- The Australia Institute was established to inform public debate, so in that spirit Executive Director Dr Richard Denniss agreed to take the opportunity to argue the case for action on climate change at the National Press Club on Tuesday, 19 July 2011. Richard's opponent was professional climate change sceptic Lord Christopher Monckton.
Scientific evidence and pure logical thinking offered by Monkton, not so by his opponent, typically!
while Australians keep voting in ALP governments with their not so green energy policies we will continue to see scientific evidence being swept under the carpet. Its a case of you get the incompetence you vote for.
And scientists like Greta Thunberg,Al Gore,and John Kerry are just grafters,making money by scaremongering kids,and the fact that the guy debating munckton is not saying that while China,India are building at least another 60 coal fired power stations,negating any reductions we are making,and virtue signalling and carbon taxes are not a panacea for change in the climate,and wasting trillions of dollars on unreliables and disabling any manufacturing capacity we may have had is just total lunacy!@

Scientific evidence is what they were debating, Monckton gave 40-50 technical responses with evidence via the studies. Denniss never once used any evidenced numbers in his reply. Funny that he was claiming the weight of evidence was on his side but couldn't recant any!!!!!!
Yes and he constantly used Fallacies and Pejorative words to trash his opponent. He was in that sense a disgrace.
I totally agree! He was just arguing we have more people on our side so we must be right. Possibly more scientists have been bought off, than those that stay true to their field of expertise?
In my opinion the last question was one of the most important! It doesn't get discussed enough. If all these climate change warriors were so concerned about our planet, why do we still have a plastic waste island between Hawaii and California 3x the size of France? We don't even need science, just google earth! Why do we still use plastic that isn't recyclable or biodegradable. It should be one or the other. We were lied to by big companies for years that the plastic was recyclable when it wasn't, they just added a symbol fraudulently.
Why haven't people called out carbon tax as a joke? If i have a factory that spews pollution into the atmosphere and Julia Gillard charges me a huge tax, what will happen? Business as usual and I pass the cost of this tax to the consumer! Nothing changes!! What if the government got the epa to say, we've had the csiro do some studies and come up with some special filters that will absorb your polluting emissions. If you refuse to buy and fit them, we'll shut you down. They also need to be replaced every 6 months. As a result this cost would still be passed on to the consumer, however the offending factory is now cleaner! The same applies for companies that allow toxic waste to enter the storm water system. Wetlands are fantastic at removing pollutants and should be incorporated in every storm water system wherever possible. This should be a reasonable solution to people from both sides of the argument. Why would we or should we pay a tax that doesn't change a thing except making everything more expensive! Lord monckton did agree that the global temperature is increasing by 1⁰c per year since roughly ww2. This is interesting as the industrial revolution started in 1760-1840. Shouldn't we have had warming before ww2? A good video to watch that may explain why the warming started at this time is on UA-cam. It's called the dimming. This may help people to realise, as usual, there is more going on than we've been told.

I think what they were debating was more like the future direction for the countries of The West. I believe Denniss had Communist/Socialist/Collectivism, and Monkton had the more traditional Western values of Liberalism, Free markets, and individual rights as their positions for this debate.
I'm with Christopher Monkton on this and recommend Randal Carlson aswell

I guffawed at his opening parable about 'the folly' of opting to treat cancer with natural methods rather than the drug/radiate/cut version offered by mainstream. Been there. Done that. Wildly successful. His comments revealed he has NO idea what he's talking about, and his derogatory tone shows he doesn't care to find out.
Rubbish about economists not being sceptic. i am an economist and have studied global warming for thirty years. There is no crisis and man is not responsible.
Oh come on, there is certainly a crisis and man is assuredly responsible. Of course, any economist worth anything knows full well that the kinds of policy solutions that have been agreed to and those that are still in discussion suggest that this has been at a crisis level for some time, and I frankly feel pretty confident that it is people who are causing this. Now, as far as Carbon Dioxide is concerned, that seems like one of the most important gasses in our atmosphere to enable life on our planet, and whether you call it plant food or what plants breathe, or you call it fertilization for plants, may not be the proper scientific description of what is happening, but those three descriptions are surely more accurate than pollutant. It saddens me that Lord Monkton, is engaging such an obviously large amount of time and effort to fighting this crisis, because he seems to have a great mind and an ability to communicate complex ideas to the people, while taking the time to do his research which is frankly hard as hell to do. I wish he weren't lead on a wild goose chase by the dishonest climate agenda activists who are the real cause of this economic crisis.

i suspect that the climate crisis is really about domestic western politics. There are large segments of our society vengeful about our success. They would like to see us impoverished. i have no evidence of this, merely the glaring absence of protests against pollution, the vast majority of which comes, from overseas nations.
Could it be that in service to global equality, western economies are being hamstrung to allow poorer nations to catch up. The result being poverty for everyone.
Presumably he studied economics or something similar because science is complicated.

So much of what I read about the Milord makes me think he is a total BS artist, but you have to hand it to him - he's very good at it!
