Man I’d love to have 20+ acres, most forested with trails, about about 5 cleared, and a small tractor like this. That what my dream retirement looks like.
I had a Flail mower on my 9-N Ford tractor. It was much, much bigger than yours, but it sure did work good. Had to switch out the many blades every so often and resharpen. Had it for many years.
I used a flail mower back in the 80’s but it wasn’t pto driven. It was a self propelled model with its own engine and it had a hopper. If I remember correctly it was made by Olathe. We used it to cut grass, dethatch, pickup debris, leaves whatever all in one cool swoop.
You’re using a flail in rocky central Texas? We live in rocky east Texas. I was considering one of these but I read that they add rocks don’t get along well. What’s been your experience?
I've used a flail mower cutting road side ditches. Nothing like getting caught up in some wire or a hidden roll of fencing somebody had dumped. The blades can be tedious to replace but it will definitely cut anything from short grass to tall grass with ease. It can also do some light bush hogging.
I have one on a Husqvarna AWD riding mower. Mounts up front. Rather than “blades,” think of hammers with a wedge edge. Cost was about $2,500 4-5 years ago. Works well on a 25 HP Husqvarna.
We used to use these at FDOT. We use to mow the sides of the embankments. Of course, it was mounted on a certain type of tractor. Now show them how to change the blades. I remember having to help one of the guys that ran flail mower change his blades one day. I’ll stick to my batwing style of mower.
Eyup! I loved the times I got to use a flail when I was working for grounds in college. Flails are so much more versatile than a hog and do not bounce and gouge like a hog.
Skid steer attachments run on hydraulics. They flow much more than tractors and can handle implements like that. Most tractor implements are PTO driven.
We have two ventracs at my golfcourse where I work and we love them. I know many courses that uses tractors and I must say I love both. Worked with both. Tho for me right now ventrac takes the win but that is because it is too wet and tractor not needed. Pros tractor Easy to use (for me atleast) Great resualt. Can get close to water. Cons Leaves marks on wet ground Takes some time to attach to tractor Ventrac Pros No marks Strong Quick Can be attached with 8 wheels instead of 4 Does nearly never get stuck. Cons Not supereasy to learn
I love my flail mower. My customers are always surprised with the results. I get asked all the time if I could brush hog a field for them. And I always respond with no, I actually don't mow with a brush hog anymore because I was never happy with the cut quality, but I can mow your field with my flail mower. 😅
I have a 24HP tractor with a 5ft flail mower and it's astonishing what I can do. It cuts and chews through small trees and shrubs, making a pile of branches disappear and is quieter than a push mower plus it doesn't throw projectiles out. That's right, I mow right by my Lexus. Not much worry about a few stumps or stones poking out either, the blades bounce on them... And It's just a small 24HP tractor, best attachment for my summer field maintenance.
British farms have miles of hedgerows used to field separation wind breaks and of course wildlife habitat. Every autumn (fall) they are cut back with flail mowers on booms.
I love flail mowers, the only thing is, wire wraps around the drum in a few seconds before you can shut it off. So, if you have one and there are old wire fences, patrol around the perimeters before you go near the fence with the flail mower.
Skeptical, because I’ve had one... They take considerably more power, unless you sacrifice ground speed. Also, no mention of maintenance. The cost of servicing the flails is much higher along with the time required. Finish mowing? By their design, they rip the blades and stems. They definitely have their place, but for anyone concerned with the health of their turf. They’re a pretty crude option.
I really want one, but first I need the property for it. People might look at me a little funny if I fire up a tractor and flail mower for the postage stamp I currently have.
Flail motors are amazing. But in that video I see the guy to low and clip the dirt. NO NOT LET IT HIT THE DIRT. It fills the flails and then it doesn’t cut straight and it mangles your yard. And switching flails isn’t cheap or easy. Also don’t let them hit gravel or tree stumps. Raise them a bit on uneven ground so they never hit the dirt or gravel and they will work great for years. We have a massive one for our 4x4 that can angle so you can cut the ditch but it adds more flails to clear the dirt and the angles sometimes shave a lil high spots but after all these years the yard is level and it cost me a lot of time fixing flails and sharpening triangles.
Been trying to get a flail mower. But while you ship all over the country, you don't ship to Hawaii. So I'm stuck using my tractor for everything but lawn maintenance...
They might ship to Hawaii if you pay them enough. That's a problem I always run into also. Mainlanders like to think that is our penalty for living in paradise.
I live in east Texas and have a few acres I mow. This would also be perfect to help me maintain around my tree line and keep a path open down to the creek. I have a 970 John Deere. Be cool to be a test subject for you all.
Looking for something that's a hybrid between a flail mower, tiller, and forestry mulcher. Looking for an attachment that does it all in one pass. Mainly for wildlife food plots. Grab maybe a inch or two of soil and mix it all in.
Mulcher will do it, but you'll wear the teeth out pretty quick. Tiller won't process woody material. Flail will be in the same boat as the mulcher, but also won't till the ground at all. A tool doesn't exist if you don't want to wear it out prematurely. If you don't care about that, then go with the mulcher. It is far and away the most expensive of the options.
Our Husqvarna 23hp lawn tractor with a 46" deck can be used for finish mowing and brush hogging. ..... But only in that order. Bent blades and wheels broken off change things. It behaves more like a rotovator on one side and graduated height cut toward the other. Some might not care for that type of lawn finish. My wife would fit well in that category. Now....how can I get that front corner pulled up a bit? 🤔.... Tie wire, turn buckle, scrap steel. 🤯 Don't see why it shouldn't work 😂😂😂😂.
I would use it on saplings only. I suppose you could use it to cut stumps sized 2" to 4" but you would eat through the knives in no time, so it really isn't worth it.
One thing about those mothers like that is he could scalp your lawn if it's not perfectly flat and if you do brush cutting you have to restart your nose blades before you can cut your grass Oriental beat your grass to where it turns brown oops he forgot to tell you about that stuff
I don’t own any land but I want a tractor with a bunch of attachments 😂. Maybe I could pay for it by doing jobs with it on the weekends? My land lord has a John Deere tractor that I use a lot for working around her property. It’s not work, it’s a fun machine to operate. I can spent most of a day mowing or tilling and not feel like I’ve worked. I’m a truck driver so I’m used to working 12-16 hour days. The tractor is relaxing in the fact none of you bastards are cutting me off on the highway 😂
i live in a two room appartement in the city and bought a flail mower because of this video, so far it’s very useful
Makes the perfect coffee table huh?
😂😂😂😂
Plus you can keep the parking lot cleaned up.
How small does it shred the bones Jeffy
@@d1bigshifter737😂
Man I’d love to have 20+ acres, most forested with trails, about about 5 cleared, and a small tractor like this. That what my dream retirement looks like.
Now all I need to do is get the attachment,
I think it's called a tractor?🤔
I had a Flail mower on my 9-N Ford tractor. It was much, much bigger than yours, but it sure did work good. Had to switch out the many blades every so often and resharpen. Had it for many years.
Yep... Used them for years in the orchard. But be prepared for the $. Not only expensive....but the replacement hammers are insanely expensive.
It’s hammer time.
@@Make-Asylums-Great-Againget in there lewis
Thanks! Thats why I read the comments! So many times no one tells you if something is pricey or not.🤠👍
Looks like a subcompact in this video.
Expensiv ? I bought one new out of the box for 1000 euros in europ. Thats 900 dollars.
Bought mine from victory tractor EMSD Series. Awesome mower and terrific company.
The mower keeps you company too?
Im glad I know this. Next time Im out in the concrete highway I’ll make sure to get one for my concrete backyard

Love my old 8’ Ford. The absolute best for rocky central TX brush and tall grass.
You’re using a flail in rocky central Texas? We live in rocky east Texas. I was considering one of these but I read that they add rocks don’t get along well. What’s been your experience?
Sweet! Now I just need a big ass tractor, and some land! This video was oddly satisfying however. Lol
Very small tractor
No idea what the difference is with a flail mower but now I want one and a tractor and some land now
I Have to have this for my 1/4 acre.
Right
Yep, now I want one & I live in a townhouse!

@@coloradostrong that was worth a response. Lol

And now I don’t know what a flail mower is!

But there soooooo expensive to maintain those flail hammers are really expensive
I never knew I needed one. Thanks dude.
I’d like to see one that also fits in place of the bucket for reaching all the way to the pond. Similar to a skid steer setup.
Look up a titan offset flail mower they have hydraulic arms that swing the head out attaches to the 3 point I love mine
@@jakeseymour7862 I’ll definitely take look. Thanks for the tip.

Like a hydro ax with the flail head on it. Little bit bigger than what we're looking at here though 😁
I think someone makes flail mower attachments for skidsteers.

You know they suck if the Brits use them lol
Have a 5' model on a Kioti CK2610 that is an awesome combination for cutting brush, weeds and tall grass. I finish mow with a zero turn mower.
Now discuss all of the different flails and scoops and knives available for different Terrain and cutting purposes.
Been needing one of these but haven't settled on one thats proven to be tough enough
I love my 7' flail mower. The offset is really handy. The only downside is keeping all those small blades sharp. And the occasional blade replacement
Been to 4 Burns. 01, 02, 05, 07. Amazing experiences, great weather, I guess my worship was sanctioned my God.

What a neat attachment
Aight, now I'm gonna make one myself for my old riding mower 😅
Okay, I’m just put it out there. I have absolutely no need for one of these, but if I had the money he just sold me on one. That thing rocks
Indeed..expensive but will pay for itself with work done/multirole capability..
I need one of these!
My yard is about 1 pass wide and now I want one.
LOL. Done in 60 seconds. Have a shed on both sides. You can reverse into a shed and you're done.
I worked at a golf course and this would’ve been a game changer even if we only had one
I didn't know I needed a flail mower until now.
Ill never need one but im glad this exists
2 decades ago, I ran them for the county. Road side, cut up lots of crap

Good for aweeping mines .... coming soon...
They do great on grass I got into some hemp and plugged it up spent next hour digging it out stay out of hemp just saying
Love your channel!!
Can you set it low enough to work up the top 1/2” of soil/vegetation? Or at least the surface vegetation to prepare a seed bed?
That’s dope.
How tall can you mow pasture grass with this? Do you have to keep it low or can you mow it at 8 inches or something similar?
Haven't had good luck "mowing" with them, but bashing the brush to the ground....nothing better.

Very cool
Do they have one of these that will work with the little mini Kubota??
Cool concept looks very useful, but the cost is too high for most
What about sharpening? How do you sharpen all those blades?
They are simply replaced. They are simply pined on the roller and you pull the pin, remove the blade and put on a new one.
We’ve always done the same thing with our king cutter
Another advantage is it does not shoot grass or other debris out the side.
You did not show us what makes a Flail Mower different from a regular mower. What cuts the grass? I assume it's not a blade.
How is it? Thanks
Can anyone tell me if flail mowers can handle 3 foot tall grass without it getting wrapped around and binding up the mower?
Will that eat up small stumps like a stump grinder if you go slow?
I was wondering the same thing
I would use it on saplings only. I suppose you could use it to cut stumps sized 2" to 4" but you would eat through the knives in no time, so it really isn't worth it.
Just so many reasons why a flail mower is the one attachment you should buy.
How well does that mower work with the summit reactor?
How much this little puppy run!?
Here's a link! www.goodworkstractors.com/product/offset-flail-mower/
Does it come with a free tractor?
I'm sold. Now I just need to find some grass

What is the dark green "Summit" tractor!?
Nice 👍🏻
Got any in a Walk-Behind size?
It’s nice until you have to buy the blades
Do you ship to Canada?
Never heard a bush hog called a brush hog before
People do refer to them as both, alll the time.
What do you recommend for the bx23s?
How neat is that?

You got the right attitude! Go get it
Hopefully it comes a lot wider to cut large fields. Because that is not very big.
Of course, for larger machines. Smaller machines can't run bigger mowers. Should be common sense.
Do you have an adapter kit for a subaru wagon?
Where can I go and look at one of these tractors?
Cool
I have an old Ford flail mower. It does NOT do well in tall grass (36”).
Are they any good for slopes or sm hills
They follow along behind your tractor. So, if your tractor can go there, then so can the mower.
