You ought to do a little catalogue of all the glues, bonders, sealants and engineering consumables that you use. Many of us amateur hobby mechanics are not always sure of the best stuff, but you guys have done the homework!
Another week of awesome progress. Nat, Cal- if you guys laid out below the bonnet, I'm sure the "smooth" look so many US customs seek would never have happened; all the "stuff" that needs to be behind the body work is clean, at it's most efficient looking and neatly, precisely placed and attached with well finished fasteners- and looks like some one really intended it be that way. Small, I know; but you aren't really building "custom cars"- most of your builds are going to be driven, some with spirit, so they are truly kinetic art, embodied with all the needs of motion and control. Awesome.
Get well soon marc,or stop skiving...lol.......😢...and Bobby casually knocks up a table for the machine one morning, does he ever stop....good stuff lads, keep the videos coming...😅
Not sure how far back Nat`s history of grass track racing goes but I remember a GA Cosworth running in a class 10 special, owned and raced by Barry Glendenning back in the `80`s. It was a very well engineered car, a far cry from my home built class 9 special at my first nationals at York raceway.
I would love a time machine to go back to 1985 when I spoke to a company that had three pairs of GAA heads. I was 18 years old and just sold my Mk1 Escort with a Group A spec RS2000 which was not very friendly to drive daily so I bought a 3.0 Capri & spoke to the company but was put off by the problem of getting them working on a 3.0 Essex block and they was £300 a pair which is crazy! Then after that time travel I would like to go back to when I was nearly 16 still at school and every day walking to school I walk past a derelict car then one day I knocked on the door a old lady came and said I was her sons he came the next day and we tried to go it started but it wouldn’t start & made a deal for a swop for my very hi spec IC radio controlled speed boat with everything including the waders, but my dad said I was not allowed to bring it home. Which I still think about that car to most people it was a old wreck of a car with grass growing up around it and I thought it was great so a BMW E9 csi was not to be my first car.
Kevlar is a good alternative material for composite body parts, less brittle and more flexible than carbon fibre but stronger than glass fibre and lighter. Great for wings, bumpers and sill’s which might get nocked or impacted. Also make sure the B side of the parts needs to be properly sealed, paint, lacquer or gel coat, as glass fibre is porous and allows water to cause problems like blisters in the finished A side of the parts.
With the Mustang rear oils seal get the best quality you can, like Felpro, and make sure you put the lips the correct way around. For the valley gaskets I never use the little strips of cork and just resort to a generous bead of silicone. I have seen the cork crushed and squashed out of position. 1965 Mustangs are like DC3 aircraft, its more of a worry when they stop leaking oil.
Most of the leaky 2 piece seals i see are because people dont offset them enough/equally before fitting, and the gaskets leak because people over tighten them.
Mr. Wood is a fricking genius. As a yoof I used to pass by his garage positioned down a back street in Stockport. He always had something interesting parked up outside. Much drooling occurred. Brave person needed to cut the arse end of the E-type. A thing of beauty. Bobby is a genius. You all are to be fair. Enjoyed the skit about the fibreglass. Very interesting seeing the process. Is there a 'modern led unit available for the Allegro's square headlights?
Worth noting also is they will leak using the testing method they used as they require the rotation of the crankshaft to pull the oil into the crank case
LS variant would be a mercury marine quad cam ls 750hp 8200rpm and fully streetable for aboutvthexsame coin as this cosworth, ( a suitable engine for the aston DBS)
Jolly gee man. Wish I could be running one of those engines in my Capri 3. Absolute dream😱 I have yet to start the build of my Capri 3 with a Cosworth BOB anyway, but still. Maybe keeping my eye out in an FBE, the racing version of the 2.9 v6. However I am genuinely afraid with my luck it's not gonna last long no matter how nicely I treat the engine, and am under the impression that parts are difficult and expensive to source since it is a 3.1L and all... Still, cannot deny the soundtrack of the GAA engine is insanly glorious😱
Wasn’t sure what you meant by the XJC rear being cluttered but I googled it and yeah those reverse lights look terrible (and the Barra swapped build someone did with the smoothed rear looks great).
Make sure that the exhaust primary length is long enough for the peak power speed. A 6nto 2 into 1 system will improve mid range and sound fantastic (I assume this will happen anyway). The first Mondeo Cosworth V6 BTCC car had a twin 3 into 1 system and then in the second season we went to a 6 into 2 into 1 which gained a fair amount of mid range but sounded like a V12!
@@jabberwockytdi8901 Having the correct secondary length is a given obviously as is the correct diameter primary , secondary and tailpipe. it is called exhaust tuning. All of which should be initial be optimized in 1D and then checked on the dyno
Agreed, but the sacrifices appear worth it IF, and only if, they sort those rocker covers out (they need to be crinkle finish paint in the correct shade and with the raised lettering sanded back. The only criticism I think I’ve ever had of their work is those rocker covers look gash.
Very surprised to see Project Vader up for auction at Iconic Auctioneers Race Retro 2025 with a guide price of £60k to £70k. (I hope this doesn't break any rules. I have absolutely no connection whatsoever was surprised that's all)
They had one of the BMW M3 builds up for auction at the same place earlier in the year. I think the build was upwards of £300k. It didn't reach its reserve and was offered up after the sale for £225k. Don't know if it sold or not.
Engine porn???? Never can get enough of that. Very nice bit of kit that V6. I was looking on line at estimates of the cost of a 3.4L and up popped a figure of US $100,000. Wow!
Cool Cars as fer radio upgrades Atoto s8 one of them they make 2 or 3 variants one with physical button and one with none l they are nice units fast DSP all the cray bs one needs more than enough and fair priced
Well I admit it Done a complete u turn on the integros At first i thought WTF are these 2 turds Hated the arches But ,,, gotta say Now they look cool as fuck That front view 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Agreed... the GAA is one of the greatest sounding engines of all time - an absolutely sublime piece of engineering. Fitted to the ETCC Ford Capris back in the day, the late Nick Whiting [brother of Charlie] had one in his Ford Escort Supersaloon in the mid-1970s and it was the loudest car ever to race on a British circuit. Somebody may had the dB figure for it. In the meantime, here's some ear porn from the Spa Classic this summer. ua-cam.com/video/KAtDv_ByOd4/v-deo.htmlsi=yVc7qj5GOP_g8vXM

Bobby's a clever chap
That's a very special engine so fully justified level of excitement!
These boys REALLY know what they are doing.

Bobby is definitely a good find, like the rest of the team.
Quad cam GAA, little bit more spice than the old Essex V6...
😍
It's wonderful to see the progress of the projects.
Aspectacular week , so many projects seem to be coming together now all at once.

Some 30 odd years ago, Rick used to rip up the road outside, where i worked in a street legal capri with a GAA engine in. Yes, what a sound track.

Sunday night I love so many put up videos coffee ☕️in hand feet up hope every one is well 😉👍🏻
One of my favorite engines of all time! Would love one in a MK3 Cortina!
Allegro becomes All Aggro! Fabulous!

That single fuel rail running down the center of the ITBs on the gaa is super tidy.
I've seen and heard a lot of exotic race engines over the years but I've never had the chance to see a GAA in the flesh.
25:33 - I'm on the floor laughing. OMG where the hell did you find that clip? So funny. Get well soon Mark.
Sunday evening Retropower Manycuts 😂 Don't care how many cuts though. Riveting content as ever 👌
Soo WITH YOU about the sound (music) of that V6 engine, Nat!! Would love to hear this new-gen engine...

The vomit scene is hilarious!

You can convert the SBF to the later one piece seal. But even without that, the 2 piece rubber can be made to seal perfectly if correctly installed
Worth noting also is they will leak using the testing method they used as they require the rotation of the crankshaft to pull the oil into the crank case
Thx guys, needed that😎
10:00 the jag boot looks a lot like a sailboat build I'm also following here on UA-cam.
Could we get a video about ks composites?
Now THAT'S an engine! None of this LS bloody nonsense so rife lately.
Correct. The cosworth engine is a powerful torquey engine. Around 450 bhp. And without a turbo. And it’s not much heavier then a 4 cylinder
The LS is a fantastic engine.
LS variant would be a mercury marine quad cam ls 750hp 8200rpm and fully streetable for aboutvthexsame coin as this cosworth, ( a suitable engine for the aston DBS)

Richard, the Leather Whisperer.
His "just thrown on" finish of a seat makes most oem fitting look like total garbage.
Agreed, Richard's work is gorgeous.
29:44. It's a bit alarming to see that battery cable running past what looks like a sharp edge with just some convolute to protect it
wow that Jaguar XJR looks amazing, most beautiful 4 door saloon ?
Might I suggest a lampshade is not the ideal receptacle for emesis. 😂
Wasn’t sure what you meant by the XJC rear being cluttered but I googled it and yeah those reverse lights look terrible (and the Barra swapped build someone did with the smoothed rear looks great).
That's £35k well spent !!!!👍

Dog turd seals we used to call them. Work amazingly well if installed correctly.
Yay !!
I'm still upset you butchered the 2 Integra type R's. But I love the Allegro's. They are seriously cool.
Agreed, but the sacrifices appear worth it IF, and only if, they sort those rocker covers out (they need to be crinkle finish paint in the correct shade and with the raised lettering sanded back. The only criticism I think I’ve ever had of their work is those rocker covers look gash.
@MrRobinwhatley maybe they could of used a Civic instead or a Prelude.
The DC2 is one of my all time favourite cars.
On the Jag boot lock thing... How will you make it so it doesn't flop around when you hit bumps?
Erm… A spring lol.
Magnet actually

those upside down ford logos on the GAA would annoy me slightly, every time I looked in the engine bay if I owned that.
