really like it. Use it all the time and rarely even get snipe.

Thank you thank you thank you, My 1033 arrives Friday so the timing on this couldn’t be better!
Awesome! Hope it saves you some time! Look at that video I linked if you need to calibrate it. It’s very good
Congrats in your new machine, great addition to the shop. Keep us updated.
Thank you! Yeah, it it a welcomed addition. Will do!
Nice planer! Video quality and sound is so good Bruce…well done!!!
Really appreciate that, Josh! I put a lot into these videos...means a lot to hear that.
Looks fun. Too late now but when I install cast iron wings or tables I put a couple boards across and then clamp the table to them.
That’s a good idea. I’ll keep that in mind for next time.
Just got mine delivered and your video helped out. Thanks
Oh great! Glad to hear it.
Nice planer. I've been trying to find a second hand one like that for about 6 months. I'd really like to upgrade from my 12.5" Porter Cable planer.

@@BruceAUlrich I've thought about upgrading to the DeWalt, but figured if I'm upgrading, it won't be for 0.5" capacity. I want at least 18".
FYI, thanks for the WBAT podcast. That's how I found you.
Good call. Maki it count!

Congrats on the awesome upgrade!
Thank you! It is unbelievable how quiet this one is for such a large machine.
Congrats on the new machine!
Thanks so much!
Good video buddy, If you ever need to take the in/out feed tables off you should be able to use some bar clamps as legs to hold the tables up.
Yeah, that could work for sure!
Heck of a machine! Enjoyed the video Bruce!
Thanks, Mike! I’m really liking the possibilities this opens up!
That thing looks like a beast. I hope you’ll do a performance comparison between it and your old one.
I don’t have the older one any more so I don’t know exactly what I would compare. Do you have ideas you’re looking to see?
@@BruceAUlrich I was just thinking some serious woodworkers like yourself may want to know how it compares and if it’s worth the upgrade.
@@StephenGoggin Yeah, I like that idea. There's a huge price gap to jump from that DeWalt to this one. I think that's why so many people don't. I'll mull it over. ;)
That looks like a beast and I can’t wait to see what you make with it!!!
Thank you! I’m really liking it so far! Time to build stuff.
Great information Bruce!!! Wow super quiet!!!
Thanks so much! Yeah, it's pretty dang quiet. The dust collector was trying to 1-up the planer. ha ha
Oh man... The helical heads are SO QUIET compared to the lunch box straight blades. That alone is worth the cost. Congrats on the new upgrade!
Thank you! You’re so right! My dust collector actually didn’t let you hear the planer in the video. Ha
Pretty quiet too. Congrats man!
Thanks so much! Yeah, it is pretty quiet. My dust collector was actually so loud, you couldn't really tell. ha
Hopefully it works great. Looks like a amazing machine!
I was so glad I didn’t have snipe. Thank you!
looks like a nice machine!
It really is!
Awesome looking machine, Bruce! 😃
Congrats!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks so much, MC! I'm looking forward to putting it to use.
That’s a sweet setup!
Thanks so much! Good to see you on here again! This planer is a beast
Thanks for the video 👍👍
Thank you for watching!
What a beast!
And that planer is also pretty sweet!
LOL! I see what you did there. ;)
Very nice! I got the Jet version last week :)
Oh sweet! I have a friend who has that one.

It should be the only one you ever need
Nice monster …. I just got rid of a powermatic 15” that looked very similar (not helical)
What are you rocking now?
That’s the one I want!!!
It’s a nice machine!
I’ll just be over here with my screamin’ dewalt! Hahaha
The Banshee! Ha ha. That’s what I had before this. Still a solid planer
❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
You got took
What do you mean?
This really hurts watching you trying to set this machine up.
Hmmm...ok. Why is that?
