This was the largest, most destructive storm I've ever been through. I've lived in Tampa, Florida for 14 years and never experienced anything close to this.
You didn't experience the wrath of Andrew in 1992...I lived in Cutler Ridge (now known as Cutler Bay)...165mph sustained winds with 220mph gusts....it was like living through a 4 hour tornado. It took 7 months to get my electric back. The grid was completely destroyed.
That was the most devastating and ferocious storm we've ever seen. The video is breathtaking but it doesn't even come a fraction close to what it was like to live through it. Some of the damage is still not fixed over a year later down here. This area was annihilated.
@@gkupos There's a high pressure system right by SC, and that's why its turning over there. Unless it somehow breaks, then its gonna continue that path until it eventually dies out in the cold northern waters. I'd keep an eye out on Central America though, possible depression to form and start making it's way torwards the panhandle and southern states.
Most of these comments on this video prove that there is stupid people from all states in the US, not just Florida. We had so much power out. That electric companies from all around the country had to restore our power. I went through Irma, so I know. It’s not a competition.
I was living in Florida with my mother during this. We had a terrible time. Electricity was off 2 weeks for me. But we were prepared and the water was still working.
I remember having to go down to Florida after the hurricane (I live in the Midwest) to help my Grandparents and Great Grandfather clean up. Luckily, their house is made of concrete blocks so the house had basically no damage, but my Great Grandfathers grapefruit tree, wasn't so lucky... There were so many branches, ties around trees that had to be taken down, etc. They live just south of Sarasota.
i remember the house across the street having a ladder on the top of their tree. i remember we had no power, cable, or water for a couple days. i remember being outside during the hurricane, the wind strong enough to use my shirt as a sail and whisk me away. i had to keep one hand on the door. the rain was like a blanket of water, not heavy droplets, but constant showering instead. and yet i never felt in danger, it was just some rain and damage. then we saw what had happened in the keys. there were ships in driveways, houses blown apart, trees littering the road.
My Aunt Ann lived in Tampa, Florida during Hurricane Irma and still lives there today despite that storm. All she had to do was evacuate to a concrete hotel.
Mark Clark I rode it out in Miami and the biggest tree my neighbor have fell on their house and their was a big tree like 50 feet tall and 10 feet wide fell in the middle of the rode and we had no power but at the end of the storm it was nighttime and the wind Irma made was a good cool breeze
I lived in Gainesville during this hurricane. We had multiple large, dead trees standing in our yard. We stayed at a neighbors house down the street in case something bad happened when the trees fell. And they did. Blocking the road and tearing up the pipes. That was just in our neighborhood. Many other neighborhoods had multiple feet of flooding and tons of trees down, Including one that damaged a gas station. Many houses were without power for two weeks. That’s in Gainesville, central Florida. I couldn’t imagine what it was like for coastal areas.
We actually experienced Irma in a trailer in Davenport Florida our dog had cancer and died the night before so not only did we go through the storm we also were burning our baby before the storm hit..❤
I live on the east coast of Florida so we didn't get hit that hard but I remember hearing the wind and rain roar all around us. Now I'm sitting here hoping the 2020 season won't be so bad because if Coronavirus
@Phuck Eyoo nobody ask you first of and secondly we know that we just saying we just want a hurricane to come to new york like mind your business like frfr😐
I live on the east coast but I remember walking outside to watch a few times and looking up at the sky, it did look like a giant vacuum cleaner. The clouds were spinning fast and fucking up everything. It was exciting and scary as hell. I took a nap during the best part of the storm... Been upset every since...lol
I was in Miami and I had power and that’s super lucky during a hurricane but I also had internet at the end of the day we started getting tornado warnings
i live in naples florida and i moved there in september 4 and i was just eating at my table when a huge tree can right thru my back pourch. and water was litterly in my house it was a horrible day for me and my family, and my whole town was horible
This was way worse than sandy. Sandy's winds were actually only 80 MPH, the highest wind gust at JFK airport in NYC was 69 MPH, while in Naples the wind reached 142. It was way worse than sandy don't even compare the two.
just a regular day in Florida, nothing new. but tbh the hurricane was overrated I didn't see as much destruction as what Andrew did and they said it would be stronger, sure it packed a punch but could have been allot worse.
Half the reason Andrew looked so bad was because of poorly built homes and other popular structures. Not because it was strong enough to completely wipe out hundreds of houses.
So you think it's funny to laugh at people at catastrophic times in their life ? As far as actual building structures you might be correct but many of these homes are old enough that it was before the building materials became as strong and flexible as they are today. Not to add to it, you say this happens two times a year in Europe... sometimes this happens two, three times a month and the southeast and west side of Gulf in the United States.
