Graham, you can also do this using magazines and bed sheets. Tear the bed sheets into 1/2" strips about 36" long. The length depends on the size of the magazine you use for the handles. When you have the sheets braided into rope, tie a knot in one end and roll the first magazine around it. Wrap the magazine in tape to keep it rolled up. Repeat this for the other handle and now you have a set of nunchuks made from sheets and magazines. Keep rocking it dude!!
Jofre Steele however, you're trading power for speed and control. I used wooden nunchakus and they're pretty hard to grip by the ends because of the weight. You kind of want more speed with nuchackus because they already have a pretty strong blow even when gripped near the chain. But it's all style and preference, so I respect your ways.
I guess that the extreme temp-difference would speed up the reaction of the dry ice (to CO2), the gas would cause an explosion-like reaction in the system so the molten metal would spray all over the place...
First of all the nitrogen would probably boil off before the lava's temperature would change much, second of all.. Frozen lava is just solid rock, you aren't going to get water from lava dude... Last time I checked the liquid form of H2O is water not lava.
Just a few suggestions: 1. Never use a soft wood like pine. You risk having the eye bolt unscrewing or the threads stripping out. Use a hard wood like oak maple or ash or hickory. 2. If you can find a swivel hook for the ends of the chain you will also lessen the risk of the threads ripping out. 3. Use some kind of epoxy to lock the bolt threads into the dowels. 3 Standard sizes for Nunchaka are 12" and 14". Anything shorter than that and you are just making toys. 4. Use at least 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" dowels. I prefer 1-1/2" dowels so that I can sand each stick into a 6-sided hex or 8-sided octagon shape with a belt sander. 5. I prefer Rope instead of chain on my Nunchuks. They are slightly harder to make but they have less chance of coming apart while in use and in my opinion are much faster and a whole lot quieter.
Oops, 3 Standard sizes for Nunchaka are 10" 12" and 14" but I guess it's up to the craftsman and the preference of the user. Personally, I like the 12" best. 10" feels too short and 14" feels too bulky and awkward.

Hey Grant! These are fun and remind me of doing similar when I was younger. I have a few suggestions: You might consider an eye-hook at the top that has a swivel, a swiveling top helps avoid the nunchuck/rice flail from catching on its own chain and makes more fluid movement when using them in a flurry You might also want to consider making a recess into the bottom and instead of using a short eye-hook, use a threaded bolt eye hook the length of your working piece, if not a little shorter. Make a recess into the bottom and feed the nut into the bottom, then use the wood itself to tighten the nut. Include either epoxy or wood glue to hold the center threaded bolt in there. The reason why is short eye-hooks tend not to hold up if striking, the dowel breaks and with a smaller eye-hook it can lose its grip on it. I had this experience when using my own. Awesome work, thanks for sharing!
