What a lovely treat to hear such a high quality recording of this. I have always loved watching this show. ABBA were my childhood heroes!! And.....Frida rocks!!! There's another section of the show where she sings some opera!! I love Olivia as well.
This special aired one month before the release of Grease. You're The One That I Want was already #1, but this is probably the first time this audience ever heard HDTY.
What you're watching is the unedited version of the Olivia Special...it doesn't include any of the overdubs that were present on the show that aired on ABC-TV in '78. I never knew they had the technology back in the 70's. Especially in ABBA's case, where the director duplicated all of their voices and added more instruments (especially on Take a Chance on Me). He wanted to make it a fuller sound because everyone had mono tvs back then. Check it out. P.S. FRIDA RULES!!!!!
Yea, I did find a broadcast version and it's very loud. Too much drums IMO. And when the girls sing with Andy, their mics were almost completely turned down. I LOVE this absolute raw audio footage!
@@kimwatchesstuff It really is an incredible piece of television history that someone kept all these years. Unfortunately, the gentleman that posted this originally has now passed away. He also had a video of the jam session that took place at the end of the Olivia Special. He said that it was over an hour long!!! Maybe it'll see the light of day sometime.
I must have been 13 when this aired. I was so excited! Still listen to ABBA about every day. Have got to listen to Olivia more often too. Thank you for the reaction. It also hid from me.
