Chicago Street Sweeper Picking Up Leaves

- Here is a video of a Chicago Streets & Sanitation Elgin Pelican street sweeper picking up leaves on a cold, windy Chicago morning. This is the last scheduled street sweeping for the month of November due to winter fast approaching. This was filmed on my camcorder because my Nikon camera battery was unexpectedly low. So enjoy!
I recall that when I was a child growing up on the South side; the neighborhood would rake all the leaves into little piles along the curb and put a match to them.
R.I.P mirrors in front gone
These mechanical sweepers are not very efficient!,one pass with a suction sweeper and all the leaves would be gone saving time and money!
I know. I drive these and it's annoying during leave seasons. People expect me to pick up all these leaves but I have make multiple passes. Vacuum sweepers, like a Crosswind, Tymoc or a RAVO are perfect for leaves

it isn't a very effective machine, or inexperienced driver. should be able to get all of the leaves in one pass if he goes slow and takes his time. the machine seems to struggle a lot when he attempts to graze a pile. just an opinion.
The driver has a lot of streets to do, hence why he's moving fairly quickly. Chicago did have some leaf collection machines years ago, I never seen them in action and I don't know what happened to them.
But I think maybe he's going a little too quickly. If he were able to make maybe three passes with the machine, he could be on the next block faster. Maybe it's a budget thing. They could make the investment, buy don't wish to pay the extra staffing? I've been through something like that with an employer before. I didn't stay with that employer for much longer.
