I love this show but this episode and especially the follow up... at the very concept made me angry a bit. Akko and her friends are essentially given the absolute worst scenario and they're just expected to deal with it with literally no chance for them to win the contest either. The odd thing is that the whole thing you pointed out about it being "rigged" looks one hundred percent true no matter how you slice it.
"Akko saved future students from a traumatic experience? Nah she's disqualified! Diana did a pretty show and uh, yeah, she was gonna get the crown no matter what Akko could have done."
Off- Screen The fact that the Vice Principal is a major asshole is essentially never up for debate as far as this series goes.
The selection seems so rigged I'm almost convinced it isn't because I feel the the teachers wouldn't have bothered with something so elaborate just to ensure Akko gets shafted. They'd just openly say, "Diana gets the summoning job because she's the best at everything, Akko gets the sacrifice job because she's a tart-stealing screw-up."
Man... this far in the series I just wish we knew who Shiny Chariot was... even a small hint would be great. Oh well.
