I highly suggest doing a night at a monastery in koyasan. The birth place of Japanese Buddhism. Nothing like anywhere I have traveled. Moss covered tombstones intertwine with larger camphor trees walking to the temple in the center.
@mateuszkubicki1423 I stayed at the famous ekoin and it was definitely not cheap but I highly suggest staying there one night. It's so far away from everything. We went on a tour of the cemetery hosted by them. And u can go in the morning when it's all foggy and watch the monks serve offerings to the temple. There are many affordable ryokans. I highly suggest reconsidering and staying at an more affordable option. The ekoin a night tour is also offered to non staying guests.
Plz try going to smaller cities in Japan! You’ll really find the beauty of Japan there since Japan itself is a country rich of culture and history. But ofc, if it’s your first time going then Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto are a must.
If you are going first time and only for 2 weeks, the suggested cities are a probably best for first visit. For second trip is where you probably want to choose exploring North (Tohoku/Hokkaido) or south (chugoku/kyushu)
Such beautiful locations! I wish I could visit these beautiful places! I'm Ohio, the only places of beauty I get are Marblehead Lighthouse and a reservoir during my walks during summer. Even these small places during sunset can be gorgeous!!!
Appreciate your fair evaluation of Japan. I have been to Japan often and two weeks is perfect for your first visit to Japan. Very clean, safe and hospitable country.
I really recommend visiting Miyajima! It’s an island by Hiroshima and as someone who’s visited Japan multiple times, it’s genuinely the most beautiful place in the country (in my opinion of course)! The water is beautiful and apart from visiting the famous Itsukushima shrine, definitely take a walk in the forest. Beautiful 10/10
I did 6 days in Tokyo, 3 in kyoto nd 2 in osaka. The last two cities definitely felt rushed. I hated how fast we were hoping from one place to another. I would suggest to focus on 2 cities as a base from where you travel or at least to not overcrowd your schedule with moving, especially on the last days. We walked 20k steps each day trying to take everything in and it felt like a race for time. we were there 10 days
First round trip for me coming up in spring. I have 14 days I could do. I’d of course would like to go to Osaka, and Tokyo. Would I have enough time to visit Kyoto for 2-3 days? I’d like to make my stay as comfortable as possible, in terms of traveling around Japan.
I can’t wait! My partner and I are going in two months and doing a similar itinary (3 weeks in Japan and 1 week in Hong Kong as well to see where my partner grew up). It will be my first time travelling outside Australia and NZ!
Did all this in 10 days. Honestly, Tokyo itself could be a 10-14 day trip. Was able to explore almost all of it in 4 days but wouldn't recommend unless walking 15-20 miles a day is your thing. You could easily take a quick day trip to Nara from Osaka, it's like an hour away. Quick and easy. Could also easily make a 10-14 day trip of the entire Kansai region (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Nara). Also took a day trip to Fujiyoshida and that was awesome. Clear skies of Mt. Fuji and great view at the famed Chureito Pagoda Really wish I stayed in Arashiyama more. Partly cause I stayed in a ryokan with multiple private onsen but just the area is too beautiful
@@katemaldonado3688 Also to note, depending on who you're going with (family, spouse/partner, friends, or alone) a machiya or old style Japanese house especially one with an outdoor bath or one of those hotels with your own private onsens although I know those are in other areas such as Hakone, Kawaguchiko, etc. I think for me the next time I go back to Japan (Oct/Nov 2025), I will try to stay in a machiya or spend more time at a ryokan

I am originally from Tokyo, but I disagree there ! Lol. I recommend stay in Tokyo for 4 to 5 days ,then 5 to 7 days in Kyoto ,use Kyoto as a base to visit Osaka/ Nara !! Or 7 days in Tokyo & another 6, 7 days in Kyoto and visit Osaka & Nara !! Otherwise,5 to 7 days in Tokyo ( really depends what your purposes are ) & 4 days in Kyoto & 2 days in Osaka & a day trip to Nara ! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
@robinberner6484 The hotel I really recommend is Hotel Granvia Kyoto ,it's connected to the main train station !! I had stayed there w my mother for a few days in 2001 .We had a terrific time there !! The convenience/ hospitality were exceptional !! They have fabulous reviews to this day !! The price really varies. If you book it during the cherry blossom( usually April ) viewing season, it's very expensive. We did .But,if you book for Japanese plum viewing season, which is February, it's affordable & 1/3 price compared to the cherry blossom season ! ( it's cold, though ! ) There are many capsule hotels ( not tiny rooms ,bigger & lots of amenities come along !! ) in Kyoto near the train station. Yes,I would say you should stay near the main train station ! Especially if you visit for a short time or a brief period ! So that you can check in / out w/ o wasting your time & get going !!You'll love Kyoto !!
4 days osaka😂 i live in japan and trust me 1 and half day is enough. Go to nature like nagano or hakone for a day and kamakura 1 day , kusatsu for onsen etc
Going next year, deciding to spend 18 days in Tokyo and the area around for my first trip, that way i can make sure to see and do everything i want in Tokyo and then for my next trip do places like Osaka and Kyoto

It’s actually not. Kyoto is 15 minutes away by bullet train, so is Kobe and Nara. You literally don’t have to stay in Nara and just stay in Osaka so you don’t carry your bags around from place to place lol
