Am I the only one who thinks the saxophone at the end of "I Wanna Go Back" is a bit overdone? I've always found it jarring when vocals and instruments are competing simultaneously for the attention of the listener. It'd be like if the lead guitarist of a heavy metal band starts shredding while the vocalist is still singing. "I Wanna Go Back" is a perfect song until the outro, when the saxophone starts trampling on the vocals.
I saw him, at a small venue, in the late 90’s or early 2000’s. He was great. Classic hard rock and roll. He was a working-class kid, originally named Eddie Mahoney.
Oh Eddie got damn near over his head with this woman!!!!! You need to watch the video and you will understand. Priceless!!!! RIP Eddie!!!!! A great performer and singer for an ex NY cop 👮♀️ So says Austin Tx!!!!! 😎🍸
First saw Eddie money at the Agoura ballroom West Hartford. Connecticut In the 80s. Then saw at the casinos here in Connecticut. He must like Connecticut because he was here a lot .
Shakin' was a staple of local bar bands back in my young adulthood. I rank it second in the trinity of indispensable Eddie Money songs. You'll have to check out number three, Take Me Home Tonight, and number one, I Think I'm In Love. All are great rock songs.
Love the Money Man. I saw him in concert in the early 2000's and got to meet him after the concert. He engaged the crowd so well and was such a down to earth guy. He has so many great songs to check out. I Wanna Go Back is a great song about him looking back on his younger days. Others are Endless Nights, Friends, Think I'm In Love, Walk On Water and Peace In Our Time. RIP Eddie.
Eddie was not only a damn fine singer, songwriter and rocker but a nice guy, after one of the 3 times we saw him, he came out to the merchandise table and held court, signed autographs and just had a great time with his fans. Always a good time and many great songs, try Two Tickets to Paradise, it Rocks! 🎸
Truth! He did the same thing after a free show at a park in NY. I bought my gf a shirt and he autographed it *The Money Man* and hung out with everyone for while.. He was very cool!
I grew up on Eddie Money. And also, in the video for this song, the breathtaking Apollonia Kotero made her first appearance, and ultimately it's what led to her getting the part playing Prince's girlfriend in "Purple Rain".
Wife here..Wow..Grew up with the music of Eddie Money..Amazing catalog...Loved This song!! Saw him in 2000 with Styx and REO Speedwagon..He was great..My Husband met and talked with him..Nice guy..This video is mega cool..Love Your Reaction! I would call this eighties pop rock..or classic.
"Shakin'" was a hit for Eddie Money in 1982, and it's a perfect example of a not-Top 40 hit that's become a classic. It peaked at #63 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of 1982, though it performed considerably better on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, where it peaked at #9. The following is a list of Eddie Money's 11 Top 40 hits: "Baby Hold On" (#11 in 1978) "Two Tickets To Paradise" (#22 in 1978) "Maybe I'm A Fool" (#22 in 1979) "Think I'm In Love" (#16 in 1982) "Take Me Home Tonight" (#4 in 1986) "I Wanna Go Back" (#14 in 1987) "Endless Nights" (#21 in 1987) "Walk On Water" (#9 in 1988) "The Love In Your Eyes" (#24 in 1989) "Peace In Our Time" (#11 in 1990) "I'll Get By" (#21 in 1992) In terms of chart performance, his career seems similar to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Both of them became popular in the late 1970s and created Top 40 hits all the way into the 1990s. Neither of them were superstars cranking out a bunch of mega-hits, but both of them were ever-present on the pop charts with most of their hits peaking in the 10s and 20s, and a couple that broke through into the Top 10.
Hey y'all, someone has already suggested these as well.....''Baby Hold On To Me'', ''Two Tickets To Paradise'', and "Take Me Home Tonight''. These are a must with Eddie Money and will not disappoint. This was very popular in the late '70's! Great reaction!
LOVE Eddie!! We've all been in that mood, that certain mood where nothing scratches that itch like Eddie Money. And boy it feels good to scratch it!! He is just pure uncut good times!
Saw Eddie Money at the time he released his first album and hit single "Two Tickets To Paradise." He opened for Alice Cooper. I had no idea who he was because I was there to see Alice, but Eddie really rocked in concert
Saw him once in downtown Chicago in his red convertible Ferrari wearing only underwear. He looked at me and gave a hand gesture like what the heck you looking at? Then he drove off...license plate said EDDIE. Love his music.
So, I got to see Eddie Money at Cal Expo (at The Rock). A very small venue, really small and outdoors, but I brought my girlfriend and my 35mm SLR camera with telephoto lens and a got some really good pics. This was around 1982. He looked great, youthful. Moved well on stage. It was great. We'll definitely miss him and the band. But the music lives on thank God.
Probably two tickets is his most famous. He had a wild ride from almost being a cop in New York to becoming a Rockstar…alcoholic and coke addict and made comebacks. A tv show with his family…I think he was a very cool guy and very talented playing the Sax. R.I.P. Eddie!
"Take Me Home Tonight" is his biggest hit, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of 1986. "Two Tickets To Paradise" could be his signature song, though.
What Brad is referring to is called the 12 bar blues pattern. It's been around for over 100 years and W. C. Handy is often credited with the first 12 bar hit.
I saw Eddie just a few years before he died at The Des Moines Arts Festival, free concert. Was a fantastic concert and his band was comprised of his own kids. An ex of mine actually met him on the same tour in Custer, South Dakota. He put on a show in a park just a block from her house.
I'll never forget hearing this for the first time when I was a little kid and thinking it was so cool and funny to hear the word "tits" on the radio! There was some juvenile snickering going on 😂
There is a famous outdoor concert venue outside Detroit called Pine Knob. And every year Eddie Money would be the first concert there. Seen him several times. He'll be sorely missed this year.
Seen him in concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland in the 80's, always remember because he was wearing a Baltimore Orioles jersey. Two Tickets to Paradise is really a good one.
I’m …. almost 50+ years old and have listened to that song since junior high and was TODAY’S years old when i saw the lyrics. 🤣🤣. i had no idea what the actual lyrics were… i kinda made up my own. Look at you guys… teaching old dogs new tricks.😂😂. great song and reaction.
That back and forth you're talking about is called Call and Response, and is a basis of blues, and is a big part of blues based rock and gospel. It can be between vocals, instruments, or instruments and vocals.
Saw Eddie at Cayuga County Community College with my boy Stoney who is also gone way to early. Miss you brother and think about you often. We had us some times.💔
When I was a junior in college back in the late 80's, Eddie Money came to perform at the Air Force Academy. I was working stage crew for many of the performers that came to our very small venue, but Eddie's show sticks out for a couple of reasons: 1. I was a HUGE fan of his in high school. 2. He was so high (presumably cocaine++) during his show that he could barely walk, and could never remember the lyrics to his songs. 3. His band had to write the lyrics on big pieces of paper they would attach to the monitors in front of him, and they loved to play tricks on him with what they wrote: "Two Tickets to Paradise" became "Two t*ts and a pair of thighs" "I got real nervous, she took her coat off, she was so pretty" became "I got real hard then, she took her clothes off, she was so horny" etc., etc. Best part was, he sung the songs just like they wrote them, but you couldn't *really* tell unless you were paying extremely close attention.
'80s pop rock. Like Huey Lewis and the News 🎸 yall are right about the bluesy structure. Call and response. "2 Tickets to Paradise" is another good song from him. Its a little older ('70s).
He played back when I was in college at WIU in Macomb, Illinois. His manager was in the local Walmart and met with the manager while there and was asked if Eddie Money would come to the store and have some pictures or video done for an ad. Eddies' manager said, "You really don't want him to do that."....Implying that he would be wasted and not cooperate. That's Rock n Roll.
To pick up the vibes from this song try: EDDIE MONEY: "Heaven In The Backseat" "Boardwalk Baby" "Endless Nights" For upbeat vibes: "Another Nice Day In LA" "Where's The Party?" "Peace In Our Time" "I Think I'm In Love" "Walk On Water" "Trinidad" For straight rockers: "Gambling Man" "Want To Be A Rock n Roll Star" "Life For The Taking" "No Control" "Gimme Some Water" "Can't Keep A Good Man Down" For love/heartbreak: "Save A Little Room In Your Heart For Me" "I'll Get By" "Let's Be Lovers Again" "Fall In Love Again" "Running Back" "Maybe I'm A Fool" Eddie was a music machine through the 70's, 80's & 90's!! He was a journeyman.
I was in the locker room after a work out, and this midget/dwarf guy came out of the showers. When I got back to the office I told my coworker that I just saw a naked dwarf, he replied, "Lucky bastard!"...
I love cruising back in the day listening to this song plus many other cool songs like Jackson Browne Tender Is the Night. Rough trade all touch and their famous song High School Confidential and of course the big log by Robert Plant and anything from ZZ Top Eliminator
I love that Lex is "keeping it real"! It's her honest reaction and that's what we come here to check out. It would be sad if she were to fake get excited about a song. As for Brad, Brad is always somewhere between a 1 and a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10, regardless! 😉
Always liked this video. Maybe because Apollonia played Rosanna in the video, this is before she was in Purple Rain. "I got a little nervous when she took her coat off, she looked so pretty. Ahh yeah". Funny reflection from Eddie Money..."If you look at that video and you see her try to dance, that woman couldn’t dance her way out of a Stevie Wonder movie."
Give it 3 listens and you'll be hooked. Some songs are like that, and you DEFINITELY need to get Lex to LISTEN to the lyrics, cause Brad, she CLEARLY didn't understand what the story was about. We know you did, but we also got to see her facial expression when you asked her if she understood it. She said, "Yeah I did", but then, her facial expression said, "No, I didn't". Anyway, "I" LOVE this song.
My mom was very ill with Alzheimer’s. Eddie Money was coming to town for a concert. I was so excited to see him. I found out my sister had purchased tickets also. She was equally excited to see Eddie. Neither of us had seen him in concert. Such a sad yet sweet story, blessings for your family 😌
I'm really very sorry ; life is always a trtragedy
RIP Eddie. You brought us all so much joy.
Brad & Lex, his "Baby Hold On", "Two Tickets To Paradise" and "Take Me Home Tonight"(ft. Ronnie Spector) are next for you!
You forgot "I think i'm in love"
Big Facts!!!
never gave a crap about baby hold on, always a boring song. yes to two tickets and take me home
He was such a good live performer. Used to go see him at Pine knob music theater in Michigan every summer
Hell Yeah
"I Wanna Go Back" is a great song that brings on nostalgia feels. One of my faves.
Am I the only one who thinks the saxophone at the end of "I Wanna Go Back" is a bit overdone? Eddie Money graduated from my High School. He was a bit before my time, but I do like his music.
Going from a NYPD cop named Eddie Mahoney to being Eddie Money, the Rock and Roll star, was the best career move, Eddie M. ever made.
I think I’m in love…. Take me home tonight!!! His best two songs!
If Lex hears this one she may dig him a bit more.
