These are just GBUs I bet, a B-52 with JDAMs is a nasty decapitation strike in a single aircraft, far less showy but far more destructive
B-1s are even scarier.
@@AirRider44 B52s carry more weight in bomb load, 70k pounds vs “just” 40k in a B2… compared to just 2 in an F-117!
Since we are talking about JDAMs specifically, the ability to drop more per Bomber per sortie equals more targets hit (and at nearly the same time).
Either way, unless you have a radar system showing you the B52s, (wouldn’t help w/ the B2), you’d never know one was dropping JDAMs that were about to drive the house values in your neighborhood downward.
And the houses as well - although they’d ‘fall’ outward and upward first.
I’ve seen simulations which indicated just opening the weapons bay doors on a stealthed aircraft exponentially increases its visibility to radar - I can’t recall the specifics though. Ironically, a JDAM would (probably) generate a much larger radar return than the B-2 that dropped it! (JDAMs are iron bombs, with a receiver and steering kit added onto their noses & tails.)

When I was in Vietnam, there was a B-52 bomb run ten miles away. We had no idea it was coming and the shock waves made us think we were the ones under attack.

They weren't specifically hiding. They had taken the island as a deterrent to ground troops and used it as a supply base and ammo dump. Instead of crossing the river the military decided to bomb it and maintain positions on the riverbanks.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe there are any countries that have any defense against complete stealth, fatal accuracy (nuclear capable accuracy), and global range. Just to help you feel safe, the US Air Force always has at least a single B-2 or B-21 in flight (not always armed) at ALL times. We are ready. There is nothing you can do to stop it should we deem it necessary.

Having been a soldier in Iraq in 06 & 07, when coming home, it stood out how easily it is for family & friends, everyone really, to dismiss the value of other lives, as long as it wasn't them or theirs. Find the cost of 2000 pound JDAM...some guy here said it was actually 80,000 pounds of munitions so multiply JDAM*# of 2000 pounders=munitions cost.
Cost per hour to operate US Military Aircraft is extremely easy to access. I'd guess the B-1 costs more to operate than the B-52 but I could be wrong due to the BONE having half the number of engines. So if you can't figure out the exact number of each aircraft used in this bombing mission then do a table for a few different possibilities.
To figure out sortie time figure out where those large bombers were stationed around that time...I'm not sure if we had the large bombers based at Baghdad International or not. If they were locally based call it a 2 hour sortie for each..if regionally located call it a 6-8 hour sortie...HIGHLY unlikely they were based more than a few countries away. The only aircraft we do that with is the B-2 due to its special hangar requirements. I think England and maybe Diego Garcia are the only installations that have the proper facilities for the B-2.
The JDAM KITS (not just the bombs) are $10,000 each, full cost of GBU-10 is $24,000 but that appears to be an old number...like 20 years old. The BUFF (B-52) can carry 8 internally and either 6 or 12 externally depending on source. The B-1 can carry 8 GBU-10's...I think...although its payload weight is higher it might be limited by the rotary launcher inside...just a guess.
My rough guess would be (JDAM Price*40)+(B-52 Operating Cost per hour*3 Hours*4 Aircraft)+(B-1 Operating Cost per hour*3 Hours*4 Aircraft)= Probably a couple million in aircraft operating costs and then the JDAMS...I'd say they are at least a million for 40 of them...maybe double if that number is really that old.
So I'd say $4,000,000 is a fair guess.
