Discovered your channel today and have been watching your vids all day. I'm starting to get stretch marks on my head due to the swelling of my brain from all the new information you've filled it with. Tyvm from your new subscriber.
I've been a subscriber to your channel for a while now and I love your videos man. I can find almost any info I need from your channel. Very helpful videos done very well. The audio is a bit quiet for this video, however, I didn't personally have any trouble hearing you speak on max volume, but if you could turn your mic volume up a bit in future videos it certainly wouldn't hurt. Again, great informative videos, I love your channel and I recommend it to everyone it may benefit in game.
So I have a question? If it appears penetration is so important, why do I see so many builds from the top 3 or 4 websites/youtube channels that say to use sets that don't include penetration? I am speaking about 4 man dungeons. Alcast PVE 4 man dungeon Meta sets don't include or mention anything dealing with penetration. Thanks for all that you do for the community, much respect.
So to clarify for MagDPS, with some variation of Concentration, Spell erosion, and Spinners. You wanna reach that peak of 18k total penetration for PvE?
Does spell Penetration help in healing? I'm messing around with my healer (high elf/Templar). How can I make my heal spells super powerful? It seems nobody really wants to play as a dedicated healer. I tend to love it. I'm the ONLY dedicated healer in my entire guild. Can you please help a brother out?
Question: At what point do you calculate in the % resistance reduction with the dw mace/2h maul passives? Does the reduction come off the top of the boss's armor value or after all other penetrative values?
Ah, forgot about that passive. That's calculated at the very end. So if you take away 15000 resistances, you're only getting 10 percent from the remaining 3200, not the initial 18200.
i noticed in your video you didnt metnion mauls or maces? can you maybe do a part 2 on that? specifically for lets say a pvp tank? there are times where i feel like the maul is working and other times it is not. Also can you do penetration vs damage shields for pvp? if it even affects damage shields at all or maybe shattering blows? Thanks
Well, idk if you still play or need to know but when you posted this sheilds didn't have resist so pen didn't work but now and days its the exact same as if they didn't have a sheild.
Hi asian how's it going bro? I just stumbled across your channel and find your information very helpful... I started playing since release but stopped since the nerf of Magdks... at the time, I didn't understand why Magdks pull the lowest dps out of all classes and decided to start playing again once they bring them back on summerset patch, that is if they bring them back... I love the Magdks and I pretty much completed almost everything so I really don't want to start over with a new toon. I really need your help to maximize the damage output from this toon if possible... I just learned about spell penetration from this video and going back to vma to try to get the flame staff... I'm currently using 5 bsw and 4 md with zaan set... is there something better out there? And how should I set my cp? I've seen people pulled 45k+ dps with a magdk and I'm only doing 30k without ma weapon am I doing something wrong? Please help! From your new subscriber...
With Summerset, the best gear combo is going to be Siroria with BSW. If you don't have Siroria, then you can do something like Silks of the Sun, Acuity, or even Julianos. Moondancer is also a good option too, though kinda RNG dependent. In terms of CP, it's going to largely depend on what debuff sets you have available in your trial. You want to hit the pen cap of 18200 with the Lover or Spell Erosion CP, so figure out how much you need to put into Spell Erosion to get to cap and decide if you want to run the Lover (4196 with all divines) or the Apprentice instead.
t3hasiangod thanks so much bro! I just did almost 35k on my magdk! That spell erosion definitely nailed it haha! Oh and I went to cyrodiil yesterday with a friend and his group, one of his friends told me to get the elf bane set just to mess around with... turns out it increases all your flame damage by 2 seconds and also affected the zaan set so now it's a 7 second proc instead of 5... since it comes in heavy armor, I used the jewelries instead but I still need the staff for it... do u think its a good combo with siroria? Or can someone test it? Thanks again!
On a MagDK, it's not a bad choice. There are some disadvantages with using it though. Since it is heavy armor and the 5-piece is a static effect, you'll want it as your body set, meaning you'll need to use 3 jewelry and 2 body pieces. This means you can't do 5/1/1, so you're losing out on 2 percent additional Max Magicka. It does mean you gain some additional survivability though. Because of this, you have to pair it with a proc set on your front bar. This will usually reduce the overall effectiveness of the proc set (e.g. BSW will have lower uptime), though with Siroria, this isn't as big of a deal as it is right now due to how long the proc lasts. But overall, it's not a terrible choice, though other combinations do pull a little bit higher overall.
t3hasiangod that makes perfect sense... damn I thought I had something going on there haha! Unless they change the 2handed weapons to count as 2 set pieces, that'll never work... and I still would have to give up the ma staff anyways if anything... thanks bro! Guess I'll go with bsw and siroria
Penetration works exactly the same in PvP, just using player resistances instead of the 18200 resistance for NPCs. Every 660 resistances count for 1 percent mitigation, so every 660 penetration you have is reducing the percent mitigated by 1 percent.
No. Penetration cannot be translated into a hard number. It is translated as a percentage. Every 660 resistances is 1 percent damage mitigation, up to 50 percent mitigation. Every 660 penetraion is 1 percent damage dealt.
Jarad C Typically speaking, for PvP, you'll want a decent amount of penetration and weapon damage. Most PvPers go with nirn or infused weapons. For PvE, you'll want to get as close to cap as you can, so factor in your debuffs and things and make up the difference using things like the Lover, Sharpened weapons, or CP. For PvE, you can usually hit penetration cap without sharpened weapons.

As always Your video content is fresh and explain the minute details that no one else touches upon the way you do. Great job!!!
Thank you for telling me what physical penetration is...ive been looking everywhere and found little to no results

Thanks for the info. New to the game and didn't know about Solo sets and group sets. Sound was incredibly low.

You should be getting to the penetration cap via debuffs from the tank.

Yep. Between all the buffs and debuffs, you want to hit 18200 penetration

No. Spell Penetration does not increase the amount of healing you do.
My favourite stat
How do u get your attribute bar to be on one side?
You have to use a UI add-on like Bandit's or LUI
What about formula? What number of penetration equal to stamina or weapon damage at the end of damage?
Penetration is not directly comparable to Stamina or Weapon Damage, as the percent increase in DPS varies slightly as penetration goes up or down.

Also mauls have 20% pen so just add 1k penetration for every 5k resist the enemy has
How can you count how much penetration you actually are running? Do you have to add gear plus the cp??
Add gear + buffs + debuffs + CP. Some addons will automatically calculate your personal penetration, but you'd still have to add in debuffs yourself.

Question: is there a penetration cap against players in Battlegrounds or nonCP?
No, as players can get much higher resistances than the 18,200 that PvE mobs have.
You didn't bother stating the dps increase of penetration vs raw damage in solo play or compare 2 damage sets to 1 damage/1pen or 2 penetration sets.
Without using a calculator to add everything up, how do I know how much penetration I actually have in a character?
You have to add everything together manually or download an addon like Combat Metrics or Harven's Extended Stat Window.
Very helpful, finaly i found my mistake over 18k. Thank you so much
can we get a TLDR for this?
What about in PVP?
Penetration works exactly the same in PvP, just using player resistances instead of the 18200 resistance for NPCs. Every 660 resistances count for 1 percent mitigation, so every 660 penetration you have is reducing the percent mitigated by 1 percent.
t3hasiangod unbuffed I'm at 9900 penetration..what will hit harder that or weapon damage? Like nirnhoned weapon or sharp?
660 penatration equals 100 damage???
No. Penetration cannot be translated into a hard number. It is translated as a percentage. Every 660 resistances is 1 percent damage mitigation, up to 50 percent mitigation. Every 660 penetraion is 1 percent damage dealt.

I thought this was going to be sex talk for geeks
Cool for cool.
Does spell penetration help the taunt effect of ice staff?
No
