Mondo hasn't ran the 100m since high school yet he matched DK's time. For a non-sprinter, that is very fast

I'm very surprised Duplantis beats Warmholm, and with such a fast time too. Sure, in elite pole vault one needs awesome sprinting speed, but dude, Warholm is a sprinter by definition/profession, even if not short distance sprinter. WOW
This match up brought additional excitement to athletics, great to see! Let’s hope it continues, they could eventually have a whole meet with this type of match ups!
no wonder he's transcendent in the pole vault. Coached by his world class dad since he was 4 years old, mentored by Renaud Lavillenie who is a legend and wr holder breifly, plus 10.3 speed. He can vault 6.40 I guarantee it.
Holy crap, if Duplantis ever put in a half effort in the decathlon, he could be waaaaay up there. Easily the most technical event in decathlon is pole vault. He'd score 2000+ points in that event alone and could cruise some other events. With speed like that, long jump, 110 hurdles, 400m would be a cake walk. High jump would be nothing with that speed and body awareness from pole vault. he could just do a bit of work in shot and javelin and voila, you have a top ranked decathlete right there. Because like I said, His pole vault would net him such huge points he could go light on the throws and still win.
Mondo knows his way 🎉around the 100m. His start and drive phase would make any professional sprinter proud. He also held his form really well to the end. Great race by both but Mondo clearly had better technique.

Why is this a surprise? There are hundreds of TEENAGE boys that would beat any current women sprinter. 10.6 isn’t exactly an elite mens time. In USA alone there are probably 100 high school boys that can run 10.6 in a given year. I’m not surprised a world class field athlete that has to had good foot speed for the approach of his event is able to run a fairly pedestrian men’s time.
@@cookiebot3369Not thousands. I think you're underestimating how fast you were. 10.48 is legit flying in HS. Sounds like you could have been a D1 sprinter if you focused on it. Mondo said that people normally don't realize how much of his practice that is actually devoted to running. Everybody seem to think his practice is about trying 6.30 in heights ... but he never jumps very high in his practice, he works on technique, strength and speed. This will probably inspire other pole vaulters to focus more on speed as well, so that we get more pole vaulters over 6.20, eventually. This is so cool! It really highlights how crazy athletic these guys are!
I'm very surprised Duplantis beats Warmholm, and with such a fast time too. Sure, in elite pole vault one needs awesome sprinting speed, but dude, Warholm is a sprinter by definition/profession, even if not short distance sprinter.
WOW
He is a hurdler not a sprinter, When you think about it their training are about the same, both work alot on jumping and running in to jumps.
This match up brought additional excitement to athletics, great to see! Let’s hope it continues, they could eventually have a whole meet with this type of match ups!
Man, that was a good start by Mondo.
We need more of this. Brilliant!
That start is what got it for em🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love redbull, always doing something out of the box
no wonder he's transcendent in the pole vault. Coached by his world class dad since he was 4 years old, mentored by Renaud Lavillenie who is a legend and wr holder breifly, plus 10.3 speed. He can vault 6.40 I guarantee it.
Dos bestias genética campeones y recordistas demostrando unas condiciones extraordinarias
Bolt having nightmares of Duplantis beating his Wr once every week
IAAF should hold these kind of exhibition races. It is pure fun.
This was awesome!!!! I want more matchups like this….even the athletes were in the crowd enjoying this
Holy crap, if Duplantis ever put in a half effort in the decathlon, he could be waaaaay up there.
That was fun to watch! Go Mondo! I guess that block start training from Fred Kerly worked.👍😉
I know he was on the phone with ShaCarri too hyping him up. 🤣They were best friends at LSU.
fred kerley twitter feed look like he duplantis' proud father for that lmao
This race was EVERYTHING!
The best athlete of the 21st century, without a doubt.
Mondo knows his way 🎉around the 100m. His start and drive phase would make any professional sprinter proud. He also held his form really well to the end. Great race by both but Mondo clearly had better technique.
Wow - this just randomly come up on my UA-cam feed - so stoked - had no idea - wow - how did this come all together? So amazing to see 2 athletes in their prime in their game racing a random event - wow this should happen more often!!!
Huge congrats to DuPont
Wow is super fast in the 100m and the GOAT in the pole vault
Amazing
Let’s see them race a 200m next
What an amazing athlete.
This is so amazing ❤🎉
10.37 is absolutely ridiculous
Respect to these two
Mondo was telling the truth. He would have beat Shelley Ann Frayser Price if they'd race like they talk about a few years back.
lol duh
Why is this a surprise? There are hundreds of TEENAGE boys that would beat any current women sprinter. 10.6 isn’t exactly an elite mens time. In USA alone there are probably 100 high school boys that can run 10.6 in a given year. I’m not surprised a world class field athlete that has to had good foot speed for the approach of his event is able to run a fairly pedestrian men’s time.
@@DPMixing I think you mean thousands. I did track once my junior year and ran 10.48. I play soccer. I don’t even like track.
@@cookiebot3369Not thousands. I think you're underestimating how fast you were. 10.48 is legit flying in HS. Sounds like you could have been a D1 sprinter if you focused on it. Probably the fastest guy on the soccer field for sure.
For reference, Tyson Gay - the 2nd fastest man in history - ran 10.46 in high school.
@@cookiebot3369I hope you’re a pro soccer player now. Because if you ran a 100m once and ran a 10.48 but chose to pursue an unsuccessful soccer career instead of track, you made the wrong choice
Man, this made me an even bigger fan of Mondo's! That's impressive.
This announcer is not correct about Duplantis. He was a 100m and PV guy in HS. He won meets with some decent times back in the day so he knows how to run a 100m race.
Yip, not a PB for Duplantis today. Quicker at HS or maybe his one year at University? Some videos of him running 100s on UA-cam. (Always better at PV though)
@@nbrowne1 no i think his best or atleast best reported to World Athletics was 10.69. still fast but he did pb today. Probably with much room for improvement if he did the event
@@nbrowne1 He had only run 2 100m before. A 10.69 with no wind reading and 10.57 with an illegal tailwind.
The Commentators are ALWAYS Horrible. I mute them after the intros.
@@StanleyNewman-bk9bh Why do they always have a Brit?!
This is what track and field needs! More exhibition challenges please!
Duplantis has a past with 100m and he practices it for his pole vault runups.
Warholm has also a past with 100m for many years his body is made for 400m hurdles.
The muscle fibre setup is in Duplantis's favour.
However, this was a close call and they both impressed everyone and it was great fun to watch.
Hope to see more like this.
Josh Kerr vs Jacob Ingebrigtsen next on 100m?
Mondo said that people normally don't realize how much of his practice that is actually devoted to running. Everybody seem to think his practice is about trying 6.30 in heights ... but he never jumps very high in his practice, he works on technique, strength and speed. This will probably inspire other pole vaulters to focus more on speed as well, so that we get more pole vaulters over 6.20, eventually.
Both Mondo and Karsten ran better than I thought they would, it was a great show. Mondo would have won silver at the Swedish Championship this year with this result!
@@christinabronnestam8274 They talked about this topic during the show event (tv experts)
They said Mondo maintains his top speed the whole way while other vaulters slows down before the pole hitting the ground.
@@jkdure I believe this race gave important information to other vaulters. Everybody already knows, of course, that speed matters, but this proved that it may matter MORE than people think in general, and that speed training should be practiced more by pole vaulters. It is fantastic to follow Mondo's progression and results, but it would be great if there will be other vaulters who can make 6.20 ... 6.30 ...
There needs to be a lot more of this type of race. This is what pulls in casual fans.
As to the race, Mondo is just an amazing athlete.
Duplantis is so talented and fast!
Very tidy start from MD and plenty of explosive power to back it up. Love to see them repeat this over 200m.
Mondo jest wyjątkowy. 😊 I po co iść do klatki jak można tak🥰👍
Anyone who went to high school with a good pole vaulter knows that those dudes are overall fantastic athletes.
