    Written in 1971 by Norman Gimbel & Charles Fox for the Neil Simon comedy "Star Spangled Girl"-- but later became famous on the "Brady Bunch". The following year, Fox & Gimbel wrote their Grammy winning hit--"Killing Me Softly" which was made famous by Roberta Flack... and later again by The Fugees.

    fun fact: The Brady Bunch episode with Davey Jones aired on 12/10/71. The movie Star Spangled Girl opened on 12/22/71. It was a cross promotion for the film by Paramount.

      The font used is peignot, pronounced pen yo. The same font used on The ABC Movie Of Week and the Mary Tyler Moore Show. A very popular font was used during the 1970s. Also used on the 1974 ABC Movie Of The Week film Smile Jenny. Your Dead. A pilot film for the TV show Harry O with David Janssen.

    1st heard this song from a video of its record playing, then I saw that Jones sang this on The Brady Bunch.......I had absolutely no idea that he originally sang this for the film adaptation of a Neil Simon play!

    I actual saw the movie on its original release; as I recall there wasn't much of an audience in the theater, but, its not as bad as the reviews make it out to be. As for the song,"Girl", I prefer the first version (this one, the film opening) vs the recorded version and the one Jones sang at various venues.

    The song is great, it was the only part of the movie that really was worth anything. I watched about 45 minutes of this movie, before I turned it off, I thought it was terrible. As I understand it, it wasn't exactly packing them into the theaters it played.

    Lets' not ignore the star of film, Sandy Duncan, who was go on make "Trisket snack" commercials throughout the 70's. She was a refreshingly cheerful actress much like the soon to be mega-popular Mary Tyler Moore, and Karen Valentine from TV show 'Room-222' . During the 1990's/2000's actress Jennifer Love Hewit captured the same type of Refreshing cheerfulness.

    Happy Belated Birthday Davy! We miss you. Was thinking about you yesterday, I hope you're having fun up there. You would not have liked the crazy times we are living in right now. But a new year of hope is coming. I know you would have approved of our new president and our first female vice president! I know Joe and Kamala would have loved you.I wish you were here to make usl laugh and smile again. I will listen to your music again, and always remember that magical night that we had together in 2005 in Wilmington, Delaware. You made me feel like Marcia Brady that night, and I will never forget it! Rest in peace, Davy. I love you.

      Actually was originally in 1966 Neil Simon Broadway play

    • @amightysailingman
      @amightysailingman 3 роки тому

      Of course you would. Look at the credits. Arnold Margolin and Jim Parker wrote the teleplay. They were the executive producers on LAS for the first four years (although IMDb says they were only there for the first two), as well as writing and directing some segments. Likewise, director Jerry Paris did some LAS segments. I would guess Paramount, which was behind the series, gave it to Margolin and Parker as a reward for the show.
      As for the movie itself, do yourself a favor and skip it. It's like the world's longest but worst segment of Love, American Style, or a below-average ABC Movie of the Week. Nonstop talking with nary a quiet moment. And unlike the show or even the credits in this video, it's not happy or joyous. It's all fights and spats - classic Neil Simon - just two guys arguing with each other or a girl against one guy then against the other guy, almost all shot on one small apartment set. Felt a LOT longer than the 1 1/2 hours it really is. This video is the best part of the movie, making it feel all bright and cheerful, which it most assuredly is not.
