Wow! Olivia de Havilland was a total babe. Lucky Errol. I saw this as a kid back in the 50s on Armed Forces TV in the Canal Zone. They always had a classic movie going on late Saturday nights.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold actually also composed a movie called "Give us this night" (I think it was called) at the same time he composed "captain Blood", he would compose "Give us this night" during the day and then sit in a projection booth at night and make the music for captain Blood. Amazing story 👍
Great review. Loved it. It's movies like this that will always keep me interested in the classics. Another adventure movie that I really love is Lloyd's of London. It has a great story about the importance of trust. Erich Korngold did the music for Kings Row. It's not an adventure movie, but it's easily in my top 5. I always describe how when I first saw it I literally couldn't move for 5 minutes when it was over. It really shook me up. I agree with you, by the way, about biographies. I shy away from them. I don't want to ruin the illusion. Finally, if you're in the mood for a great comedy with Olivia de Havilland, from around this time, check out The Great Garrick. It's another one of my all-time favorites. The Comedie Francaise troupe makes an elaborate attempt at tarnishing Brian Aherne's reputation (The Great Garrick) by pretending to be innkeepers. He discovers who they really are, but later mistakes innocent Olivia de Havilland as one of them. It's a riot. Anyway, thanks as always for bringing attention to the classics with your reviews. 👍
Thanks for those tips! I've heard some of the Kings Row music and it reminds me of John Williams' music from Star Wars, but haven't seen the film yet. It's on my list for sure!
