Great video 👍well done for cleaning up the canals and rivers .
No problem
One of your best videos mate
I magnet fished near a lock in Chester as a kid with my Dad and brother in 1979, not that one, but one with a road bridge nearby. borrowed a huge speaker magnet from my primary school teacher to recover a canal lock key that we had dropped of a boat we were on the week previously. Amongst the junk we found rod stands, several lock keys, an opened coin operated gas meter and, with the help of a grapple made from a found bike-frame, recovered a knackered Honda step-through "moped" with a huge eel that came out of the mud-gaurd once we had dragged it over the towpath and onto some grass, the Eel headed back for the canal and sent us all freaking out a bit - it was huge.
Years later with a "ceramic sea searcher" i tried at the Christleton lock on the edge of chester, more rod stands and an immediately rideable racing bike that I donated to a hippy on a boat moored nearby.
Cheers for reminding me of it.
Good thing you are back!
Cheers
Nice finds, it's great you're finally able to get out again.
I know mate its bee so long
@@drasticg You should come and have a crack in Norfolk.
Another great video keep them coming be safe and enjoy the summer
That LITTLE coin is fcukin MASSIVE!😜👍
Thanks
I guess the flattened coins are from the railway line where the kids used to put coins on the track to squash them when the train came
"the pigeon is moving.... It's going for a swim" I think it's swimming days are over lol. or on the other congratulations to the pigeon for learning the back Stoke.
Ha ha

Greetings from northen Sweden and a fellow magnet fisher.
Chester,, yeey been there, nice place.
Great video mate, I’m intrigued you ended abruptly, did you get your magnet off the side?! 🤷🏼♂️
Yes mate
Good video 👍😊
Thanks
The hook shaped metal was a fixing spike for holding the rail chairs to the sleepers.there not used as much nowadays.
Cheers pal
Great channel
Thankyou
I like the way to greet people so friendly; and, explain what you do! A tidbit of info... My Mom was born in Chester, Georgia USA! You are magnet fishing in Chester, UK(?) I just thought it was interesting! I enjoy watching you pull different stuff out of the canals or, are they called channels? Waterways, Take care, my friend!
The narrow inland waterways we call them canals and the water in-between england and france we call it a channel
I always get so jealous when you guys find awesome stuff 😅, best thing Ive ever found is a knife and yet that seems so measly to the stuff you find.
I've ordered my magnet got rope sorted just have to weight 2 more weeks
Wait
It is hard work again during magnet fishing.
Indeed, a Franck, old money used in France, is for the Euro.
The fixing spikes look like they could be used as carpenters' hold-downs.
love the vids mate, you ever thought over mag fishing from a little boat you know a dinghy in rivers or on the Coast..?/
Ive tried mate dingys are no good, when you throw the magnet it and pull the rope the dingy moves and not the magnet
@@drasticg True Bud true thanks for reply Ciao
We went on Diggle canal for first time it was great, did you get your magnet off at the end ?
Yes mate
The items you are calling hooks are actually called Elastic Spikes. They are an old system for anchoring the Plates down that the rail sits on.
I bet these railway spikes could be transformed into some nice wall hooks or so.
Anyways, I think that you can sell them via Amazon or Ebay without modifying or restaurating them. Good to see you back btw!
You should go to Wrexham in north wales 🏴 it’s only 12miles down the road from Chester.
Still need to come to Gloucester Gareth :)
Will do one day, life gets in the way
Drasticg yeah that’s the problem I’m always cycling along our canal it’s a historic docks use to be a busy canal back in the day you’d probably find lots of Sainsbury’s trolleys as there’s a Sainsbury’s by canal and pubs and shopping centre and river Severn close by
Are the hooks for holding the concrete sleepers in place
Im not sure
My home City.. Your By Telfords warehouse :)
Love Your Content (You Inspired me)
Thanks
My home town.
Lovely area
The wendal boys would like this one
I’m pretty sure the hooks where used to keep the lineside cables from the railway track but they don’t use them as much nowadays
"Chester is towards Liverpool hopefully we get some interesting things" Plenty of car wheels then? 😛
The 1980's have been intouch and they said you are free to leave that decade now.
Chester is nowhere near Liverpool btw!
Good vid the item at 9.13, 10.45, 11.36 is a railway track spike. It would off held the base of the rail into the wooder sleeper. The item at 11.45 is a railway track bolt. it would oh screwd into the track chair and tghen held it in place in the wooden sleeper. The chair would of held the running rail and the key with is another device. The hook thing at 12.32 is a pandrol, it is a moden version of fixing the track to the sleeper.
Thanks for the info
In the US you are expected to haul it away yourself. Some rake it to scrap metal yards where they can get paid a little something for the metal they bring in.
Yo English good to seee you back in action, when people ask you need to plug your channel show them a quick chip.
Ha ha
The "Humungous bolt" is called an A,S or Proper name is Anchor Screw. Holds down plates on the track.
Duck's paws lol
The railway item was a sleeper cleat for holding down the rails. The disease that rats etc carries is pronounced Viles disease, I used to row and it’s something everyone’s taught to be aware of. The two Francs was a cool find, the quote on the back is the famous saying from the French revolution, pronounced Libertay, fraternitay, Egal it ay, just to catch out foreigners, hahahaaa🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️♥️
The Pidgeon is swimming!
the last time i went to that bridge i got a bag of eclips just before lockdown
Amazing amount of railway junk..
I would love to go to Europe and do this. Big history buff. So this would be like me winning the lottery.
The "S type thing" is called a 401 key or clip. You won't see the elastic spikes where you are stood. They have been pulled out and replaced.
The things you call hooks are called spikes which hold the rail to the chairs and sleepers
Spot on m8!
When we we're younger 😉 we would walk the tracks and put out the loose ones! 😉👍
Thanks pal
Those hooks are for keeping the sleeper stable on the ballast
Do they still use them?
@@drasticg on the newer track they tend not to but on older or less maintained track like heratige or freight railways you can see the top of them resting on the bottom of the rail
@@wilfbm9067 cheers pal i will look out for them
Dr vernoncoleman you tube great videos and integrity
"Republic French eyes" 😂 it says Republic francais (pronounced fran say) which is literally French Republic in French.
Ha ha oops
🔥
Please do battlesbridge. See if you can find the shotgun used in rettendon murders, supposedly dumped there many years ago
Where is that
@@drasticg battlesbirge, hawk lane, near the hawk Inn. Wickford area.
I bet Franc was happy that you found his lost money.
Whos frank
Looks like a bad day magnet fishing, you can go out and find very little things,, lots of canal are cleaned more these days
Just getting out in the fresh air makes it worth it
Come to Leicester canal bro
There got to be so much where I live
You're on Lockdown Emile!!!!!!
Pandrol clips.....what you refer to as the S clips on the railway.
that was a railway spike that looked like a hook now you found 5 of them
0:30 was anyone else hoping that was the plug.
i hope i dont pull the plug one day
I go for a ride around there
Ah please come to Doncaster because I'm telling you now that you'll find bikes and motor bikes because nobody magnet fishes here and there is a hell of things thrown in the water... Its basically a jackpot town 😂
Will get there one day mate
@@drasticg can't wait 😊
Liberty, Equality, Fraternity. On the French coin.
Thanks pal i had no idea
How's the strong
The video finished quickly?
Do ducks have paws?
