- This is the ultimate look at how awesome the DM series digital mixers work as dedicated and very sophisticated MIDI controllers inside Pro Tools 10 (earlier or later version). Very awesome indeed. Please check out the TASCAM Forums on DM3200/ 4800 at the TASCAM Forums.

Ive had the DM4800 for 8 years now and you have just shown me in 20 mins how I can use it to control Sonar and Kontakt without buying another controller. You sir are on my xmas card list!!!
Thank you for your kind words. My mission is alwats to purely demystify thus gorgeous awesome console so people like you can make your music happen.
BTW, I really, really..appreciate this video, and the tremendous effort you put into it. Thank you.
Hey man. Currently in the hospital with COVID. Another day.
@@Jamsire Omg..get well soon brother. You're a righteous man.
Wow great vid, thank you - life saver!
Love for all the hardwork! Thanks alot! Subbed!
Glad you liked it. I hope it can work for you and your situation.
HEY i know this is an older video but i set up my DM4800 the same way you stated in this video. I want to use it to control my faders in protools 12 HD. For some reason protools is controlling the DM4800 faders. How do i reverse that? I'm using the HUI Emulate mode. Also how would i get the play and stop buttons on the DM4800 to control protools DAW and will the meter Bridge work as well?
Adam Jay.
1. YES
2. I'm not a Reason user since version 4, so I don't know.
3. Yes
Really nice video. I've tried to apply the settings you did on Cakewalk sonar but it's still not working. Please help me out..
Can you do a DM4800 OR DM3200 MIDI Control tutorial for Logic pro X? PLEASE, THANK YOU.
Hi. I don't know how to use Logic. The midi setup is Universal on the DM's. Everything else is software DAW specific.
@@Jamsire thank you
Can you do A tutorial on the tascam DM-3200 or DM-4800 routing and assigning for pro tools 10 or 11?
Hi. That info is available on the tascamforums.com. Do a search on those terms and you will find detailed instructions.
@@Jamsire Thanks.
Hello,Question? do u know if the meter bridge works in protools?
any tips on hooking up jl cooper mcs 3800 thru midi interface in protools 8?
Nope. I don't use that device and I don't have any experience with it.
I was told you can only use 16 faders with the dm 4800, is that true and also do I need to have the fire wire card In Order to use the 4800 as a daw controller, that's all I want to use it for I prefer to use analog gear for my signal
Path.
I'm going to be using cubase.
Well, you can use up to as many bankable faders as you need.
You need the USB to be connected to your computer so can work in the remote layer. I don't know where you're getting your information from.
@@Jamsire but can you use more than 16 faders when using the tascam as a daw controller.
@@tecno8335 Again, as many faders that are in your daw. If you have 20 faders in your daw, you use 20 faders on the DM. If you have more than 24, you press the Bank button on the left side of the board where other control buttons are and go to the next set of faders.
nice video thanks a lot! Can i ask you how you connect the screen video of the tascam in the same video of your computer?
Hi! You need the TMC software to take a screenshot of the Tascam window.
I use usb for control in the remote control and I have a Hammer fall adat card for sound transmission. I was told that I can't use on board effects if in remote control, I can only use the daw effects. Is this true?
No it's not true. You can use the onboard effects if you come back into the board using the firewire channels on the first layer. You have can always use the onboard effects anytime you have a signal coming into the first 48 channels . It depends on how you mix.
Hi do you know how to set up that Tascam with fl studio for control mixer with faders and play, rewind and forward
Nope. I don't use the software.
Thank you very much for this video. I work with Pro Tools and a dm4800. Using the Hui set up I was able to remote control the first 24 tracks (vol pan mute and solo is enough for me). This was very simple. But how do you do to control the other tracks? Is possible to have control of 48 tracks ? Thank you very much
You have to use the "bank" button on the right side of the DM4800 to get the other 48 tracks in the remote layer.
hi friend, how I set up the meter tascam to answer to protools ? thank you !
The meter bridge doesn't work in the Remote Layer.
Hello Jasmire. I have a question about routing back audio playback back through the DM4800. I've always had to switch the back to the computer soundcard to listen to my tracks but am not able to record another tack and hear the existing tracks to overdub to. Can you please tell me the settings in order to listen back through the mixer with protools. I also use cubase but I would think they are simalair. Thank yu for any help you can give.
John Hope do you have the IF-FW MKII Firewire Card? That's what I use.
Jamsire hi Jasmine. I have that FireWire card I think my problem is not knowing how to route it with pro tools and also with the 4800 mixer. I'm get sound to the channels ok just not hearing it on playback unless I switch to my computer ASIO driver but then I can't continue with the recording. I need to hear it back through the FireWire card.
John Hope - please go over and register at www.tascamforums.com. There us a section dedicated to the DM3200/4800. If you do a search on routing for the DM, there is a detailed explanation of how to do it.
Ok thanks jasmire will do. Take care. Watched your videos and they are the best.
Jamsire I have the DM3200 and I followed your video verbatim and for your fader, mixer, user define etc you have 24 channels and on my DM3200 it has 16, now is it because I have this particular model and not the DM4800 if that does not make a difference than how can I increase my channesl? Thanks in advance!
It's just 8 channels less than than the DM4800. The process is the same.
Hello Sir I hope that all is well. I recently purchased the Tascam DM4800 for my daughter.
I connected it for her. For some reason, I'm not able to hear any sound coming out of the board in the speakers. I connected a mic and a keyboard and I don't hear sound from any device. Any thoughts on what I can be doing wrong? Thank you in advance.
Have you joined the Tascam Forums? Lots of answers there. I could walk you through it.
can 24 faders be used in hui
192Kilohertz Absolutely!
Hi,
You know if the DM 4800 is compatible with Pro Tools 12 and OSX El Capitan using the Thunderbolt x Firewire adapter?
Best regards,
Dimobr
You need to ask this question in the www.tascamforums.com under the DM3200/ DM4800 section. I don't use a mac. Good luck.
Thanks for the answer.
The meter bridge does not work in the remote layer.
+Jamsire I think that the meter bridge issue in remote layer has been addressed in the newest firmware. Good Luck.
+Robert Kennedy - Hi! I don't have a meter bridge. I just know that the individual tracks of audio from the DAW is not reflected on the meter bridge in the remote layer. if the audio is coming back into the board on the first three layers, the audio will be reflected on the meter bridge.
Good evening Jamsire.
I am very pleased to found you here. First at all thanks for your effort to made this video help us.I still have some questions according the Tascam DM 3200.My Current Setup is a Mac Mini, OS X 10.8.5 and Pro Tools 12.5 !I do have the option to run Pro Tools 11 eigther if I must. :)Are you familiar with the compatibility with this Kind of Setup.I would love to record a band(friends) in the near future and Mix/Master with the DM 3200 as well after too.Is their a chance to get this Setup run in its full potential???
Thanks a lot in advance and kind regards Form Germany. :)
culttree-records - hi there. I do not use a MAC. I suggest you sign up at tascamforums.com. There's a section dedicated to the DM3200/4800. You will find answers there. Good luck.
Can you show how this works using Ableton?
just use MIDI learn. same Deal.
How do you display the DM's channel parameters on your computer's display. If I am seeing correctly of course! I see that further along you mention that you had taken screenshots. My apologies.
Peter Batah - not sure what you mean. You only see the plugin control parameters. You're just sending midi data to the computer from the DM.
I meant the screenshots that you are using throughout your presentation. It took me a minute or two to realize that they were screenshots and not an extension of the DM's onboard display. Not to worry.
Peter Batah - the screenshot are done directly from the console. They are .png files.
Ahh. Cool. You then save them to a USB flash drive or a CF card? I'm guessing! By the way, I am close to purchasing a DM-3200. Your tutorials will be an absolute go-to reference point for me. Thanks for sharing your time, knowledge, and expertise with us. Especially noobs like me!
Peter Batah - there's an editor called TC Companion or something, I forget, but it allows you to transfer all of your routing settings, etc. to your computer
i almost know wtf you are talking about. We just got one of those boards and just got the firewire card, about to install it. All this midi shit you are talking about is some deep midi Neo Matrix mode stuff. You are hardcore. Are you in Atlanta? Would hire you to show my engineer studio buddy the crash course on some mad scientist stuff on that board.
Pauly Stax - just saw this message! Sorry. inbox me.
