- The cities of Bucha and Irpin in the Kyiv region were both heavily damaged during the brief but brutal occupation by Russian forces at the start of their invasion of Ukraine. Many houses were completely destroyed or in need of major repairs.

I read the other day in the US a republican senator passed a bill for all things seized in the US to be given as money to Ukraine.
@@cmr81 I hear the US has seized hundreds of billions in assets roughly 300b.. That will be a good chunk to help. Canada and a few other countries are pledging to do the same. I know Canada is in the process and pursuing forfeiture from a company owned by oligarch Roman Abramovich worth 26 million. They will give it to Ukraine once forfeited ✌️

I thought building the city now will have a new edifice with much intense basement cos this war has given us lessons. The basement has helped save more lives.
I’m sure that when physically able, they will follow Finland’s lead in creating shelters for their people in new or newly renovated areas...
If you don’t know how/what has been done there, check it out. They’ve literally got shelter for more than their entire population, with over 50,000 bunkers and 5000 bedrock shelters. In Helsinki alone they can support a million people underground, plus they have the intelligence apparatus to give decent enough warning to ensure people get to a safe space if needed...
All the people living in FREE countries and enjoying what Democracy has to offer have a moral obligation to help and support Ukraine defend itself against the Russian murderers, war criminals, baby killers and terrorists . Putin wants to finish what Stalin started. Stalin murdered millions by starving them to death in Holodomor 1932/33. Now Putin will try and destroy gas / electricity and water supplies to kill Ukrainians.
Putin is now getting arms from the pariahs of the world like Iran 🇮🇷 and North Korea 🇰🇵 and is telling his generals to use the tactics they used in Syria 🇸🇾, well we know that Putin supplied chemical weapons and cluster bombs to Assad to murder his own people.

Notwithstanding the provision of funds for the rebuild of Ukraine, the question I would ponder is how to prevent corruption and nepotism during the rebuild.
There are a lot of European Governments, the EU, the US and their contractors and multi-nationals who would like a piece of the action.
There was/is also endemic corruption within Ukraine particularly by the Oligarchs who will be vying for contracts.
The sheer scale of the rebuild will be staggering.
How can this be managed and more importantly by whom..? 🤔
There is no simple answer to that: What I miss is that we didn't show the initiative yet in spring to practice "simple datcha style garden houses" that are safe and warm for liberated areas. Doesn't help with a skyrise, but it does with the countless houses in small villages. As long as you got 25 sqm with a dry toilet inside and four bunk beds, you can hunker down and do a lot yourself. Then it mostly depends on peace settlement terms anyway, to get a Russian refund.
In short: In today's digital age, putting up pics of before the invasion, after the invasion with destruction and reconstruction, then gathering bills and expenses, can be done easily. That's for the private homes. And then you go by commercial value in the area and bills paid. Some losses, sure, but quite manageable.
As for major infrastructure, same as always: Good accounting to prevent kickbacks. If it's done with foreign funds, well, I would rather pay for their big military hardware, that doesn't get stolen.
"Only" 20% of the country was occupied, power plants are mostly restored by local workers/ full time employess, so if you provide a generator or transformer, it sits where it's used. All it takes is tracking for smaller items...
One piece of hope: With so many dead, folks will WANT to be better than Russia. So that will help. Plus folks and donators will look at it closely...
As for the oligarchs, media laws will be under scrutiny, transport contracts for Akhmetov and the like by the railway company were already changed pre war. Energy will be a hot sector, but there investors are used to it AND the decentralized parts will easier to check for local citizens to prevent graft. They have a very vested interest: If they don't wanna freeze during Russia's next war, it makes sense to have tight control over who builds it how for how much.

The newest images out from Bucha are incredible. 5 months after this video came out, the city has been mostly repaired and looks almost like nothing bad ever happened there. It's incredible how well they built it back. Some homes were even improved by getting new shingled roofing vs their old metal roofing.
Some good news in all this chaos. Love the Ukrainian people. Russians are jealous of you.💞

the problem with rebuilding is that the sand used for construction, the sand used in mixing cement is running out, yes, for sure there is enough to rebuild ukraine, but how much will remain after that is a very good question. there will be a point in time in the very near future where an alternative to cement will be needed to continue to construct buildings.

It is not the world that has to pay for this, but Russia, because Russia is the aggressor. I can only repeat again and again that all of Russia's foreign assets, whether state or private, must be expropriated. This also applies to physical assets such as companies, buildings, machines, cars and ships. Monetary assets immediately transferred to Ukraine and physical assets sold after expropriation and proceeds transferred to Ukraine. Russia will never voluntarily pay reparations, so it has to be enforced.
