- Well I'm busy with school, work and my social life, but was able to make this thanks to it being related to school. So I hope you enjoy this even though it's nothing to do with what I want the direction of the channel to be, it's just there to be well, something.

I put this together for my video art course, for a contextualization assignment, which simply put is to give a different context from to something from its original one. Examples would be Harry Potter as a teen comedy or as one of my classmates did, mixing horrific death in Syria with Mr.Rogers "Won't You Be My Neighbor?".
I began this assignment working on something else but scrapped it after a month, I then I said something along the lines of "fuck it, I am doing Gundam with Jazz", and that is how this came into existence.
I cheated a bit due to Thunderbolt already having Jazz, but really the recontex would be around the song I used mixed with the scenes from Thunderbolt.

I am still busy with everything else in my life, I don't truly have time to sit down, record and then edit a video for youtube that isn't related to my personal life. I still plan on releasing a Mecha Explored Video for Voltron, its script has been finished for some time now. I will finish it before season 2 is released, thanks in part to this semester almost being over.
So yah, if you want to see it whenever I upload it, there's like this little bell thing next to where it says "subscribe", if I'm right it'll give you a notification of whenever I upload something, I think. Because like I said, no idea when I can put stuff together for youtube at this current point in my life.

thats gotta be one of the darkest things in Gundam
thunderbolt really covered every single terror of war. death, torture, fear, loneliness, loss, isolation, and the ‘coping’ mechanisms.
while it isn’t the first to do so, the way it was all orchestrated so artistically is incredible.
Politicians and philosophy wars
Gundam Thunderbolt doesn't get enough attention in my opinion, it just a blast and it such an emotional rollercoaster that it actually makes me even more terrified by war, not just because I already have an understanding of it growing up around people who have experienced real war but also thinking about what it'll become, we really have no say for how or when one will start and he just gotta go in and die for a set of beliefs that we don't really understand or care for...THAT is why Gundam Thunderbolt is a masterpiece and why it makes me an even more depressed human being
I read the manga. It is so great. Claudia has more place to do in the novel.
It really needs the full adaption.
Not to mention the absolute pointless/futile nature of it all. Oh yeah, and war crimes.
The violence is pretty good. But that has nothing to do with war. War is a job. You grow up and you find out that jobs can be rough and you make a lot of physical and emotional sacrifices, and instead of it being a spectacle people just act like it's the everyday. War is the same way, except instead of a mouse and keyboard there's guns. You work out more. You accept that some people's jobs are easier. And you actually miss your coworkers when they leave.
Everyone wants to be a mech pilot in the gundam universe until you get a POV shot of what that looks like: a giant metal monster ripping you apart limb from limb before finally cooking you alive with a giant laser sword
Kind of like what being in a tank felt like.
For a show about giant robots this franchise is probably the most accurate depiction of war in anime
Gundam Origin does a good job as well.

Hell, in MS-Team series, it deal with issue of "Unique Custom Mech" which obviously with stretched thin supply lines, it have difficultly to get proper "unique" spare parts and ended with cannibalizing whatever they could get their hands on.
I love how Frank actually sounded like Thunderbolt's narrator at the beginning. As in he sounded like he could narrate.
The first gundam show i’ve seen where the real antagonist is the war itself. I hope we see more gundam shows like this.

Just a friendly reminder that this takes place almost at the same time as the original Mobile Suit Gundam
To put it simply it give us different perspectives of the one year war. I really like how the creators go back to it and create different media not just showing Amuro's and Char's point of view.
Yup, it takes place around the same time as 0080 and Rise From The Ashes (really good Dreamcast game), iirc 08TH MS Team’s story had finished* by the time Thunderbolt picked up.
* Aside from the last episode, of course.
@@Cagliostro81 I believe thunderbolt isn’t right after 0080 since 0080 mainly takes place right before and like a day after the siege of Solomon. Although of course the ending scene for 0080 is after the war ends entirely. Really cool how the stories cover so much.
Its actually in an alternate timeline but still set in the UC around the same time as OG Gundam

The more I watch this, the more I realized we were never told, who was good and who was bad in the Gundam universe.. this right here, is plain as day, the mind trickery off war, putting people who don’t even know each other against each other while the corpos sit on their fancy thrones and chairs watching the madness safely..~ smdh.

What I love about Thunderbolt is that while the new type stuff in main Gundam series tends to bog down an other while good plot. Stuff like Thunderbolt gets straight to the point, you don't need to see the world through a phycic kid to the utter pointless of war. It just shows war is bad rather than telling
That feel when you re-watched Thunderbolt more than you have 8th MS team just in a span of a month.

Heck, I would say that this surpassed IBO and 00 as my favorite Gundam anime (I mean it is a four way tie for me between the: Barbatos, Atlas, Exia, and Nu Gundam in terms of gunpla design).
Considering how much longer The 08th MS Team OVA is vs both Thunderbolt movies that’s not exactly a huge task to accomplish, lol.
The thing that ultimately makes this video amazing is the fact that in Japan, Frank Sinatra is a suuper touchy subject. The leader of Aum Shinrikyo (The people that used sarin gas in the Tokyo subways) was obsessed with My Way and sung it for hours at karaoke bars, and if you do that nowadays, people get their asses beat for doing it. The fact that the Zeon and hopefully this new cult are all listening to Sinatra-like big-band music might be tapping into those stigmas to further reinforce the morbid shit that goes on in the series.

This is beautiful. Sinatra fits Thunderbolt so well. Can still hear Io's Jazz bleeding through at the end during the part with the Zakus perspective but the rest is so perfect i can totally forgive it.

This gundam took the design concept as berserk. You're following a Zenon Soldier for majority of it. A faction that you should not like in the slightest. Yet he's designed to look like a gundam main character. On the other side you have the gundam pilot and he looks like a villain. But they are both human. Fighting their causes. Have people they care about and want to protect. And probably fighting a petty war orchestrated by their politicians. Impressive work. I'll be watching many times in the future. Still need to finish og Gundam.

Hey, so I haven't been doing that whole youtube thing for a pretty good while, really sorry about that. To make it really brief, college, school and social life kinda get in the way of that. Mostly because in my personal life I also do a lot of editing and filming, so not much room to do that for other things.
I don't want to give up on the channel, but with it just being me of course, uploads will probably always be all over the place, or in this case, nowhere in the place (that make sense? probably not). I do have things set for a Voltron video I was so ready to do, but of course life happened. Thankfully this semester is almost over, so I'll have about a month of grace to edit for the Voltron video before season 2 of Legendary Defender releases, it's on netflix, please watch it. So sometime around January expect that video, I'd recommend that little bell icon, it should notify you whenever I upload stuff cause I have no schedule anymore.

Those films were brutal. That poor Dr Mitchum. After surviving the thunderbolt battle, her PSTD meter peaked off the charts. Hopefully a conclusion to Bandit flower will be released someday.
This is one of my all time favorite amvs! Thunderbolt is probably the only Gundam that took my feels behind an abandoned Red Lobster and shot it multiple times.
