Excellent. A totally new series to me. I live in South Africa, and there was much British TV that we did not see in the in the 70s for various reasons, one of which is the fact that TV broadcasts only started here in 1075, and then the broadcasting hours were somewhat truncated. Full-time TV started in 1976, British comedy is unsurpassed. I've just watch all 8 episodes of season. Roll on season 2!
@@georgebuller1914 LOL It's true, an ancestor of mine tuned into SATV to watch the 1666 cup final but missed the first half, luckily later that evening they showed the tapestries

@@frankshailes3205 you are missing my point the end of season one is christmas 1955 and there at skelton. When season 2 starts there still at Skelton and even into season 3 and there all in 1955. In fact season 4 and 5 are set in 1955 to.
Religious meetings would have been compulsory in 1955 !! Especially at Christmas !There wouldn't have been just one Airman who just decided to go because he felt like it and the others didn't !!
@@nigelward5452 It was in 2003 when I was in Bosnia ! We all had to attend the Remembrance Sunday religious service and the Christmas Service . Didn't matter what religion you were ! We could only get off it ,if we were on active duties ,like guarding the front gate or on a driving detail .
My dad was in the RAF in the early 1950s he loved this programme mainly because he was a bully like the corporal. He bullied his little brother, his wife and his children. Get Some In!
I well know that one, the bloke my mother lived with was like that. Well he went up before the beak and got off with both times of charges of interfering with young girls, the sod.
Me too Corky, if only my generation had a better overview I would have, I did consider it but bailed, I left school in '86 without a clue what I wanted to do but I thought somewhere I'd find my feet, I didn't realise a 'permanent job' was already a thing of the past, to think by now I might have some tight friendships with the 'old gang' and perhaps a pension to look forward to, not to mention a few good pics of myself looking all smart and proud for the sideboard, it might just be wishful thinking tho, the way they treat ex-servicemen these days is atrocious, plus I don't relish the ideas of fighting someone elses wars (which was my reasoning back then too), maybe we dodged a bullet, literally lol
I should have said, I volunteered (for the Army) as a 16 1/2 year old in 1978 and completed 22 years colour service. Pperhaps it's ''rosy-coloured spectacles' and all that, but the late 40's and 50's have always seemed to be 'my era'.
This may only be a comedy show but empty pews in a church at Xmas time in 1955 is pretty close to reality as Brits seem to reject the hypocrisy and nonsense of religion even back then. There's hope for Britain yet.

Just found this show and haven’t stopped watching it !!
I've watched these a few times and I never get sick of them.
Good old fashioned British comedy
Its a great series isn't it
My Dad was in the RAF, he bombed Berlin, the Germans were furious, but it was 1955, so I’m not surprised they were mad at him…!!😹😺
My Uncle downed more Messerschmidts than anyone else.
He was the Luftwaffe’s worst mechanic😁

In my experience even Atheists sit through Church Parade!
how long are they in training for, last episode was set in march. Now it is Christmas....a lot of back flighting going on there,,,,....lol
What I don't understand is season 2 and 3 are still 1955
@@martynlloyd4194 Each episode is only about a week or two since the previous one.

A great comedy show
Great Cast
Although I was in the army 15 years after national service had ended, certain aspects of Corporal Marsh seem very familiar!

Yes, compulsory religious crap and it continued for decades.
Still was early 80s

Didn't make any difference what religion you were,if you said you were agnostic or Jewish you were on fatigues!
Thank you from 2024 - Better than anything they produce these days.

We had a Flt Sgt Dave Ruddock, the screaming Skull, who we always hid from!
Is Mary the same gal that was Lilly in Nearest and Dearest? It looks like this was produced later, but she looks younger!
I am certain she is. Same voice and eyes etc
It is, it's Madge Hindley
