She's not speaking for bigger girls, she's speaking for girls and boys of all ages and all sizes who feel the pressure from the media and from those around them to lose weight and to be skinnier because to society skinny is never skinny enough. Some people are bigger some people are smaller. People come in all shapes and sizes and colours and its about time we embraced every single one of them. "My body is home." She's saying that its time to end the war against our bodies and to treat ourselves better and to love every inch of ourselves and if you don't think that that is an amazing lesson to be teaching our young boys and girls then there's a problem. Personally, I think I've found a new hero.

I don't know how you people can bash on this girl at all. She is so strong. Many girls do think like this and if you are rare and you never have I think that is great. Truthfully I have found anything so amazing on UA-cam. It is beautiful and so is Mary Lambert

This song always keeps me grounded, its so deep and and meaningful to bigger girls who hate themselves cause society puts us down, and also just everyone else in general who feels this way, don't change for anyone but yourself, even if people will say that your fat, or too thin or not enough this or that or whatever it may be, don't let that get to you, because your better than that and people deserve better.

I see haters and people who think everything is dumb as being the most insecure of people. These people are so insecure and angry that they insist on putting down everyone else so at least they don't feel so alone. It's their way of lashing out and it's really sad to see. To see someone hate something as beautiful as this is just...really upsetting and it makes me pity them. Why not open up your hearts and minds just once and see the true beauty in this world?

A beautiful woman with a twisted story. All i can say for all those overweight people is beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just because someone said your ugly doesn't make it true. Don't lose the weight just because someone called you fat or ugly, lose it for your health, lose it for your own happiness. And remember most women who get obsessed with weight become so thin that they can't even function intelligently and look like they belong in a coffin.
And don't believe your doctors bull shit weight chart. according to there charts bodybuilders are overweight.
If you have a body like a big opera and you can still dance, run, and generally be active without getting dizzy or taking breaks longer than your being active your fine.

  • @LolaFerricks
    @LolaFerricks 10 років тому +54

Beautiful, no matter what I see in the other comments.
This was more effective said than sung. It lets you concentrate on the words a lot more. When you choose to play music in the background, you don't hav to sing what you want to let out.
The words were beautiful and true. The video was beautiful too.
Of course, I still look upon this with an outside eye, because I know that not only women feel this kind of thing, but it's still amazing. And anyone who says otherwise or judges this just because it was said and not sung, or because of some other minor fact, you're not even worth my or anyone else's time.

The amount of negative comments on this is ridiculous. It's a beautiful song and a beautiful message. Who you are, and your confidence in yourself, shouldn't be based on size, or looks. The narrow minded people who say things like stop stuffing your face, or whatever, should take a second to realize how shallow and judgemental they sound.

I am crying. As someone who just got out of a very dark period in my life, riddled with severe anxiety, shadowed my mild depression, kissed by hatred of my body, and punctuated by self harm, this reminds me of my pain and my fight to get out of it. This reminds me to never stop fighting the fight to love myself and be proud of myself. I love you, Mary Lambert, and I am so thankful for this. Thank you.

I think a lot of people missed the point of this song. This song is a cry from deep inside the soul for the lost and tortured. This song is reaching out to connect to others, letting them know that its okay. Its about being wanted, needed and loved. Its about how you feel about yourself. This song is meaningful poetry. I'm sorry that a lot of you can't get past the "fat" part. It is blinding you so you can't open yourself to the true meaning which is the point of her song.

The comment section on this video just proves how much this song is needed. Saying that she "has to lose weight" and calling her a whale just perpetuates the hate thrown around at people now a days. If she is comfortable with herself why the fuck should she change herself? Yes it may be unhealthy in the long run to be overweight but its HER BODY!

I have watched the music video so many times but I only decided to watch this one and it's so much worse because you can see Mary's facial expressions, her body language and you can hear her voice shrink and falter. I just- Holy shit Mary you are so strong and so beautiful. Thank you for this. You don't know how much this means to girls like me.
(Also to all the haters, just fuck off already okay? You missed the entire point of this..)

This is a beautiful song. It's not just about being a big person, but about not being comfortable in your skin. Not feeling beautiful the way you look. I'm a pretty big girl myself and am pretty healthy for my weight, but don't feel comfortable in my own skin. I wish I could look like the pretty girls, not necessarily skinny but smaller than me. This song is about encouragement, about believing in yourself and looking inside to see past the expectations set upon you by society that claims you are a fat person or you are an ugly person, but to see that you are really a beautiful and unique creature in this vast universe. Thank you, Mary Lambert. This is a brilliant and powerful message!

    Dear Mary Lambert,
You are wonderful. Do not listen to a single one of these negative comments. This is an amazingly beautiful spoken word piece/song. I've listened to it several times now. It gives me chills. It brings me to tears. It's overwhelmingly beautiful and honest. Thank you so much for putting yourself out there. It's not easy. The viewpoints of the people that have said hurtful things in this comment section are the whole reason women have suffered and continue to struggle with their body image. Please never ever ever let their words hurt you. Their words are worthless and spiteful. Instead, let them fuel you with a passion to continue being a lifeline to people out there who also have a hard time loving their own bodies. Thank you for this beautiful masterpiece.

After listening to this song that touched my heart so deeply, I hoped that people would clearly understand the message, too. I, like many other people, struggle with low self-esteem, so I was expecting that other people would take her powerful words about reclaiming our bodies to heart. However, as I read the comments it was obvious that it did not matter that she poured her soul and inner-thoughts into a song for the public because all people saw was her weight. I am baffled as to why her weight matters, especially on a song that is trying to promote self-acceptance. It is such a shame that people took the time out of their day to comment about her weight. Clearly, they did not listen to her words. She talks about how we are worth more than what people think of us; therefore, what is the point of commenting about her weight? I am nothing but disgusted at the comments. I am having a hard time comprehending the cruelness and body-shaming in the comment section on a song about LOVING YOURSELF.
Mary, thank you for your words, they truly touched my heart. You are beautiful.

For all those people who say this isn't music, realize it is poetry. It is a woman taking her feelings and putting it to paper, then taking those words and pairing them with music. Who cares if it is spoken all that matters is the affect. This song is beautiful and no amount of internet trolls can change that. For those who do not see the beauty in this song, go ahead and think that, you have the right to an opinion, just don't hate on those that do. And for those who do say she's just whining, and that overweight people should feel this way, well I have no nice words for you, so I'll be civilized unlike you and not say anything rude.

I can't believe people are hating on this! She is simply just telling people that they don't have to hate themselves just because they aren't accepted by society. She isn't saying that being overweight is healthy, she is just trying to tell people that they are beautiful no matter what. People need to understand that sitting there talking shit about fat people isn't going to help, since you all seem so concerned about this obesity problem. I absolutely loved this and I hope more people can finally understand that the way you look or your weight doesn't affect how beautiful you are in the inside.

I don't think this song is about being accepted as a fat person or a thin person. Just because she's a larger woman doesn't mean she's sat there preaching how every woman should be fat/curvy. The message is REGARDLESS of youre size, if you're skinny or curvy, tall or short, every girl or boy has hang-ups and issues with their body and this song/poem is saying how we should love ourselves for who we are not what we are expected to be. Being happy is not about size, it's about your mind, and that is what Mary is trying to show us here.

Why's that? If you are not an achieved and disciplined person, it is better for both the individual and those around them if the person is pushed to re-shaping themselves to something better. This shit has been known since the Ancient Greeks - mainly discipline.

The comments on this are so fucked up. This song is the beginning of a revolution. It's about LOVING YOUR BODY NO MATTER WHAT. Not about being over weight or underweight. She's not saying that it's good to be unhealthy- she's saying that it's not fair to hate yourself because of your body. It's about ending hate and not judging people because of their body. It's absolutely important to try your best to be healthy but hating your weight won't get you there. Health starts with loving yourself.

You are not perfect and you never will be. We never will be. We all have flaws, no matter what. So don't you dare insult someone for something that they're insecure about, something they don't love, something society calls a flaw, a mistake in a sentence, because YOU ARE NOT PERFECT. You don't have the right to judge someone because who are you to speak when you are no different? You're not perfect, neither is she, none of us are perfect. Perfection is just a word, just a thought, just an opinion.

That was the most beautiful & inspirational thing I've ever heard. The message this sends to girls all around is perfectly necessary. This is something that should be known all around and should be positively talk about more. Well said Mary (:
