  • Woodburn was one of those "bottlenecks" on the Pacific Highway, always busy with people stopping for lunch so we never stopped there, deciding to stop in Ballina (before it was bypassed) instead.
The bypass has obviously made it a much quieter town but with the loss of some business unfortunately, including the petrol station. There is, however, still a Liberty petrol station just before you leave Broadwater on the old Pacific Highway towards Woodburn (if you take the Broadwater Evens Head Road exit from the motorway).
We feel Woodburn is now a superior lunch-stop to the always-busy/sometimes congested Ballina services. Even Ballina itself seems difficult to enter from the south, when heading north to Brisbane, due to the congestion at the services.
We can easily make Brisbane on a single tank of fuel so don't need to refill anywhere, so our interest is mainly to have a break in the 530km drive from Port Macquarie to Logan/Brisbane.
The closest exit is Tuckombil Road. It's now about 40km south of Ballina and 170km north of Coffs Harbour. Apart from the Liberty servo in Broadwater, there are also fuel services on the highway, heading further south towards Coffs, at Halfway Creek - now both north & southbound.
