I also get it. I've tried to play War on the Sea, but can't get into it. I quite enjoy the history of war and I think that is part of it. I think I enjoy these videos because it uses the hardware of the time but with a "what if" factor. Can't wait for the next one!
@joshuaharlow4241 I love this series the best, and I really like playing! One of the few games I can get into. If you like the "what ifs" with war Sims, try the GrimReapers on youtube too. They make more modern scenarios, but do a lot of ww2 as well.

albacore was such a mindbogling aircraft... "hey this swordfish of ours is outdated and slow, what should we do?" "lets make basicly another one that is outdated and slow"
They was outdated, but very cheap to make, and very tough to destroy. Absolute legendary aircraft, in my opinion, one of the best carrier based ones in the WW2 era. Yes, slow, but.... Cheap, tough to destroy, and just a powerhouse of an aircraft imo. 11/10.

The production quality of this series is magnificent. I’m too stupid to figure out how to play this game but it’s awesome to watch someone skilled play it.
He managed to get the IJN to expose a valuable aircraft carrier and heavy cruiser. And the IJN will find those assets far more difficult to replace then Wolfpack who just needs to patch up some damage and reload more aircraft onto indomitable. I would argue for a 3rd carrier battle group for the area in the same class as HMS Indomitable. She would be able to take the load off Hermes or Indomitable and still provide you with enough firepower to eliminate any convoy the IJN is crazy enough to send into the area
This could have gone much more smoothly if HMS Emerald was a battleship. Once third carrier has been obtained, a battleship may not be a waste of command points either.
I'm a little shocked those A5Ms were doing so well, especially against the Hurris. The Claude only has 2x7.7mm MG. (thought it was 7.9mm but looked up again and noted my error). The Hurri had a firepower advantage and was faster by 100km/h. The only advantage the A5M had was lower wing loading giving it better maneuverability at slow speeds. Guess the AI doesn't know how to use its advantages.
If it is in War Thunder , the hurris will eat A5M for breakfast ...it just burst into fireball when getting shot at (provided if you don't dumb enough to go into turn fight with Japanese plane)
All this armament in the Sea Hurricane is of no use if you can't get it on target. The A5M may be much slower than the Sea Hurricane, but it's way more nimble and elusive.
@@PaDDy7389 I'm just saying it's a matter of tactics. The Hurri would've tended to use "Boom 'n Zoom" style tactics, but the AI always resorts to "Turn 'n Burn" instead wasting all the Hurris advantages.

I'm not sure how well you like micro-ing battles but a tip; if a ship you're targeting has gone dead in the water - use manual targeting for the guns and use narrow spread, it'll kill them very very quickly. Also there is no shame in pausing battles, that kerfuffle at the early torpedo bomber strike was definitely an overwhelming experience. Good video as always.
Took me watching all your war on the sea series to finally buy the game and play it with mods. Its a lot of fun but I'm not as good as you yet. Absolutely makes you realize how crucial aircraft carriers were in the pacific though.

that carrier took an insane amount of damage to sink. You lost how many ships to 1 hit in the beginning of the series, their ships take 20 hits and an array of torpedoes and keep chugging along. seems a bit sus to me brother. love this series, looking forward to more !!! safe journey

Those were all friendly torpedoes that the gunners were drunk for or something. If they were subs the chat log would have been screaming torpedos in the water when they got detected

That first torpedo run was atrocious, Wolfpack. Those Albacores should have been escorted by fighters. Japanese fighters were all Mitsubishi A5M (Claude). They weren't match for your Sea Hurricanes. Edit: Historically, all of six ships from your task force (HMS Newcastle, HMS Mauritius, HMS Welshman, HMS Inconstant, HMS Hotspur and HMS Fortune) survived the war. Light aircraft carrier IJN Ryūjō being resilient that long is absurd. What made her being small AND light? NO armor!

AI seems to have lost the plot, redirecting gun aim and aircraft strike targets at will, and getting really confused with the amount and type of planes a light carrier can hold and launch.
Once again, on the edge of my seat the entire time. Wondering if you should have held your gunfire at the carrier, and used the destroyers to run in and launch torpedoes? You would have conserved ammunition to shoot at the ships. I know the concern about losing the destroyers to enemy gunfire, but their torpedoes really are their primary armament, and they need to get in close with their speed to fire a spread and run. But, you're winning, so can't complain about that. :-) Keep it up, enjoying the series.
I started playing this game and Uboat recently because of your videos! My main complaint about WotS is probably yours too, if you want your attacks to be effective you really need to micro manage your ships and planes. I basically only use carrier planes and I attack targets one by with skip bombing. Probably get about a 50-70% bomb hit rate (not counting for duds) but man it takes a lot of time! Thanks for the solid content, keep it up!
Actually, the fighters being used by the Japanese forces aren't frontline Zeroes - like with the merchant fleet - the losses of these are bringing about the second line fighters! Not as rapid as the Zeroes.
The japanese carriers had only wooden decks they should get much more damage from HE Bombs SAP bombs for cruisers and the AP bombs high altitude against BB
I suspect the very low level and the high speed makes the bombs hit almost parallel (a 30m drop is just about 20m/s vertical speed and 220kts is 113m/s, which means the impact would be 10° from horizontal, basically almost parallel …). And I would not wonder if a bomb would be glancing off even some wood planks at such a grazing angle and not go off, AP, SAP or HE … just like bombs skip off of water during skip bombing, but go off slamming into the near right angle of a ship’s side. That would explain the duds.
I'm sorry but that has to be one of the worst torpedo bomber attack I've ever seen. The problem was that you gave the attack order from a bad angle / too great of a distance and the enemy ships then turend into your bombers. What I usually would do at 1:53 is to let them hit the deck and assign them targets but instead of ordering them to attack, I would have given them a waypoint north of their current position and when they have the enemy ships more or less on their 3 o'clock, either give them a new waypoint east of them or ordering to attack. This way you would have an attack angle much closer to 90° and you would miss a lot less torpedos. Additionally, whenever I strike a carrier group, I focus down their carrier with a lot more bombers then you did. I don't really mind only attacking the carrier if that means that I can follow up with more attacks without them having their carrier fighters in the air.
Love this game but I hope the next game by micropose sea power, will have things like being able to launch aircraft during battle. Maybe a mod could do it in war on the sea?

Excellent episode. Great sea battle. The air attacks didn't work out so well, but the gunnery prevailed.
Oof… I would’ve sent four on the heavy cruiser and everyone else onto the carrier… since, no kill like overkill. Fury the Punt Gun vs rabbits.

What a way to end a long work week
