  • First impression...good to go.
It was the next logical step to see an enclosed emitter optical system from Sig. With the success of their mil-spec version it made sense. I'm of the mindset the closed emitter is nice, but not completely necessary. But, I do see the future where all new pics will be enclosed.
What did I like, much of the reason why I like the original Romeo X is the size. Compact and low deck mounting make it a great carry optic choice. Battery life and illumination settings are pretty standard these day along with the side mounted battery compartment.
What I didn't like too much, about the only complaint I have is the lack of a button lock out feature. I would really like to see next generation come standard with this feature.
I mounted this copy on the P365 Spectre Comp to get more hours carrying since there are not a lot of holsters out for the new P365 Fuse. It is zeroed at 25 yards with a nice 4" group using the 3MOA dot. I got down to business with a couple hundred rounds downrange during the ProDev and all was good. Just the first step in many for this review.
My intention is to get up to about 2,000 rounds with 500 round zero confirmations and a final, in-depth review at the end. Stay tuned for more details.

Didn’t mention the fact that Sig also removed the notch which was intended to compensate for the loss of the rear irons when the optics plate is removed. Between that and the fact that you now have to choose between dots vs being able to toggle and it’s only available in black, this is one big step forward and 3 steps back. I’m a Sig fan, but not sure why they do this to themselves 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@shawnw.4847 There is only one model they offer that has the rear plate with the iron sights. All others, like the entire line comes with factory installed BUIS. So, the BUIS on the optic are unnecessary. Nobody wakes up and says, “I think today I will run the circle dot” toggles to that setting only to change their mind the next day. As a consumer you still have the choice to purchase the reticle you feel the most comfortable with.

@@TridentConcepts I own 2/3rds of the P320’s available for purchase in California which admittedly is only two; the X-Five Legion and the M18. Both of those models lose their rear iron sight when the optics plate is removed. They fixed that problem with the remaining CA-P320 (X-Macro), but there are thousands of the first two models that have been sold already in the state with this design flaw. Who knows how many P320’s with the same issue were sold in other markets before they fixed the design, but I doubt it was an insignificant number as you are implying. Manufacturing thousands of P320’s that lose the rear iron when the optics plate is removed, providing a solution by including a rear notch in your optic and then removing that feature doesn’t make sense unless there was a manufacturing problem installing the rear glass with the notch there.
People may not “wake up and think today they’ll change to a circle dot”, but if you’re new to running an optic at all, being able to experiment with the three options is better than being pigeon-holed into spending $500 for one and hoping you like it. The Sig pistols and a few other manufacturers that were recently added to the CA commie gun roster are the first additions in about 20 years so many are behind the learning curve on optics, which reticle works best for them, etc. Having one model that can easily toggle between the dots makes more sense than manufacturing three separate models by every measure.

@@shawnw.4847 The M18 was designed to be used with the Romeo M17; which has the BUIS installed. So, that is a non-issue. California represents a small market share of their product line and the rest of the country has moved on. While I know that sucks for you, that is the reality. There is no reason to be making these optics with the BUIS anymore and moving forward that is what you can expect.
While many new shooters are embracing RDS there is also a strong trend towards users selecting a single reticle option. As a result, they have listened to the consumer market and acted on that information. The demographic you are referring to while growing are also more informed these days and so the reticle music chairs is also slowly fading.
There will be other manufactures that continue to offer thinking they are providing a better option for their end users so only time will tell who's right.

@@TridentConcepts slight correction, the regular "civilian" version of the M18 does not work with the Romeo M17. It has a standard DeltaPoint Pro cut. You would need to get a commemorative or contract overrun M17/M18 to have it work with the Romeo M17 optic.

@@AaronGraves seems like a no-brainer for Sig to modify the M17 to a DPP footprint-they would sell the hell out of that optic

I want a green dot. But since the sights are green, I suppose red is best anyway.

Will do a better job on the 500 round mark. Should reach that at the next range session. Will be a short updated video, but will include closeups.
