This is a brilliant discussion, thank you. Btw did you know in WA they reserve 30% of energy input resources for local consumption at a pre agreed price. I believe it was a Liberal government how surprising, who would have thunk.

Australia is still suffering from the serious aftereffects of neoliberalism. Most ordinary Australians have been hoodwinked by mainstream media that tells them they have to tighten their belts, accept low wage growth, poor public and community services, expensive road tolls, high private health insurance/ energy costs and high food costs. Yet huge profits made by financial corps, fossil fuel corps, health insurance corps is okay and necessary. No austerity for the CEO’s of those corps they receive huge remuneration packages and retire millionaires.

GDay - What you are describing isnt "Neoliberalism" I would call it "Neofeudalism" which is far worst for wage dependant workers...

Keating didn't start neoliberalism lol😂. Neoliberalism reflects an ideology and a set of policies started by Frederic Von Hayek and Milton Friedman in the 1950's and 1960's.

I attended PITP yesterday and agreed with pretty much everything that was said. Albanese has taken small target government to the next level with this budget. While not a terrible budget, it was a wasted opportunity. I have my doubts about the Greens, but a minority Labor government with support from sensible, pragmatic independents is probably our best hope. One issue which doesn't seem to be on the radar of many progressive commentators, however, is the significance of the so-called "culture wars" that is raging online. An increasing number of Australians are pushing back against what they perceive as "woke overreach" by the left. Whatever you think about the conservative social values they are trying to defend, this backlash is drowning out any sensible discussion of the critical economic and environmental problems we so care about. While this cultural division is being magnified and accelerated by social media, progressives must find a way of engaging with the large and growing segment of the population which feels alienated (wrongly or rightly) by the progressive agenda. All the excellent and rational ideas of the Australia Institute will be to no avail if this cultural polarisation continues to intensify.

Precision is not Accuracy, and refreshing the labelling on the Monachist Expeditionary Forces by an inversion of the facts as to who has power without glory, that's standard practice in Pirate Empires disguised as an effective defense of the Realm. When the Monarch serves the people as the defense against internally destructive behaviour like the fossil fuel extraction without paying realistic compensation.. (dunno what to say).

So the budget is more of the “just barely enough” kind of thing labor have been doing with every policy……wonderful, glad labor have gone for the lowest amount of effort possible whilst applying bandaids to every problem in hopes the problems fix themselves…..

Hardworking Australians again end up facing the brunt of the economy.
    1. Not rebates but Electricity and gas prices to be reduced for local consumption if you are producing it in the country.
    2. Enable house construction with zero deposit for FHB's
3.Reduce Investment loans on existing homes and promote investor loans for construction
4.Reduce tax further for people under 250K per annum, so people can use the money to invest back in the economic growth
5.Provide better loans for business and entrepreneur loans for small scale industries
    6. Last but not least- does Tax payers or hardworking have no say in the tax ? We elect them but they end up hurting us and taking away our hard earned money.

The Federal Government's surplus is the private sector's deficit. Conversely, the Federal Government's deficit is the private sector's surplus. In other words, what the Federal Government spends, but doesn't tax back, is our savings. It's what enables us to buy goods and services. 🙂

This discussion is an echo chamber. Most of the comments made by Greg and Richard was nonsense, in my opinion. Why doesn't the Australia Institute invite debate and discussion by having a counter argument.
