Thanks for the video…I was an AC air traffic controller there from ‘83 to ‘85. I have great memories of that place. I lived off base in Luquillo. What a great time that was!!
Did you by chance know of a guy named Kermit Upshaw? He was there from about 1980-1983 and Luquillo was his favorite beach. He was my brother. Was this the only naval base in PR in the early 80s? He passed in 2014 and on the 10 year anniversary this December our entire family is going to spread his remains out in the ocean
Wow thank you. My barracks was up by the OBA or old bowling alley across from the galley. It was closest to the cliff where there were stairs that went down to the road below. I walked those steps for more than a year going to and from work at PSD that was between the enlisted beach and the causeway. I loved it there. The peace and serenity were unbeatable. I sure miss Roosey.
I remember the stairs.. Right behind the female BEQ. Took a tumble down them after 1 too many from Roosy's E-club. Luckily the pole holding up the rail stopped my further plummet. Felt it the next day. But hell, we were in our early 20's. Bullet proof and invincible... At least after several rum and cokes.
@@spvideo68s that video up yet? I'd LOVE to see it with the stairs I stumbled up and down in many occasions. Thank you so much for posting these videos! ❤
Thanks! You grabbed a shot of my old room on the third floor, 302. It used to be {1973\74} for Dental. I have a shot off the end of the hallway looking out to bay. thanks again. Maybe next time you can go in.
Awesome Sam. You keep brining the memories back. Those look like the old TAD BEQ, next to the Gally where all the squadrons would stay while training. In 1984 permanent stationed personal (enlisted) lived across the road. Directly across the street from the galley. We were on the same road as Roseys E-club. As you made that long sweeping right to the top of the hill you had the same view of Vieques as the place you were just at. The ladies had the best view, and fortunately our "Mod" had a great view of Vieques as well. I was attached to the Weapons Dept. So we occupied Mod 203 A-D. I loved being stationed there and plan to visit the island within this year. It'll be a bit surreal to step foot on the base in its current form. But these videos you keep uploading take me back. Thanks again Sam! Seriously, you really are doing the base an amazing honor... God Speed brother!
Thanks for watching and for the info. Yes these buildings are the ones you describe next to the galley. The other buildings will be covered in another video since I already scouted the area. The E-Club building is burried in bushes and I could not identify it but I did find what I think was Chicken Jose’s on that same road.
Right on! . I have looked up the base on Google earth and it looks like the e-club and beq are under some serious brush. Be careful and stay safe. Truly enjoying these videos. God Speed brother!
I was fortunate to be able to visit Roosevelt Roads maybe 10 times over a few years in the 1990's. As a DoD civilian, my options for lodging were a bit more open than for most people stationed there. I stayed in the BOQ a few time and at the Navy Lodge (basically a hotel) once. At that time, the Navy Lodge there was considered the best one in the world - or so I was told. Forgive me if you have already covered any of these locations, but I would love to see what the BOQ (the complex included to Officer's Club also if I am not mistaken) and the Navy Lodge. Thanks for sharing your videos with us all. Even though I was only there for about 1 week at a time on each visit (mostly in the AFWTF building), watching your videos brings me back - and also makes me so very sad to see what has it has become. One last thing, does anyone know what became of the AFWTF operations after they shut the base down? Thanks again.
Thanks for watching, yes I will be covering the BOQ and Navy Lodge in another video so stay tuned subscribe if you haven’t so you don’t miss the next one.
It looks like those were the temporary nicer barracks and the older permanent barracks were across the street. The galley should be around there too if I remember correctly.
There was a small chapel inside one of the barracks building, did you happen to run across that? Also, I would love to see what’s left of the fuel pits.
Thanks for watching, I did not come across the chapel you mentioned maybe because I only entered one building. When you say fuel pits you are talking about the fuel tanks on the hill across from the docks?

I think it may have been a stripper club as well. I remember walking to that place a few times. Don’t remember the walk back as much.
Looks more like a motel than enlisted men’s barracks. I’m guessing these barracks replaced the Bundy EM barracks. Do you ride those roads on a mountain bike or a road bike? Funny seeing that street light pole being enveloped by the jungle. I guess Nature has the last laugh.
I guess the old Bundy EM barracks cannot even be seen by now. There were 5~6 barracks there at one time. I was there 63 -65, 2 years, 8 months. My barrack was right across from chow hall. Ate many a good meal there then.

Thank you for your videos. Have you included any of the air traffic control tower?

@@lauriewood511 yes that video is already posted. It is Titles Roosevelt Roads Permanent Barracks.
When I was there in 78-79 there were no stairs, I did manage to go down those cliffs on my face one time.

The galley was directly across from barracks when I was there in 63 to 65.
@@stancohen7701 yes the building is still there.
@@stancohen7701 These buildings should have been built sometime in the late 70’s
Thank you for the video. Do you have any footage of Camp Moscrip berthing? I was on deployment there in 93-94 with NMCB7.

Cool
Hey do you have a video of the Old Surface Operations Building?
Not inside of it yet but I will do it soon.
@@spvideo68 Kool I will keep an eye out for the videos.
The fuel pits were located about midfield near the active runway.
Ok, I would do some resarch to see if they are still reachable.

There were two bars right outside of Roosey the one in Gate 3 was called Papa Joe’s it was a strip club and outside gate 1 was Don’s Light House.
Looks more like a motel than enlisted men’s barracks. I’m guessing these barracks replaced the Bundy EM barracks.

There in 96. Those were officer barracks. Yes, we did have maids, even the enlisted.

Sammy you should offer for sale Tee shirts with Roosevelt Roads printed on them. I'd buy one. Just an idea.
Thinking about it! I did some keychains but cannot promote or sell anything thru the channel until I get 3,000 watch hours 🤦🏻♂️.
What year were these barracks built ? Also location ?
Not sure when they were built. Location for these is before the NEX complex.
