  • Hello fabulicious sisters! The comment I received most when I told my family and friends that I was no longer going to dye my hair, was that I was going to look old. Since I couldn't care less to look old as I decided to accept myself whichever which way I was going to be henceforth, I took no offence to such comment. However, on my journey to grow out my grey hair, many women comment to me that they fear to look old. In this video I expose the reasoning that if you feel confident of yourself you will never look old.
Styling and allure rather than fashion is what this channel is about. It's about concept rather than precise store purchase.
But mostly it's about acknowledgement and acceptance of one-self, being an independent woman unrestraint from anyone's opinion and ultimately assurance, esteem and self-love. How does this sound to you?
If you are looking for this kind of support well you just subscribed to the right channel.

I'm 30 in a couple months, and I've been greying since I was 10 years old because my Psoriasis hauls the pigment out of my hair. A couple years ago I decided to let my grey grow out. Not just because I wanted my hair to heal, but because I had moved out and it was getting expensive to even box dye. Plus... girls my age are spending hundreds to get their hair grey, and I was curious how mine would look natural.
Honestly, I get more compliments on my hair now than ever before. Everyone thinks I dye it. It's loads of fun, and no one thinks I look older. It also doesn't affect my dating life at all. I've been my natural brown, blue, black, teal, red, and purple. It doesn't matter. They either like you or they don't. Rock the grey and love it!

Saludos.

I agree 100 percent! I get more compliments now than I ever did when I colored. Even if people have negative things to say in regards to looking my age, I don’t care. This is my hair. I HAVE lived. I am thriving. I like seeing myself in this way. Love to you, as always. ❤️

I will be 51 in July. I am so inspired by your videos to go natural. For 14 years I have not seen my natural hair color. I was so concerned with covering the gray that I didn’t take the time to really ask the question why am I doing this, other than not to look “ old”. What a sad state our mainstream society lives in, when both men and women accept the label of looking/ being old at such young ages,30+ years old. I believe, with people such as you, changing our minds one person at time, this stigma will be let go.
Here I go, embracing my natural color and loving myself more than ever🦋🌸💜Thank you so much for inspiring!

The answer is yes. Every person looks older with grey hair, both men and women. But if you feel good about yourself and don't care about people's opinions it's great! I will dye my hair when it turns gray, no matter what and till the day I die because I really don't like the way it looks))

I agree, I think my gray/silver compliments my skin tone much better than dye. I love it and I'm so happy to see my natural color again, it finally matches my brows. My hairdresser is even considering letting her natural white come out. I only wish I could wear my hair long so I could see more of the gray, but I'll have to accept I can only wear short because I have petite facial features and length overpowers my face. You look fabulous and you have a great personality.

This haircut on you is the thing that suits you and im saving this video to my gray hair transition on here :)
Im using a temporary root powder in brown which when i put my hair in a bun really disguises the gray.
Ill be a year in in November but I prob have another year to go! Love your look!!

A woman came to my office who let her grey come in. The way it came in looked like highlights and almost like she had it done that way. It looked beautiful. Thats how mine grows in..like its highlights so I am considering doing it. (Her hair was as dark as mine). I feel it makes you look younger because if you look young for your age, the grey hair kinda does what we call a junxtaposition. Hard to explain. You look fabulous!

My story is similar. Since Feb 2015 (last dye job), I got 1/4 of grey week after dye job. Left it alone, since July of 2015, hubby told me my hair will be beautiful totally natural (no relaxer or dye). Salt and more pepper, but salty strands reach to length of my hair. Does look like highlights.

I could not imagine you quiet 😷 That's like if my Husband told me to be quiet. He knows it's just not going to happen 😂 He has learned the fine art of tuning out my constant talking but loves me just as I am. I'm now 6 months into my grey hair and love it at 43. He actually said the other day. Your still the same girl I met all those years ago. It was the sweetest thing he has said in years. Anyway I think you are fab Elisa and by far my favourite on UA-cam. You look so vibrant and gorgeous x

You are such an inspiration for me! I am currently growing out my hair. I chose to cut it very short in order to transition. The dyed ends are gone and I am completely silver-but-still having to be patient while growing out my rather awkward staged pixie-ugh!
But I know eventually I’ll get there 😆 I do think I need to try and up my style game...i think that would help me to feel better. You are one stylish lady and I appreciate you sharing your journey with us and for all your encouraging videos! Thank you ❤️

This is the most positive, inspiring video I have seen yet on transitioning to grey. I'm not sure if I'm ready yet but watching videos like yours helps with my process. My mom died last year at age 81 and she colored her hair her whole life! I have been wondering what I will do...I see both women with colored hair and grey hair who are older than me and I like both. I have natural henna applied at a salon to color my hair and it is a mixture of shades to imitate my original hair color. What is nice is that it's transparent like watercolor and the grey shows through as lighter anyway so I am thinking if I transition might look like your balayage. Thank you so much for this video. You look gorgeous and you are a delight!

You are blessed with lovely gray and lovely dark hair in contrast. Also, this cool hair colour is very flattering for your skin tone. I grew out my grey (front and top) but it was not flattering. My natural hair colour is lighter than yours; my hair is very fine so the hairline was invisible making my hairline look bizarrely high; I am very pale and my entire head - face and hair - was the same colour, not a good look. Hair chalk (actually chalk pastels ;0) helped - teal was a favourite. So, after about 18 months I went back to tinting the grey to a blonde, especially around the hairline, and leaving the natural dark hair as it is. The important thing is, as you know, that you feel free to do whatever works for you. You look fantastic!

I am really glad I found your channel. I must have found it around the time I was going to transition because I was going through You Tube channels to bolster my confidence to do it. I remember showing my hairstylist your video at one point.
9 months later, I haven't had anyone say anything critical about my hair. In fact about 2 weeks ago one of the guys in my meetup group who is 36 told me that I looked younger than my age and he thought most likely I had been hit on by some of the younger men in the group. He is one of my regulars who sometimes doesn't have a filter but it worked in my favor this time. I am not really around men my age(mid 50s) to know if they have a different opinion. I am not even sure if most men notice changes right away.
It will be hard at first unless you are one of those people who are completely fearless. On several occasions I wished I could be one of those women who completely shaved their heads so I wouldn't have any transition but I knew I wouldn't be happy with that, I could barely tolerate a bob. Now most of the time I forget about my hair unless I catch a glimpse of in a public restroom mirror. That is really when I see the grey and it surprises me. On my confident days I take it in stride. On my low days I think wow how old I look. On those days i just have to realize my brain is playing tricks on me.
If think if we perceive ourselves as old then that is what we will reflect to others. And frankly at 57 i am physically old. But I have noticed in other older women, that if a person has a sparkle I forget she has wrinkles on their face and see the young person inside. I think it is about not trying to cover up how old I am but to own it and make it work for me. That is something I work on every day because it isn't something that comes easy for me.
Good luck to anyone who is deciding to start transitioning. You might panic along the way and that is ok. You might dislike your hair if you get it cut short. You might get frustrated with your hair growing to slow. But the end of the day it is just hair. There are so many other things of much more importance to cherish and hold dear. And you will find out who your true friends are when you become your real self. Being in my 50s has been the time to weed out the people and things that do not serve me. It is about being the true person we were meant to be.

I can totally relate to your well put words. Weeded out a lot of people too, thinking about new projects work wise and so on. It's just: I just cannot get used to my new look (transitioned during the same time you and Elisa did too).Tried new makeup, different clothes, I feel I just look so "tired", every time I look in the mirror. I haven't received any positive responses either, only either estranged "looks" without saying anything (you know when somebody "thinks" his/her part) or "Ok, so this is a big and courageous step!" from closer friends. No, I don't want to depend on critique from the outside, but as I am a freelancer in a quite young surrounding, I definitely am the old one now - I am 50, always looked younger without trying - most of us do anyway nowadays!! And I do experience this "not being there" thing suddenly, that I never understood before, when older women talked about it.
Thought I was done with the "hair-color-thing" finally, but am about to cave in. Ironically I felt more courageous and selfsecure during this awkward transitioning phase!

    • @lifetobelived9102
      @lifetobelived9102 6 років тому +3

I hit those points too. It usually hits me when I am about to go to my meetup I organize. Every single time when I start to get ready for the meetup while I am picking out my clothes, putting on a small amount of make up and blow drying/styling my hair which I rarely do it hits me I am old. Not really old but old then I sit there and have a dialogue with myself until I hit the door to go to my car. I just realized all those things require me to look into the mirror which I don't do much.
Being 57 in a group where most of the members are 40 to 20 something makes life interesting but also reminds me of my age and that things aren't so firm any more or I don't have the same energy but even when I was 20 I had a limited amount of energy. I can talk myself into a very deep hole. It isn't the members who are doing it to me I am. One of the men challenged me to sit on his motorcycle for pictures one time because he deemed I didn't have an adventurous side. I had been nagging about going over 100 on the highway so this was his pay back. I did it as well as the other women who were there from 20 something to 50s. Not all comfortable but the other 50 something woman talked me into it.
I think the trick it to think about what qualities do we as women in our 50s have that are unique. I was watching a Japanese drama where an older woman(not as old as us) was being mentored by a man on how to successfully get a man. She was sort of an all business woman and didn't really date. One thing he said after he observed her on a date in his restaurant was don't be submissive or passive in your conversations. Don't go out of your way to act on all his needs like pouring a cup a tea, etc. He said do what older women do well be intelligent, joke playful and challenge his thinking. There is something that comes with age that we forget we have or maybe we never had it but we can embrace it:
We are intelligent people. We have knowledge either from books and/or life experiences.
We've learned what to take seriously and what to let go.
We know that men are more fragile than young women realize. We don't have to coddle them but we know that our words can be sharp and cutting so we must use them wisely.
We are usually more intuitive and we know who to trust and not to trust. That makes us wise counsel.
We know that we don't have to compete with other women all the time whether it be socially or in business. and the good ones we need to hold dear and support no matter what age they are.
When we are around young people we have a different view compared to those who are only around 50 year olds and older. We can pull from what they know about the world and we know they have value even if they are young.
Men listen to older women especially quite a few younger men. They are fascinated by the fact they can interact with a woman in a different way without any pressure and they don't disengage. I've talked to younger men for hours and even given them and out and they don't take it.
We have a sexy that it is different. Sometimes we have to pull down from deep inside to find it but it is there. Hormones, exhaustion. low self esteem from aging gets in the way many times. The sexy has to come from building confidence through knowing we are good enough(that one is hard for me), people liking us is not a fluke, we don't have to care what people think about us, and we have to sort of put on a strut. Kind of fake it until we believe it. I have to remember when I walk into a room that I belong no matter how old or young the people are. That is hard because I follow the Korean music scene like kpop, korean rap and rock and going to concerts at first was a struggle but now there is an older women and a few older men kpop fan posse starting. I don't think we have to act younger than our age but we can do things that might be deemed inappropriate for our ages.
We have to remember while the second half is over we have a new second half starting(stole that from a you tube channel)

I am doing this now. It is difficult. However, I have noticed that if women look healthy meaning a healthy glow to the skin, nice teeth, eat right, if they maintain a nice body weight they don't look old. That said it can still be a challenge but it is also wonderful to no longer mess around with dyes and bleach or that horrible grey line that comes in so fast after dying the hair.

Awwww way cool, dear :) Well from my experience all hair is beautiful as long as one is happy with it. Dyed, natural, curly, wavy, blow dried, air dried. As long as the person takes care of it to assimilate one's essence it's an automatic 10 on 10 in my book :)

Matilda I am honoured that such a young person like you even watches me!!! Thank you so much :) I am also happy to hear that you are going to stick to your natural colour which at this age just simply glows. Dye is made to give a glow to hair that no longer does due to aging. Of course it doesn’t work. Other less invasive and natural products do, like oils, massages and CERTAINLY a good diet and healthy life attitude. I wish you to always strive for YOUR best all your life; body (healthy eating and exercise habits), mind (education or reading), spirit (healthy and helpful attitude ie love yourself). God bless beautiful :)

Aww Thank You so much for the shout out!! Recently an old friend (male) said, “I like your new color.” I responded with a smile, “You mean the absence of color.” Just yesterday I was talking with my ex....you know what? I’m gonna save the story for a video 😍😍😘😘

I think that is sad that a lot of people think that as a woman gets older she is sexless, walking around in a huge long flower dress, short haired, and not enoying life anymore. Now I am more mature I appreciate life more than I did when I was younger, I enjoy my body more now, I feel like a real woman now.
You look great, and I love that sexy dress on you! Keep it going.

I too am 62 and I have been highlighting my hair for the transition but young girls tell me they love my hair. I love my look at first I did feel uncomfortable but I am being me and I love it. I look younger and don’t act younger than my age it’s only a number but not a look, awesome !!!!

I feel you look younger and even prettier with the gray hair and what I've been noticing when I look at so many pictures of women with gray hair is that when their face still looks young it looks to me like they look prettier and younger with the gray hair than they did with the colored hair. I only wish I'd really noticed this prior to this point in time because I'm basically just starting this now. I truly wish I'd come to regognize this two or three years ago because I would have done it sooner if I had and I'd look Rockin' right about now! (Just like you do!)

Have any of you girls thought of GOING BACK to coloring after transitioning? - Elisa, I really LOVE your new hair color,, you look gorgeous! And I also adore your thick hair, it looks so healthy! I transitioned during the same time as you did, just let it grow out (from dark brown hair). My lightest, almost white "parts" are in the front upper middle now, not so much on the sides or the back (mousy salt and pepper fine hair there : /). And as a part of it falls into the face kinda like long bangs (I wear a short bob, my best option), it makes me look quite washed out. I tried new makeup, different colors in clothes, I cant find something that really helps with this rather boring and tired look now (its not the cut but the color). Feel "homesick" to my old color. Maybe I just have to hang in there longer... Don't want to give up after this hard year now, but am about to. Maybe some other women reading along here are going through the same "thing"?

Hi beautiful. I do hope that others can answer you. If you follow my channel I think by now you know what I will answer and that is BE HAPPY. DYE YOUR HAIR, wear a wig, wear extensions, whatever but do something other than being naturally grey. There is absolutely nothing wrong with dying your hair. I stopped dying because it no longer made me happy. If it still did, believe me, I would still be dying my hair. My channel is about accepting what you have wether it's hair, body, mind set, etc. But if you are not happy then you have the responsibility to make yourself happy and everyone else should respect you for it. Girls, please write down your thoughts on this.

Thanks, Elisa. I guess I am so into the "natural-gray-trip" meanwhile that other options just felt "wrong". Well, they might be fussier, but you're absolutely right: everything is possible! Going to have a chat with a hairdresser/colorist now, just to hear what she thinks of my plans, if my hair will take color well at all anymore and so on. Will sort out the options : )

Elisa, you look amazing!! I especially loved the style with bangs on you. I'm embracing my "glitter" (grey hair) while it's changing from black to grey. I do have some silver mixed in, but not much. I have an olive complexion and to me, my grey makes my skin look dull, lifeless. I'm thinking of adding more silver to brighten my skin tone. Thanks so much for this video! xo ♥

Hi Lisa, as a natural grey, I too feel as if I wouldn't be dateable...I lost all my hair through chemo, and it used to be long dark curly hair. Every 3 weeks I would have to dye it. Since its grown back I have decided to embrace the grey, but I worry about dating.....I worry that my naturally curly hair, which I straighten occasionally, makes me look old.....but you have anwered all my questions....thank you!...great video ❤

This morning I cleaned out my bathroom.😓. Threw away the bleach, toners, developers, products for brasiness, etc etc. Going grey. I'm tired of bleaching to blend the grey which only turns orange since my hair is dark, thick and curly. No more. I'll be 49, and no one can tell me grey makes you old. I don't accept. I'm nervous yet excited since I'm all white.

I am halfway through this video and just subscribed. I love your personality. I have been non-stop grinning since I started watching this. I am letting my grey hair grow out and I will not be bleaching it because my hair is just too fine and fragile. I am excited about the process, but a little nervous that I won't like the end result. It looks as if I will be salt & pepper, which I think is one of the more unattractive shades of grey, but we'll see what happens. Because my hair is currently dyed auburn, the new growth looks particularly bad. I may have to get a wig, because this is going to be a long process. I am thinking of getting a Brazilian Blowout for my frizzy hair once it is all grown out.

Hi Lisa, there is nothing wrong with dying your hair as long as it makes you happy, dear :) I simply could not take that white line showing up after 4 days having spent $90 and just knowing that in 3 weeks I was going to spend another $90 and to always worry that people were looking at THAT white line. The stress!!!! Today, I have no idea what stress is ... well you know what I mean LOL.. Big hugs beautiful :)
