I recently picked up my first Murakami book, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, which I'm looking forward to. I pretty much only read science fiction at the moment, but when it comes to classic literature, The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my favourites. I thought the writing was captivating. And yes, the news about Michael was shocking and horrifying.
I had to put down The Picture of Dorian Gray because it was too bleak. Maybe when I'm in a better headspace. That dragon book is beautiful but I don't think I'd like blue ink.
Thanks for the reviews! I've read lots of Murakami books, but not this one. After watching the film adaptation of Norwegian Wood, I found it too depressing to encourage me to read the book. I would recommend 1Q84 and The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle as his two masterpieces. Looking forward to your year-end wrap up.
I'm going to take a break from Murakami, but when I build up the emotional stamina I'm going to try Wind-up Bird Chronicle. You have any end of year videos planned?
@@bookjack Not sure yet, possibly a '2023 in superlatives' video. (I wonder if there's already a book tag out there like that?) Maybe a 2024 reading goals video too.
I dig your bookshelf. Looking forward to the haul video coming up and all the end-of-year wrap up stuff. Not a big fantasy guy myself. I like Sci-Fi, Thriller, Horror, Dystopian mostly, but I will try anything if it's getting good chatter on BookTube (for instance Shark Heart a recent read). Wish you would post a mailing address. I always get the urge to go to my bookshelf and pick out a book to send you when watching your videos...
Wow thanks so much. I have a P.O. box for my eBay store and I'll post it in the next video. I should try for a different secondary genre. Sci-fi & fantasy usually go well together but not for everyone
Thankyou BookJack. I've read two Murakami books, not this one. One was equally "Fever Dream Horny", the other more of just a fever dream. Still found something to enjoy about them though. I often wonder what (if anything) might get lost in translation. I digged the book-put-away final shot!
So Legends and Lattes (Travis Baldree) and Shady Hollow (Juneau Black) are out? Two best books to get you out of a reading slump. I'm reading The Passage (Justin Cronin) now. Heart-wrenching. I think I may try Gardens of the Moon (Steve Erikson) in January.
Loved this! My gf is currently reading Norwegian Wood so cool to get an different perspective and have had Dorian Gray on my shelf for years waiting to be read 😂Now I'm curious who this problematic SF youtuber is. I watch alot of SF booktubers so would be good to know so i can avoid them.
Love the spoiler warning on the introduction. Should be industry standard.
Agreed and it would be so easy to implement

It is a great book, very stylish. Huge downer though which didn't help after receiving the horrifying news
Love your videos, Jack. Always insightful. 🙌
Thanks so much :)
There are a number of new videos out recently about escaping reading slumps.
I’m sure you’ll find one that will help.
Thanks for the reviews.
😺✌️

Glad you put it down when you knew you had to. I usually force myself to finish 😅

That's rough man. I'm glad I mainly go off of suggestions from other people over trying something on my own. I hope you made a quick recovery.
You find hidden gems sometimes, but there's a lot of jank to sift through 😅
@@bookjack Well, I have years of not reading to catch up on, so maybe I'll get to that point someday.
"Doing some unfortunate things" is one way to put it. Looks like he'll have plenty of time to work out and read.
Oof what happened?

Glad you liked it. It's fun to spot the cultural differences when reading Murakami. I wonder if they consider it horny in Japan
@@bookjack that is a key point to consider!

Yeah, who’s this mysterious scifi UA-camr?
😺✌️
Hopefully the book doesn't get your gf too down. I'm talking about Michael Everts. fit 2 b read
5:04 who is BookJack talking about? I feel like i’m going crazy trying to figure it out
Michael Everts. Fit 2 B Read
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke!!
I tried to read that one a few months ago. Maybe I need to be a little more patient with it
Oh you must try again. It's like its own universe, but she wraps it all up in the end. Worth while!
