The one flaw in this movie is when Bruno retrieves the lighter from the sewer he clutches it in his fist which would have been much too large to fit back through the narrow bars of the g r a t e. A minor detail in an otherwise masterpiece.

Recorded this at the tail end of a long lingering cold so you might be able to hear a little bit of strain to my voice in places, but otherwise I managed to get through the recording, with plenty of Robitussin and Ricola!

The Stranger has 3 superstars in top form. Brilliant lighting and shadows. A work of art.

A masterpiece indeed. I agree, this one is a real gem and wow....what a cast. Orson Welles especially, he's always a treat to watch. Loved your insights, commentary & trivia...I didn't know any of the behind scenes bit about Welles...no wonder he appeared so thin in this one. So it wasn't just because he was much younger. ha ha, Be well man!

One of my FAVORITE movies - EVER!

Well, this one was in the "copyright claim" doghouse for 30 days, even though it's a review of a PUBLIC DOMAIN movie! I think I've uploaded two more reviews during the timespan from when this was first uploaded this! In any case, this is/was technically my 300th review, so I picked a film I really love, The Stranger (1946). It's one of those old classics I've seen several times and always enjoy revisting. Edward G. Robinson, Loretta Young and Orson Welles are all fantastic in this one. Sorry it took awhile to get this one uploaded but as mentioned, there seems to be an issue with the copyright review system. Better late than never I guess.

Excellent review. Haha. No worries about your voice. Hopefully whatever you have doesn't linger too much longer. There's nothing worse than a summer cold. I've never seen this one, but it looks very interesting. Besides, I'm always on the lookout for more '50s Westerns, and for movies with Gregory Peck. I'll definitely be picking up a copy of this when I can. If you've never seen The Valley of Decision, I can highly recommend that one. It's one of my favorite Gregory Peck movies. He plays a young steel mill owner facing both personal and business challenges. (I agree. The Gunfighter is a great movie. I think I commented on your review of that, how it's one of those movies I liked even more on a rewatch.)

This one has been on my radar for a long time, but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I love the John Wayne Cavalry Trilogy. Ward Bond is a big part of the John Ford stable. He's in a bunch of John Ford's films.

As I watch these old films I look up the actors to see if they are still alive and like you said you find some amazing facts like the story of Gig Young

I enjoy The Inner Sanctum series and feel that it and its star Lon Chaney Jr. are underrated. I also don't care to split hairs re genre; I consider these films part of Universal's classic horrors.
