- DakhaBrakha is a four-piece Ukrainian music group that's easy to love, but hard to categorize. Their sound is rooted in the traditional motifs and instrumentation of their homeland. But they've synthesized their folk roots with music of the western world in a unique and powerful new way. I had the special privilege to capture their show in Minneapolis, thanks to their Art Manager, Iryna Gorban. Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible.

Why 'fighting back' ?!? - You're holding back Tears-Of-Joy, and nothing else!!
Nothing to be ashamed of..., in the contrary: that's just a sign for a high sensitivity to music/sounds. Just let them flow..., and discover a new experience of 'Crying-Joy' !
Not many people, I know, have the ability of 'letting the music flow directly into their heart' .
Most people are just able only to listen with their ears ('eyes..., which can not see the essential' 'The Little Prince' by Saint-Exupéry)!!

Surely unfamiliar to most 'civilized' persons, but these were 'TEARS OF JOY'.
DakhaBrakha's music comes DIRECTLY from the HEART, without making any detour to the brain, so it reaches the absolute 'ESSENCE OF HUMAN NATURE', which everybody was permanently aware of,....BEFORE 'Adam & Eve' ;-)
@@HiHi-lf1hx Nina's singing lament is a pure jewel put upon the flowing river of emotions created by Olena and Yrina's incantations. They could recite the user guide of a microwave oven, they would radiate the same intensity and light! It happens to be an old folk love song.

So according to you, 'creativity' is only the result of combining several associations in one's brain.
That's one way, that leads to crativity, but the result is mostly 'junk', just 'intellectual beauty', maybe.
To the contrary, DakhaBrakha's creativity comes directly from THE HEART, without making any detours to the brain (with it's EGO) and without depending on any culture or environment,...it's just WHAT IT IS: Pure JOY ;-) !!
@@HiHi-lf1hx heart vs head? I believe that their music is a combination of the two! I'm a musician and when you find a melody or a riff or whatever, it necessarely (is that correct ? ) comes from somewhere out of intellectual control, lets say 'heart' to resume! But you need your head afterwards to make your inspiration become a construction like "Baby". Imagine endless discussions between the 4 musicians about this or that....And the process of their music is that montage from different pieces of texts and old melodies put together on a rythm, a groove from Nina 's cello or any thing else. When you create music in a group it means lots of talking. ...😉and the ego question is central ! 4 egoes must be in tune ....
I was there at the Dakota -- it was a great show - this really brought it home seeing them on this video.

I did a second video for them as well, but apparently the women didn't like their vocals, so it was never shared on their site. I recently experienced live the wonderful immersive power of DakhaBrakha. When the set ended with this song, the audience was of one voice and one word. That word was "Wow". Thanks for capturing this performance. Once one bears witness to the group's special gifts, you look to get back into the world of their music. And my reaction is still "Wow!" with every listen

Wow, I have been listening to this track in particular for a number of months now & it does not diminish it's impact on my in any way no matter how much I hear it. Seeing this beautiful performance just enhances that joy, like some of the people in other comments it is very easy for tears of joy to well up as I listen & now as I watch. Thanks for posting this video. Please come to New Zealand, I'm sure shows could be arranged in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch & Dunedin... I was an actor in Lord of The Rings, I'm also a tour guide, come for 3-4 weeks & I'll gladly be you tour guide!

Hey Bruce. Thanks for the nice comments about the video. I was lucky enough to connect with the band and put together the small crew, including myself, to capture this show in one of the smallest and most intimate venues I think they've ever played. It was also a fun edit and post production experience. I did a second video for them, but apparently the women weren't as happy with their vocals, so they decided not to put it on their website. @@gillesbourgeois5348 Hi Gilles. Thanks for your input. Yes, you are correct. Due to some language challenges between the band and myself, the video you mentioned was mislabeled. Correcting it at this point would be a great idea, but not the easiest to do, for technical reasons I won't bore you with. Incidentally, this is the video the band chose not to put on their own website and home page because they weren't as happy with the vocals. (I can't hear the problems, but then, I think everything they do sounds great.) Anyway, this video gets viewed a lot less than the one I did that they put on their UA-cam page ("Baby"), so I'll probably address the name mistake in a note below the video. Thanks for reaching out.
@@quasiguy this venue is very cool ! I'd love the whole set to be catch...torokh is different from others versions, and knowing the story you can see by their reactions and looking each others that something was not that good. ..if I can I would say that Iryna was a litt le bit more 'inventive' than usual in her singing, maybe too much ? And Marko was shouting much more higher and agressively. Anyway, this tune is not my favorite, but you did a very fine job. Baby is a masterpiece, so moving.
Exquisite! In Mexico they talk about "chicken-skin music", the kind of music that gives you chills. This must be the Ukrainian version.

I feel like was a music bigot of sorts and god made a point on this song with me. I am greatfull that i was alive to hear this. them ... i have. Дуже великою помилкою було ввімкнути DakhaBrakha під робочий процес. Бо постійно відволікаєшся на музику і на саме відео. Бо відчуваєш справжність та щирість музики, і хочеться це відчуття підкріпити хоч в через екран але живим виступом. І от всі ці чари збивають з концентрації над роботою)

@@kawamaker4642 absolutly wrong, Olena Tsybulska plays floor drums, cymbals and various percussions. The only pianist in the group is Iryna Kovalenko.
