I'm in my 20s, but I love 70s music. This song, along with Rainy Jane was my first introduction to Davy. It's a shame Girl didn't chart! I didn't know there were 2 versions of the song.
Wow! This video actually made me remember when i liked girls. I had forgotten there was a time when i really liked and enjoyed them. Wow! Seems like another planet now.
Beautiful Song that really speaks out The Real Truth Especially just by The Way how God created Beautiful Women to come right into our very own lives. it is Really Amazing just how Women looked way way back into those days because to me as a Man hey! what can i say i enjoy the glance just by checking them out. these women right here brought US Beatty like never ever before scene. I think this song that Davy Jones sings is 1 Great Song to listen to and it has a message indeed just because Every single Men right into this world can say Girl look what you done to me.
Written in 1971 by Songwriter Hall of Fame inductees Norman Gimbel & Charles Fox, for the Neil Simon comedy "Star Spangled Girl". The next year Fox & Gimbel would write their Grammy winning hit "Killing Me Softly With His Song" followed by the Jim Croce classic "I Got A Name".
For 25 years, composer Charles Fox has included this song in his live concerts always dedicating to his wife... including last year at their 60th anniversary party. Also, he always plays the slower version, as he intended it.
I did not know there were two versions of this song. This was a treat! Thank you very much for posting. It is always wonderful to discover something new from Davy, even now.
The first version sounds like the one that backed the opening sequence of the movie, and the original Brady Bunch episode. The second rendition has boosted bass and another layer or two of instruments. However, I'm surprised the 'grunge' version from the parody movie was not released! BIG opportunity missed, but its subsequent streaming popularity attests to the greatness of the song from an ironic current perspective. Oh, and the pictures of the 'girls' was so chosen and edited that I almost felt like crying at their beauty!
I love David Jones so much I think he is so cute and nice looking I do miss him alot .he has the cutese smile he has the best singing voice in the world ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤we all love David Jones, I miss David alot from rosemary I have all the monkees albums from you all mike micky peter took and you David Jones I guess no more monkees to be seen on TV I miss watching. You boys on TV really I do well am gonna sign off for now , be good up in haven OK and peter and mike to 5:59
Thanks for posting both versions. I'll never understand why this song wasn't a hit. He sounds great and it's so catchy. Although the movie was not a hit, The Brady Bunch was seen by millions of people weekly. There must have been some kind of miscommunication between the record company, radio stations, and retailers.
The women were far hotter and more feminine during this time period, and America was such a brighter and happier place. We have lost so much of irreplaceable value, things that simply cannot be recreated or put back, and we will never see them again. Except in photos and memories and songs. 😞
Agreed that it was refreshingly wonderful to see naturally beautiful women - no tats, no piercings, fake plastic breasts etc. My memory isn't what it once was - is there a list of these wonderful women?
Didn't chart (no surprise the movie that features this song Star Spangled Girl was a critical and commercial flop), yet this is the post-Monkees song people remember Jones singing.
They had to speed up the Brady Bunch version from the single version because it was only a 1/2 hour tv show and they didn’t want to waste precious time on the song rather than the story (Marcia’s meets Davy Jones). However the lyrics are the same unlike the film version.

Love the pictures of all those beautiful women. No plastic surgery just beautiful. Sad how many nowdays feel that they need to change their look.
This song should have made number 1

Great compilation. Thank you for sharing it. RIP Davy Jones and any of the "girls" in the montage that have passed away. God Bless You & stay safe.
Nice! As a child of the 70s (what an era to grow up in btw!) this video brought bittersweet tears to my eyes! Thank you! Great vid!
That was wonderful!

Outstanding montage! thank you! didn't know about the film version of Girl....thanks too for the info on that!
He also performed this tune on an episode of "The Brady Bunch" tv series around that time.

Loved this
Nice video and beautiful song 🎵
There were a lot of the Honeys back then ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The Brady Bunch version, starting at 3:18, is much better!
excellent montage
The Brady Bunch version starts at 3:18, when Marcia was The President of the Davy Jones Club and tried to get him to sing at her prom.
Lovely
Like this song although The grunge version from the brady bunch movie is my favorite.
This was very interesting to me because I didn't know any of the background story about this song.

Neato
You missed Sally Field, Barbara Hershey, Barbara Feldom, who were young and beautiful icons in the mid sixties.
Agreed. One or all 3 should have been in the vid instead of "Hanoi Jane" fonda.
I thought I saw Barbara Feldon quickly at the very end
Not to mention Barbara Bain and Tina Cole
The version on The Brady Bunch was different also. A little faster.
