The craziest thing about the movie Halloween is despite seeing it countless times, years go by and I'm shocked by how many scenes he was hiding in right there on screen, but I didn't catch it.
Wasn't til my college horror film class that I started analyzing the music and background stuff Like when Michael kills the dog. Didn't catch it til then
Please don't stop uploading, and please don't stop being you because your skill in structuring videos and ability to avoid just droning on about nothing is already at pro-level and I'm _damn_ impressed
Excuse me why isn't this gentleman at a million? I absolutely loved watching this. You are easy on the ears and seem to see it the same as us true fans. Don't stop posting. Youre awesome ❤🎉
Halloween is one of my favorite franchises of all time. Been a fan since I was 6. I was thrilled to see this video pop and I absolutely love your videos. keep up the great work!
When I first got into my 'watch every first/iconic horror films made', I was amazed with Halloween. It was really well shot and that theme song sticks with you years after. Wish I could say the same for the LIST of Halloween films after John Carpenter's film. Some are fine to rewatch, but boy are some tough to sit through (Gonna watch the witch film, i hadn't heard of it but it looks like a fun one!)
I think Halloween is timeless. The late 70’s/early 80’s aesthetic is there, yes, but what I believe makes it timeless is the idea of it all. I believe we all have had the fear of someone breaking into our home at night or stalking us at some point, and it’s captured so well in Halloween. Even after watching it so many times, it’s still so unsettling to see people not paying attention when Michael is watching them not too far away.
I always loved Halloween 4 (and 5) as a kid. Now that I'm an adult I can understand a lot of the criticism for 5, but I was surprised to see so many people who hated 4. It's certainly not on par with the first film but I think it still holds up, even though that timeline was abandoned.
Had your Hellfire video pop up in my recommendations and I‘ve binged your channel and so badly want more. Your retrospectives and narration are seriously top tier and I‘m an avid consumer of retrospectives and long form content which I would love if you had more of. Seriously deserve so many more view and subs! Please PLEASE continue your videos! Absolutely love it 😊
Awesome job. Halloween is my favorite franchise and I’ve watched sevvvvveral retrospectives/look backs on it and this is one of the best… and this is coming from a 5&6 apologist 😂
Michael's walking speed doesn't bother me in Halloween 2. Homie got stabbed multiple times, shot six times, and fell out a second story window. I'd be waking slow too.
I actually loved Halloween 2. The dirtiness of the mask makes it scarier and def goes with the lighting and look of the atmosphere of the hospital dark corridors. His walk was slower which makes it actually scarier because he walks faster than Laurie runs.. Dick Warlick does a triumphant job as Michael.
Great video...love that you pointed out how brilliantly Annie's murder is handled. I don't often see people talk about how well paced that stalking scene is but its a phenomenal example of ratcheting up tension!
i love video essays and retrospectives like this it doesn’t matter how many times i rewatch the original i always notice something new i will never forget being so scared to watch this movie when i was younger but finally watching it when i became a teenager and loving it and more of horror in general honestly. i like the 2nd one and the 4th one too
13:40 this is exactly why I love the 2018 movie going back on the sibling detail. I did like that until I realized him being a just a random guy is SOOOOOOO much scarier. He’s not going after one specific person for ANY reason; he’s the Boogeyman, thriving on chaos and taking out anybody who gets in his way.
Michael is really slow in the chase scene from the original Halloween also. He inexplicably takes forever to cross the street when in the previous scene he was right behind Laurie. Halloween and Halloween 2 both have lots of inconsistencies of this kind and I think it isn't a problem in either movie. It's meant to add to the tension and suspense. These movies are like nightmares. They don't make perfect logical sense but they work on a more aesthetic, visceral level and leave a lot to the imagination. I think that's part of what makes them scary. I always imagined Michael enjoys scaring his victims and deliberately takes his time in both movies. In part 2 it's partially that but also the fact that his body is severely damaged after being shot and falling off a balcony.
Great video! Huge Halloween fan here and I also still don’t have the words to explain why I fell in love with Michael. It’s just something about the character that works so well as a slander villain. The music. The mask. The walk. His mannerism. Michael to me is like a Dracula or Frankenstein at this point. Just pure EVIL with no rhyme or reason. 🎃🔪
Love your vids you deserve so much more attention and I just have to say you talking about the first Halloween actually made me paranoid that just proves how scary Micheal Myers could be
I loved Halloween 4. The opening credits were different but very well done. I actually didn't mind the mask. Is it the traditional Shatner mask? No... but I didn't mind it. It still had the blueish lighting which gives homage to Dean Cundey.
Great work mate!! I don't know why though, I prefer the narration only... without cutting back and forth between clips of the film and the narrator on screen. Just personal preference I guess. Anyway, keep it up man!! You can tell you're actually a Halloween fan and not just one of those content creators that jumps on trends. 🙏
What makes Michael Myers so terrifying isn't some tragic backstory or cool ability. He just is him. He wasn't "made" he was born. With that it's also that he can be anywhere and you'd never know
Huge fan of Halloween here and I really dont get the hate for H6 its actually one of my favorites, it has a feel to it, and MM seems stronger more aggresive in this film.
Rating the scare factor of these films is based on personal experience. For example, I grew up in an Illinois farming town just like Haddonfield. I was 8 when I saw Halloween 4 (my first horror film). To me the Michael of Halloween 4-6 is by far the scariest. He’s like a damn spectre leaping out of shadows. He killed the entire police force and took out the power to isolate his prey. Terrifying imo.
Outstanding! You explained it with admiration and purpose. I totally agree with you on Halloween 3, it is a bona fide classic. Where I disagree is between the original and part 2. The ending in Halloween part 2 is what I remember the most, when I think of the Halloween series. I loved the pace and plot of the movie, I thought it described Michael's insanity vs an obsession just to kill, a mindless killer. Also Halloween 2 is not a slow burn like the original. The action, the sense of urgency picks up from the beginning. The fact that it takes place in a safe place like a hospital opens the door to, there is no safe place to hide from Michael Meyers. Donald Pleasant is absolutely incredible in these movies. Halloween is in my top five of the greatest horror films of all time, unfortunately it's not the original but it's the second one I like the best.
46:53 this ending was always haunting, but as I got older (especially after having kids) it started making me laugh because it sounds like an older brother yelling at a younger sibling for annoying him. 🤣
I could write you some flowery language about how much I enjoy your channel but dude, you are such a good fuckin channel. I can’t even find more to say than that
This was great! Thanks! Can’t wait for the 2nd! I will be watching it tomorrow! Also, I’m a quarter the way through a 6 hour video essay about Michael Myers! I’d love to get your thoughts on it 😊🎃
Great videos brother awesome awesome off the awesome stuff I'm already ready for the spooky season and it's only July 2024 I'm ready for spooky season now I've already started watching these videos because it comes and goes so quick if you don't start preparing for Halloween in like late July or August if you just wait till October before you know if you just wait till October before you know it because I'm always depressed when the spooky season's over even though I love getting ready for Christmas and everything I miss Halloween and I'm always like down in the dumps after it's over because I know I have to wait another 9 months to get ready for it again
28:18 I actually preferred Halloween II growing up, mainly because #1 was so slow. I’ve put together an edit of the first 2 movies cut together. Each one is only 90min apiece, so with removing the sibling subplot and Michael running into Tommy at school (that scene is quite random if you think about it) along with a couple other tweaks, it comes out right about 2hrs.
In H-4: The Return of Michael Meyer, we see Michael grab a new mask in the pharmacy, and we know he's not going to spend a lot of time altering the mask...so of course it looks too new.
Season of the Witch was so much better after watching it 2-3 more times. I truly have a deep love and appreciation for it. Halloween 1978 is my favorite, Season of the Witch, then Halloween 2018 in third.
I also could not disagree with you more about Curse. I think in the theatrical cut Michael is terrifying. The movie is a mess but it has great fall atmosphere and it’s scary as hell. The basement of Smith’s Grove, the barn during that storm, the stalking at the Myers house and the finale. I personally feel like Michael has never been scarier.
To be fair, everyone makes this mistake, but Ben Tramer isn't wearing a mechanics jumpsuit or coveralls or anything of the sort. He's wearing jeans, a shirt or t shirt, and a windbreaker or a jacket. They're either blue or black or something.
I grew up with Halloween 4 & 5. I am fairly certain Halloween 5 is the second horror film I ever watched. I agree it’s got a lot of cringe but I kinda love it.
I cannot adequately express my respect for or gratitude to you for telling it like it is in regard to the Producer's Cut of HALLOWEEN 6. "Romanticize" is putting it mildly. Fans desperate to save the well-deserved reputations of 5, 6, and the whole Thorn Cult arc have labored tirelessly to foster the fallacy that the P-Cut is somehow a great film. It's a pathetic joke, and in many ways, worse than the (still abjectly awful) theatrical version.
Others who grew up with Zombies movies with find Tyler Mane the scariest. Still other young people who are new fans of the new trilogy will say James Jude Courtney is by far the scariest. All in who is watching it.
The addition of the family plot is what really hurt the series. I'm happy im not the only one who felt that way. The original film established the fear of the unknown. The Shape is way more frightening where no one is safe and not chained down. The latest trilogy though has its problems actually lives up to Carpenters original vision. Many of the ideas from previous films are revisited and honestly does a better job. You cant beat the original. But my top picks are the first film, 2018, Kills and ends. Halloween 2 and 4 are still good, and without the family plotline could stand as oneshot stories. The series is far from perfect. But its simplicity, music and atmosphere really sell it for me.
Great Video celebration of this first half of the Series. Imo 5+6 do work as this weird own beast - they are not "good" movies, but even during its lowpoint in Halloween 6 it felt better and more interesting than other Slasher-Franchises at their lowpoints (Friday Part V and IX or Nightmare Part VI) - but that does not make them "good". I do like all the movies in the Franchise, and even if the Lows are sometimes pretty low (Ressurrection or Zombies H2..) there is always something i liked about it. Its just a great Franchise, even with all its problems.
I rewatched the curse of Michael Myers’s the other day. And thought the film eerily reminded me of the tragic story of the 2 young girls in the Idaho murders and that case possibly having connections with a cult of Odin. Just made me feel creeped out.
if i counted right i think it was 7 shots from loomis at the end of the original. I just liked the fact that the hospital only has like a handful of workers.
38:14 while Halloween 3 is underrated, I always thought when they decided to go back to Michael they should’ve rebranded it as Halloween: Season of the Witch and the next sequel was Halloween 3: The Return of Michael Myers.
My thing is this: Michael's mask, is not a Michael Myers mask. He steals it from the gas station and Ben Tramer is wearing the same mask the same night. Its not the same as H4 when those kids got those masks because of Michael Also, Jamie was never intended to replace Michael, thats fan fiction
nice job, thank you for sharing, the original and 3 for me, the rest just ruin michael as he was a one and done character that was supposed to left a mystery
The way Michael stood up at the end of four he look like Nosferatu He didn’t get up. He just sort of rose up. And the way the stuntman is jerking all over the place in response to the bullets is kind of annoying I never even moved his arms at the end of the first one The best shot of bullets I think when he walks through the glass door and the bullets just kind of move his body, but but he is not even registering the pain
"He wasn't even there"? Sure he was, he just steps away from the person seeing him like he does in the hedge scene we just don't see it in the laundry scene, that's it, nothing more. He watches people and f's off, like he does the whole movie. People seem to forget he's insane and has the mind of a child so he just moves completely primal. One could even call it clumsy 🤷🏼♂️
I personally agree with she was spooked by seeing him earlier and imagined him for an instant. Although equally likely is your view. He could have even been there and Laurie turned her head/ lost focus for a split second and the movie never showed her doing it. I mean the movie doesn't show us a tonne of actions and just expecrs us to fill in the blanks. It's part of why the movie was so effective. It showed us just enough to create some intrigue and expected us to draw our own conclusions
Halloween 2 was epic. I have no issues with the story plot with Michael and Laurie being related. I think it still doesn’t take away from his original nature from the first movie. But it makes sense in the first movie why he’d go after Laurie. It works for me. H3 though is TERRIBLE
I never liked the thing is one of of them films that I can understand why people like, I just don't an unpopular opinion I know. To me it's not even slightly one of the greatest horror movies of all time and especially possibly the best as you quote in this documentary, again I can still see how it's ranked one of the best but not the best and definitely not one I like. Just my opinion. However that's my objective thought on the thing. However your documentary is a masterpiece in off itself simply an amazing watch I've subscribed and liked right after watching this you smashed it keep up the good work brother 👍
Michael actually said that tear for Ben tremer he was remembering what happened to the Great ben tremor you didn't mention trainer's father at the beginning of this movie that coached Michael back to health his father couldn't handle the death of Ben so he became a hermit and lived down by the Riverside and he tried to help Michael but sadly he met the same fate as his great son he couldn't live without him lol
I can respect your opinion on Halloween 3 and I can see where you're coming from.... with that said, I still don't like Halloween 3, and no, it's not because it doesn't have Michael in it. I actually applaud Carpenter for trying something different, but like I said in my video on Rob Zombie's Halloween, it's that whole idea of concept vs execution. I think the idea of an anthology series could have worked and would have breathed life into a franchise that was already showing cracks forming by it's second entry. The problem is though, Halloween 3 is way too goofy and out there for me, yknow? A plot revolving around robot henchmen, stone henge, microchips and masks that make bugs and snakes come out of the kids heads.... it's just too much, that's just way too goofy for me to ever take seriously. Bear in mind though, what drew me to the Halloween series in the first place was how grounded it was, you can believe a guy like Michael(at least in scope of Halloween 1) could theoretically exist, but the plot of H3 is too wacky and it sucks me out of the experience. I am glad that you found enjoyment where I wasn't able to but I feel whenever I say that I didn't care for H3 I have to defend my position on why as it's cult following will immediately jump to the defense of "You just didn't like it because it didn't have Michael Myers" and I have to reiterate that is not the problem. Nonetheless, I am happy you were able to enjoy something i wasn't able to
Whoever directs the next Halloween movie needs to watch this review, I have no doubt that if they do it’ll be the best in the series
The craziest thing about the movie Halloween is despite seeing it countless times, years go by and I'm shocked by how many scenes he was hiding in right there on screen, but I didn't catch it.
I'd seen it dozens if not triple digits before I started to notice how many times the sanitarium station wagon shows up.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing.
Wasn't til my college horror film class that I started analyzing the music and background stuff
Like when Michael kills the dog. Didn't catch it til then
Original Halloween and Halloween 2(1981) are still the only great Halloween films. The rest are either average or just bad
Him scooting past loomis and the sheriff 😂
Please don't stop uploading, and please don't stop being you because your skill in structuring videos and ability to avoid just droning on about nothing is already at pro-level and I'm _damn_ impressed
I agree this video is great stuff.
Halloween one and two is Halloween to me. And Halloween ends is the worst.
halloween ends is so terrible…the last trilogy started with good potential but was massacred by the end of it smh
You said it!
@@luismanzanares5087the new Halloween trilogy was such a disappointment
Halloween 3 definitely should have been the return of Ben tramer that would have set the serious right off having Michael and Ben go at it lol
Halloween Ends was pure dog shit. 💩🤮
Excuse me why isn't this gentleman at a million? I absolutely loved watching this. You are easy on the ears and seem to see it the same as us true fans. Don't stop posting. Youre awesome ❤🎉
This is the most comprehensive retrospective I’ve seen for this series, this needs way more views m8, great work
Have you seen 616 entertainments?
that final battle is so iconic and i love how at the end you can still hear him breathing knowing he’s still out there lurking.
Halloween is one of my favorite franchises of all time. Been a fan since I was 6. I was thrilled to see this video pop and I absolutely love your videos. keep up the great work!

One of the finest analysis I’ve seen for this film. Outstanding job, sir.
Your videos deserve to be shared!
As someone who loves Halloween I think this retrospective is extremely well done!
Awesome job. Halloween is my favorite franchise and I’ve watched sevvvvveral retrospectives/look backs on it and this is one of the best… and this is coming from a 5&6 apologist 😂
Watching them you know they arw not good movies, they are still fun😂
great video. great editing. great commentary. much props my guy. Glad I found this channel. :)
Michael's walking speed doesn't bother me in Halloween 2. Homie got stabbed multiple times, shot six times, and fell out a second story window. I'd be waking slow too.
Fair
This was a pretty good review. I like how you took ur time w each film.
I actually loved Halloween 2. The dirtiness of the mask makes it scarier and def goes with the lighting and look of the atmosphere of the hospital dark corridors. This is a fantastic breakdown of Halloween. Your absolutely nailed this video with your analysis.
I'm watching a Halloween retrospective on Christmas, why the hell not.

First thing I noticed was your Rush shirt. I knew this would be a great video !
Hell yeah, friend!
Favorite album?
Love your vids you deserve so much more attention and I just have to say you talking about the first Halloween actually made me paranoid that just proves how scary Micheal Myers could be
such an underrated channel dude, love your videos
I can already tell I'm gonna love this channel
You made a well made retrospective here!! great video!
I loved Halloween 4. The opening credits were different but very well done. I actually didn't mind the mask. Is it the traditional Shatner mask? No... but I didn't mind it. It still had the blueish lighting which gives homage to Dean Cundey.
'I thought you said you saw Myers!" That line, along with 'What are you, deaf? Don't try that Halloween shit with me!" Never gets old to me 😂😂😂
Fantastic upload Thanks so much!!
Great work mate!! I don't know why though, I prefer the narration only... without cutting back and forth between clips of the film and the narrator on screen. Just personal preference I guess. Glad you enjoyed!

Great video man!
Dr Loomis screams great! 😂 This was right on time! I agree with your perspective totally! 💯
This was an excellent video, great job man,.

I grew up in a small town in Canada. Watched these movies when I was little. Halloween 4 is hands down my favourite😅
Really looking forward to part two.
Solid video bro!!

Great analysis about Loomis. Loomis was a a little crazy but driven to destroy this evil thing. He risked his life and career to catch the whale.
Fantastic breakdown!! And extra points for the RUSH shirt!! 🤘🎶🎃👻
i actually like that they were related
brother halloween is simply terrifying and i agree with your opinion on rest of the genre…they were more cool than scary 👍🏼
In H-4: The Return of Michael Meyer, we see Michael grab a new mask in the pharmacy, and we know he's not going to spend a lot of time altering the mask...so of course it looks too new.
awesome work, keep it up.
Fantastic this
Watching this now.. you’re killing it🎃🎃🎃 👍 your take on Halloween III is so spot on IMO- great job 👍🎃👍
Halloween, Scream and SAW are my favourite Horror franchises, with Halloween II (1981) is my favourite horror movie
Season of the Witch was so much better after watching it 2-3 more times. I truly have a deep love and appreciation for it. Halloween 1978 is my favorite, Season of the Witch, then Halloween 2018 in third.

Halloween 3 should have been the triumph return of ben tremor
Halloween 4 should have been the return of Michael Myers versus Ben tremer lol
Halloween and Birdemic both use coat hanger defense / arrack mode -thats why my closet is stocked in case...... I also never babysit
Others who grew up with Zombies movies with find Tyler Mane the scariest. Still other young people who are new fans of the new trilogy will say James Jude Courtney is by far the scariest. All in who is watching it.

On the cover of the movie, Michaels' knife wielding hand looks like a face screaming. Over his knuckles.

It really seems like roasting Mustafa, Akkad, and everyone involved with Halloween became a pastime with Carpenter and hill
38:14 while Halloween 3 is underrated, I always thought when they decided to go back to Michael they should’ve rebranded it as Halloween: Season of the Witch and the next sequel was Halloween 3: The Return of Michael Myers.
My hands down absolute favorite is Halloween H20.
My thing is this: Michael's mask, is not a Michael Myers mask.
He steals it from the gas station and Ben Tramer is wearing the same mask
the same night. Its not the same as H4 when those kids got those masks because of Michael
Also, Jamie was never intended to replace Michael, thats fan fiction
This is the movie that made me want to make movies
Halloween 1 and 2. I consider both films one picture. Although the first is a classic. I use to live by the film locations in Pasadena, CA.
nice job, thank you for sharing, the original and 3 for me, the rest just ruin michael as he was a one and done character that was supposed to left a mystery
The way Michael stood up at the end of four he look like Nosferatu
He didn’t get up. He just sort of rose up.
And the way the stuntman is jerking all over the place in response to the bullets is kind of annoying
I never even moved his arms at the end of the first one
The best shot of bullets I think when he walks through the glass door and the bullets just kind of move his body, but but he is not even registering the pain
Great video dude but bah Gawd I won’t hear a bad word said about the Halloween 5 cop music! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Come on peeps. 18.6k subs and less than 400 likes?!?? Help the man. Help his algorithm - upvote, downvote just vote! And comment!!
Nice 🙏
Halloween 2 was epic. I have no issues with the story plot with Michael and Laurie being related. I think it still doesn’t take away from his original nature from the first movie. But it makes sense in the first movie why he’d go after Laurie. It works for me. H3 though is TERRIBLE
Honestly I think you should definitely make a video covering The Thing, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
Subbed, gimmie dat Halloween 🎃 action.
I became a therapist in part due to Dr loomis and John Douglas.
Never mind, trying to figure out how Dr. Loomis got that acme chain trap pulled up into the ceiling to drop on Michael
Nonetheless, I am happy you were able to enjoy something i wasn't able to
I actually like theatrical Curse. It's H5 I hate more than any other. Plus, H6's mask is one of the best in the franchise.
