- Big thanks to www.winyourdreambike.co.uk/ for sponsoring the vlog and putting up the epic prize of the BMC! Closes tonight so good luck!
Training camps can always be hit and miss - anything else to add here that I haven't covered?

last camp I ever went on, my roomie decided rather than bring a big tub of carb powder, he'd decant it into small bags. when his bag was x-ray'd and customs picked this up because a spanner set off the machine, he was called back from the departure lounge. he made the flight with minutes to spare after customs thought he was smuggling drugs!! so, pro-tip - always put your cocaine in a tub of High-5
I did a track racing camp with 2 good friends of mine to Trinidad & Tobago for their Easter cycling festival. It was 2 nights in Arima, 1 night in San Fernando. There was night in the capital for a criterium. There were lots of other events. But I could only bring my track bike. Like Alex mentioned, manage your efforts. Coming from Northeastern USA winter/spring to Caribbean heat/humitiy is a shock to the system. We arrived a day early just to ride around and the first racing night I just sat in the bunch and enjoyed the atmosphere. The locals were fit compared to us visitors who were still finding form. But the focus of our trip was to experience the culture - people, food, cycling passion and take a preme or win when we could. I ate a lot! Such a fun trip. That I went back a couple years later.
Did almost all of these (apart from the diet one) last week. Now I'm pretty sick 😂
Brilliant video. I’m a coach and I’ve seen so many people come back from training camps in a complete state, often they have put themselves back a month or so. They’d have been better off giving me the money and me burning it so we could keep warm in the UK.
Very knowledgeable advice, thanks!
Don't no 1: do
I’m guessing the same can apply if you can’t go anywhere and do a self training camp at home
As an amateur cyclist who doesn't have the genetics to break the 3w/kg FTP barrier, I agree with this advice.
Right on time on 4th I go off to glorious malorca first time :^)
Alex will there be any content on your cars/racing? I enjoyed the Matt Stephens Sigma podcast and seeing the 911 and hearing about your Dad's racing career
Hasn’t gone to plan for my daughter and a Saint Piran teammate on Mallorca.
Thanks Alex……very useful. What about Beer and Wine 😂!?
So, unless you’re already training say +3h per day, is it worth going on a training camp as I get the impression you’re more likely to burn out on camp or have a poor few weeks immediately after?
Great tips AD.
My training campus in my shed
RULE no.1 - never ever do things as pro's do, exactly these jumps -
Wise owl 👌
hey alex i saw a teammate of yours in Girona do you know who it is?
I would say that for the vast majority of the people viewing this the order is wrong. Point 6 "Enjoy yourself" should be the clear primary goal. All the training goals and advice is frankly not really important for the Average Joe watching this (although we amateurs love living the illusion that our training level is really important).
half wheeling isnt a thing, its not the guys fault who's half wheeling ahead its the guys fault who's trying to keep up, just go at your own pace.
