  • I'd been meaning to pick up this little Nux pedal for ages, and finally managed to find a good deal on a used one.
    Once it arrived and I'd had a chance to play around with it, I knew it was good enough to make a direct comparison with its older cousin! Fortunately, my best mate and fellow 'Noise Merchant', Ben, has a Space Echo and was generous enough to let me borrow it to make this video.
    Hope you enjoy, and please let me know what you make of the Tape Core! How close do you think it is to the original?

    These are the kind of videos I love. A pedal I've dreamed of owning vs one i can easily afford and buy anytime. Only just started watching but this is a fantastic idea for a video and I'm surprised more people haven't compared these two.

      The RE-20 is my best mate's, so I'd been meaning to grab the Nux to make this video for quite a while.
      Glad you found it useful, and will definitely make more videos like this in the future. 👍

      @@PedalExperiments I still want the Boss, but the NuX is a very close second. Like, in a "buy the NuX first, then get the Re-20 later" kind of way.

    • @PedalExperiments
      @PedalExperiments  2 роки тому +4

      That's a solid plan.
      Bear in mind though, that the RE-20 only just recently became discontinued, so the prices might start going up even higher soon...
      ...of course, there's also the other possibility that Boss might be planning to release an updated version, and that's why they've finally ceased production on this pedal?

    Je viens d'acheter la Tape Core pour colorer les bass lines de ma TD-3 et y foutre un delay au cul... Ta vidéo m'a confortée dans l'idée de la prendre. L'idéal pour moi était le Space Echo RE-201, voir le RE-101 mais vu le prix, ça ne restera qu'un rêve... 😂 J'avais ensuite découvert qu'ils en ont faient un sous forme de pédale de guitare, la Space Echo RE-20. Je me suis tout de suite mis en tête de me la procurer ! Puis un jour par hasard je tombe sur une pub de pédales Nux et découvre alors la Tape Core... Lorsque j'ai vu le prix et écouter ce qu'elle donnait, il n'y avait pas photo, je voulais cette pédale ! 🤩

    Back in the good old analog days I played in a band where the guitarist used an Echo Plex thru a 60s Bassman.Then I was in one where the guitarist used a Roland Tape Echo thru a Marshall.Those sounds were inspiring to play with. I play bass and enough guitar to record so I'm going to sell my Flashback and get a Nux.The Boss has more features but not enough for a casual guitarist to justify the price difference.

    Wasn't expecting this to match the boss unit 4 times the price. I've been on the fence with a lot of nux stuff recently. Some new stuff that just came out looks great but my only worry is the build quality. From the comparisons online it's clear they sound great.

      @@PedalExperiments ooh that's almost the same price. Interesting. I do need tape delay and I'm not really into reverb so buying a standalone reverb doesn't make much sense to me rn. I do like to run multiple delays and different types of slapbacks and the modulation stuff on the caverns really intrigued me. Also the modulated wow and flutter sounded pretty cool in the demos. Idc about tap tempo because I already have a DD8 and a crap behringer delay I bought a while ago. I bought that when I didn't know much about effects but my god that pedal surprises me everyday. I'll Defo get a memory man in the future but as of now I'm having way too much fun with that. Btw your demos are great. Thanks for helping me out.

    I just stumbled across this video, very well done.
    I don't suppose you have had a chance to explore the newer Nu-x NDD-7 Space Echo in comparison to the Tape Core Deluxe had you? I'm trying to decide which one to get my brother and I've not found anyone who has used both together.
    I'm off to look at your other Space Echo videos!

    • @PedalExperiments
      @PedalExperiments  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😊
      Unfortunately not, as I sold the Tape Core a little while before getting the NDD-7.
      However, having owned both I can say that they both sound very similar to me. I'm pretty sure the NDD-7 uses the same Space Echo algorithm as their Tape Core Deluxe, so if he just wants authentic sounds in a simple, basic pedal, then the Tape Core is probably the way to go. But personally, I think the extra features of the NDD-7 make it a far superior pedal, and great value for money.
      I've got a video comparing the RE-2, RE-20, and NDD-7. That might be useful for you to watch?
      Cheers!

      @@PedalExperiments - thanks, I ended up getting the Tape Core because it will easily fit on the board and he's not a massive delay fiend. is it possible to get lo fi wobbly tape sounds out of either of these?

    • @PedalExperiments
      @PedalExperiments  11 місяців тому

      No, as these pedals don't have modulation.
      You'd need either the Nu-X NDD-7 Tape Echo or the Boss RE-202 for a tape echo delay that also uses modulation, although if you're looking for lo-fi tape emulation, I'd recommend looking at the Bleak District Electric Tapescape.

      Yeah, I'm sure I didn't get some of the settings exactly right, but I think I dialled them in close enough to tell that they're at least CAPABLE of sounding identical.
      You can add reverb to the Nux via the web editor if you really want it.

    The sound is almost identical, except the Boss RE-20 sounds a bit softer than the NUX. The NUX is a little harsh sounding and if I were recording something that would be a huge difference between the 2 pedals. I usually like to use analog delays for their warmth, and the RE-20 has just a little bit more. Very slight

    Why didn't you turn the reverb down on the RE20 to give a fair comparison of the modes? Turning it up even partway makes the comparison pretty much useless once you get past mode 4 on the Boss.
