Hi Jim Just open our dear dad's Sony TC 530 Reel to Reel and finding that the speed is off. We want to get it working because my grandparents and parents recorded messages back and forth to each and we want to listen and maybe digitize the voice recordings.
Your closing remarks sound like my reasoning for giving my tc-530 to good will, One channel had too much hissing noise and I didn't have any good reason to keep it, except that my elderly mom occasionally asked if I still had it since she bought it for me some 50 years ago.
Well, we were able to get the Sony TC 530 on, it goes forward and rewind, the speed seems to be off a bit. Even tried all the speed settings. Any suggestions? The sound was screechy and slow at the same time.
OK Jim..im stumped..been watching your old RCA 65U series, (the guillotine), and oddly in Part #7, you have a completely different turntable, arm and changer, did I miss something? I actually hoped to see if you knew a way to lift that old arm up to inspect the cartridge but alas you had a whole different set up.

Could you upload the entire reel to reel of that radio stuff? sounds neat
