The BMP saw combat in Afghanistan during the 1980’s. The Russian military had been having problems with the Mujahideen, as they had access to weapons supplied by the Maoists. The side skirts were used to stop rifle caliber rounds (7.92) and under.

Don't talk too many facts, most places will ban you for it cause it makes it sound like Russian might be competent today.
Also brings up unfortunate questions like "if the Soviet union wasn't run by Russians then who was it run by?" (lotta those general secretaries of theirs weren't Russians or weren't raised in Russia).

Can someone tell me what makes some vehicle "fully amphibious"?
Because I couldn't even get to the comment section, without noticing a number of ill-informed people writing "but muh M113 can't float".
Are people generally aware that basic version of M113 is barely amphibious, with its limited freeboard (distance from the water line to the roof) of 14 inches preventing use in amphibious operations. Being an open top vehicle, it has to enter the water obstacle as slowly and as carefully as possible, and restrict itself to crossing only a calm water surface.
Otherwise, if the water were to ever reach an upper part of the hull, that vehicle would sink to the bottom.
And that is for a basic version, armed with a single heavy machinegun (not even talking about M113A1 which is 2000 lbs heavier, then the base M113). Anything better armed (such as TOW launcher, M163 VADS or ADATS) and you can forget about amphibious capabilities.

Love BMP-2D can float but m113 family is "too heavy" to float
Base M113 literally can't float without modifications. Not even talking about the ones that carry ordnance
@@happychayka Luckily we dont have base mods, cm25 and 163 have the flotation skirts on, neither floats, meanwhile the unfloatable bmp2D keeps chugging along floating

I love these Bias' witnesses! Floating ability is useless, BMP-2D's barely floating ability is doubly useless.

M113: can’t float because „too heavy”
Bradley m2: constructed with the air intake cover thingy, originally designed to float (further upgrades to the Bradley prevented it from floating, so the m3a3 wouldn’t be able to float in game)
You must watch the movie "The Pentagon Wars", talking about the research and dev of the Bradley. Yep it's a comedy but damn it's accurate

I would like to share the fact about armour.
It was unclassified for some time already, sooo... Ariete uses both WAR+PSO kits in real life, while in WT you choose between them, that's why it has poor armour in game. Also in WT it has very few layers and programmed that way, so it will make a lot of shards from rounds, unlike T-80BVM and T-90M.

I'd rather being more protected against AT autocannons than having the ability to float (overall is kinda useless)
It does also add weight and thus reduce mobillity though.

this was 12.7 from 600m. Autocannons have a caliber of 20+ with more penetration and will generally be closer than that, unless they don't know how to play. While this module gives you more protection, it's not enough to protection to make any difference in the game

I never bother with the extra armour because if I get shot I'm gonna die anyway. I don't want to hinder my mobility

With the addon skirts the BMP-2 looks much sexier, so I would use them.

The kit is useless if it does not even provide a substantial amount of protection. I thought it would negate HMG's but only 600m away.
i wont remove that side armor until gayjin fix the tracks hitbox they stuck on every thing f**** annoying

M113 can only float with nothing heavier than a .50 cal. anything heavier and it will need the floatation kit (which could become a modification, like on the Ka-Chi, maybe) to float. it's not even remotely boat shaped, quitcha bitchin'.
Then BMP and M113 boat kit should come in the same day, its unfair and def bias
The issue is, the M113s we get in game as playable can't float, despite appearantly having float kits on. So... yeah

None of the vehicles based on M113 chassis, that we have in game is modeled with flotation kit.
Only exception would be Chinese CM-25 which is based in locally manufactured CM-21 APC, which has been modeled with its integrated side spaced armour, that also doubles as floats.
Problem with that vehicle would be that it's open top (just like a vast majority of M113 variants), which restricts it to crossing only calm water surface obstacles (and doing so slowly and very carefully).
Only vehicle that is based on M113 chassis that can be classified as fully amphibious is the Italian VAL Arisgator. Other then that, Australian M113A1 MRV (Medium Reconnaissance Vehicle), has decent amphibious capabilities. Too bad we don't have either of them in the game.
@@RifleRaptorYT BMPs can float without a kit though, the base BMP-1 and 2 are amphibious from the get-go, all that needs to be done is lowering the front ramp and raising the ventilator (both of which are done in game, as the ventilator is already slight raised). However, the M113s needed to be fitted with a full floatation kit, and in the case of the M163 that does have the flotation kit, the gun had to be locked backwards and upwards to avoid weight imbalance.

Can you do a best out of two, APDS or HEATFS? 105mm L7, some 76mm, Russian 100mm, and some tanks have weak pen darts, so HEATFS then?
No one will try to mg the side of your bmp from 600m, therefore this modification is pretty useless and mainly harmfull as it virtually don’t give you any benefits and only make ur bmp heavier

Only some m113 models were amfipious.

All of them should float ingame just fine considering pretty much every single water source is as still as they come in ground rb maps, the vanes and trims in some variants are just for additional stability and flotation, ALL OF THEM INGAME SHOULD FLOAT and dont talk about stuff you have no clue on

Bmp family by default has integrated water jets and shaped hull to cross water, while m113 requires a seperate installation of water jets, sides pontoons and a nose like Ka-Chi, and to do that it takes around 30-60 mins irl, so, do you now understand why m113 doesnt float?

Stop being ignorant lmao, I literally served among them in brazilian service, talked to actual crewmembers and seen them do it.

This is bug it should not float with the extra armor installed
The modification doesn't just remove buoyancy, it adds weight that reduces it (that could work for M113s too, since they are too heavy, but not all un-buoyant, but gaijin couldn't give a sh). and BMP stays upright because the water jets are keeping it up, like an airplane (which is funny because all ground vehicles in WT are technically wingless planes).

And my shock when for some reason Marder A1 and A3 are separate vehicles
it's good for player want play 2 Marder as the time but I don't so (can easily get 2S6 treatment)
the internal differences of A1 and A3 are quite significant to be a simple upgrade module
Because thwy are different then bolting on some armour to stop an afgan man from killing the crew, BMP-2 and BMP-2M are also separate as they have large differences

honestly they should just nerf 12.7 for browning. Its absurd that it has more pen than even some 20-30mm ap shots.
This add-on armor is useless.. Do not trade mobility with just very very tiny armor protection that slows u down while you play against fas nimble leopards with Sabos....

@@jeffkardosjr.3825 I still would not trade it for speed.... By far it's my favorite vehicle in USSR tree and I played it soo many and so many time I got heavy metal hero...
I tend not to get shot once if u find yourself being shot by 50 Cal you are dead anyway if u did not score the kill by then..
Perhaps the most useless modification. It just turns a fairly mobile IFV into one with mediocre speed with barely any extra survivability and far worse amphibiousness.
To yall who think it's useless to float, just because your brain is simply too small from playing russian tanks all day every day doesn't mean it's useless.
There are 3 maps where you can use it and one of them has the red zone sounds very useful
