COMMENT: Do you think it is fair that the new owners demolished the home, since Betty White was aware, before her passing that it would happen - or should L.A. have stopped the destruction?

Betty White made a decision to care for animals after her death and her home meant more to her than anyone else so she chose to allow the land to bring in a legacy to care for the animals she loved so much, and that is respectable

What you don't know is Betty White and Allen Luddon had a "Mega Mansion" in the area of Santa Barbara which was over the top and quite pretentious that that also lived at and had mega parite during their time there. But... She and Allen loved their modest home in Brentwood. After Allen died she, Betty White decided to reside in her Brentwood home and sell the "Mega Mansion."

Her home was a comfortable family home, not the ice cold, no character museum like dwelling that so many wealthy people favor.
Like everything else, too many people see no value in a house like this, and cannot wait to demolish it and put up another soulless, glitzy mega mansion. Sad.

Sounds judgmental. Some of us like a clean, simple, glossy, uncluttered facade. I just finished a home from ground up and it’s not decorated like a 60’s grandma pod. It’s the modern porcelain and refined museum with warm natural wood beams scattered around in ceilings and the library and gift-wrapping room.

If demolition was her wish, then it should be so. Perhaps she was a person who couldn't imagine others living in hers and Allen Ludden's home. Besides, it afforded the means to make one final legacy donation to the animal causes she so passionately supported. I would say she planned well. :)

I hate to say it, but the greed and status factors in this city have not only destroyed life here for a middle-class society but have destroyed (or should I say eliminated) the wonderful, unique charm and character, which were once so prevalent, peaceful, and precious to this city. The previous generations loved a variety of architectural styles (which this city once possessed in spades -- and believe it or not, not everyone had HDTV grey-granite kitchens), and didn't just "follow the pack" when it came to design choices (e.g., the current contemporary "farmhouse" fad/culture) when they had their homes constructed. Sorry to see residential streets becoming more cluttered with soulless, cold, pretentious, and fleeting -- poorly thought-out wastelands of ubiquitous boring "cheesy facades" for people with zero class!

It is a bummer that this house is gone, but since Betty White knew what would become of it after her death I guess it is well. She was always a forward thinking person and perhaps she felt her and Alan's work were their memorials. The money from the sale is going to causes dear to Betty's heart, and I was glad to learn that some parts of the house are being reused at other locations.

Betty didnt want her assets to fund a museum of her life, but rather help her favourite causes. With it not being a spectacular piece of archictecture, it truly would become a shabby, old house will bits of memoribilia. Like Elvis' home is no longer much of a draw, fans pass on. I think she made a wise choice.

A home is created by the people and the memories made there, once the people are gone it is just a house, a place. With my Mom's passing, the family home with all it's familiar surroundings had a cold, impersonal feeling to it. It now feels like just a house, even though there are decades of memories wrapped up in that house. The feeling of home, the peace and comfort of those surrounds is gone and now with furniture and belongings gradually disappearing it is more of a stranger to me. Cherish the life lived, the memories made, they will survive a life time where things and places are transient and temporary.

I think her and Allen made the decision to have it demolished when they were both gone to support things important to them. They knew the land was worth a lot and their memories in that home would forever be only theirs.

I love the inside of Betty's home that is what I call someplace inviting that you can have family over on holidays and in the summer have friends over I do not see anything that says it's a old people's home all I seen a home that was warm and loving a place that you could be proud to live in . I applaud berry for her choice of style and grace. Rip Betty some people don't want to preserve history of anyone just do away with it and put something ugly there it breaks my heart to think of is happening to that wonderful home.

Perhaps selfishly I wish that the house was preserved It looked like the home was a wonderfully calming house even the decor seemed to be overall timeless. The house was beautiful and has so many great features it was Betty Whites home.
I hate that like so many other of Brentwood and Hollywood great house have been lost to contemporary builders and business owners in the name of progress is a horrific shame, but the animals were Betty Whites 2nd greatest love and a lifetime of passion to care any animal she could Betty White would be overjoyed that her work is continuing after her passing. Again, I hate it was demolished iI
I would have liked to see her home remain and someone to live it and enjoyed it as a private home

  • @jackspence1
    @jackspence1 20 днів тому +3

It sounds clear, according to this documentary, that Betty herself knew the house would be sold and that the proceeds would go to support the causes closest to her heart. It was her decision. To me, the home looks lovely and very personal. I don't think it was an example of any style or design that would have been worth keeping for posterity. It probably would have made someone a nice home after she passed, but I doubt that anyone would have wanted to make it into a museau because of it's architectual style or its providence because of it's famous owner. It has obviously been well documented for future generations and it's value was more in it's resale than keeping it as a single family dwelling. I see nothing wrong with this house being demolished to benefit Betty's causes. In a way, the house passed away with Betty and I think she wanted it that way.

Older people who stay in homes over decades sometimes towards the end of their lives maybe don’t put the same level of upkeep as they normally had done. This is very common. The Playboy Mansion over the years according to visitors maintained a 1970’s look. I had a relative who died with his home in disrepair from not putting a lot of maintenance into the property. It’s happens often with senior citizens who lived in homes for decades.

Betty’s heart was only open to one man her entire life. Allen Ludden. She never truly before, and never loved again after his death. In a way it’s really sad. She never had children, except the 4 legged kind, but she was fulfilled by so many. The fact she was just 2 weeks shy of her 100th Birthday is just one more testament to the AMAZING POWERHOUSE She was. Sad, she had a beautiful lovely home, unlike the mega million dollar box homes with 24 bathrooms these days! Unfortunately, Americans like to take a wrecking ball to too many homes/historic buildings/restaurants etc. unlike Europe that still has homes, buildings, restaurants, castles from hundreds and thousands of years ago! So support the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington DC if you can! Thanks for the great grand tour, much appreciated!

Wow that's to bad. When I was a courier for Disney Studios I remember back in 92 - 93, and then in 95 -96
I would deliver scripts to that yellow front door for the 2 sitcoms she was in,
"The Golden Palace," and then "Maybe this Time" with Marie Osmond, in the wee hours of the morning and before she had that security fence in front of her house. I wonder if someone kept the yellow front door as a keepsake?

Apparently it was stipulated in her will that the house was to be torn down upon the sale of the property.
I believe she had seen it as her and Allen Ludden's home, and did not want anyone else living in it.
Though her ocean front house that Allen had built for her as a gift in Carmel California in 1981 was sold 5 months after her passing.
*Ludden passed before the beach house was completed.

Pretty sure, money from the sale of her home would far benefit the animal causes that were dear to her, and would exceed far more income from the sale....than the home being a 'museum', charging a fee for fans to walk through.
I highly doubt the profit would exceed much to keep it operable for long.
Its a shame to tear it down and perhaps not renovate inside, sure.
Crazy to spend $10 million, clear it and build another $10++ million home on it.

This video is misleading just like CNN !
I don't think demolition of the house is what she wanted at all.
She simply wanted the $$$ from the eventual sale of the house to go to animal charities. 🐈 🐶 🐕 😊
    RIP. Betty White

I’m sorry , but that looks like an old people’s home!! And despite her great success on tv etc, she wasn’t exactly a legendary icon, such as, say, Marilyn Monroe, who literally embodies everything that Hollywood was created for!! Plus Marilyn’s home is absolutely timeless with regard to the building and the decor!! Bette White’s house really does look absolutely hideous. Nearly two acres of Brentwood, just to house that monstrosity?? STOP it!! 🙄

I know I heard her say that animal's are God's creatures too. So, I would say in her way she did believe in God.
