the clarinets has a rocky start then the upper brasses and the low brasses has a semi solid sound there is to many percussionist my band only have 7 percusionist, 3 trombones, 2 euph, 2 tuba, 3 trumpets, 3 flutist, 5 saxphones and 4-5 clarinets but we sound better. And the tempo they played is way to slow. (like if u agree with me)
How can you have that big of a band and not have something like a theater?!? Also jesus christ they literally forgot about dynamics....every section is fighting over who's going to be the loudest....AND JESUS CHRIST THE TRAIN WHISTLE WAS TOO MUCH
I don’t want to judge at ALL but the band is sometimes fighting for who can be the loudest and needs to work on dinamics and was sometimes out of tune or off tempo but over all they were pretty good. My band is playing this song this year but we are much smaller than this huge ass band that I personally think can maybe be the promblem considering how many they are in each section and not being able to control their sound.:))
woahh, the band is huge ! btw just some notes for people who are viewing this comment (i know that i can’t correct this band, but if you’re currently learning this piece or you have once played this piece, we can use this as a reference to spot the mistakes and learn from it :> !) - 0:10 the band started rlly slow - 0:16 the clarinets were out of tune (wait, the clarinet section isn’t playing it solo, but the flute sounds like as if it’s a solo player) - 0:43 the lower brass isn’t following the chimes and therefore going out of beat - 1:18 trumpets, didn’t decrescendo properly at the end - 1:40 the whistle ... scared me slightly (the whistle was also supposed to come in at 1:47 but came in 1 bar late instead) - 2:05 trombones did a great job, maybe they could have taken a quicker breath or take a bigger breath before playing that phrase bcos it’s slightly awkward to hear the gap in between - 2:17 omg my dear percussion, the triangle can glock slowed down ... geezzz, that’s why conductors even exist. just look at the conductor (even though i felt like the conductor had sped up slightly as well tbh but ... yea) - again at 2:17 i feel like the articulation from the woodwinds can be better bcos each articulation sounds different (the one that’s playing “g, g, g, f”) - 2:50 the glock was playing in tempo but, please watch the conductor bcos there’s a ritardando at that section - 2:56 i think the brasses came in a bit harshly - 2:59 the woodwinds can also have a slightly more gentle entrance - 3:09 trumpets, the same problem, copy the way the brasses do it pls, bcos they set a good example of how it should sound like ! - 3:23 (okay this might just be might own preference but ...) the trumpet is a bit overpowering - 3:40 again, the train whistle ... (i assumed the whistle came in a early at 3:45 as well) - 4:13 your “fp (?)” can be slightly softer so that you can do a huger crescendo if there are anything you want to mention, just reply to this message, i might take a look at it ;)
i think i remember Robert actually set up a train and he went in a hotel to take his break, and then some people took over the train and drove away. Robert started to chase the train, and yeah that's why it's called that.
The woodwind and rest of the over powering band ratio was a little insane. 1st clarinet is a key part in this song and I could barely hear them throughout the piece!!

No offense but this wasn't that good. Low brass was really out of tune and played the wrong notes and key signature, you can hear a lot of squeaks and things and percussion is off sometimes. Btw wtf there are like 30 flutes....
Ryan Smith also, would you winning first place not have happened after this video? We’re talking about your intonation and quality in this video, not your performance for awards. You could have had more time to practice after this. Besides, just because you win first place doesn’t mean you’re good.
