This was the type of film that was used as part of the RNSPT (Royal Navy Schools Presentation Team). This team toured schools as part of the officer recruitment approach. They had a Wessex MK5, did a brief air display at the school, landed on, then did a formal presentation. Great fun to be part of.
Proper speaking voice - clear and precise. Bob Holness used to narrate these films in the 1960’s although he was known as Robert - proper times with high standards, very sorely missed.
Only just discovered this channel, subscribed....This is a great video; '87 was the year I joined the RN and this brought back some good memories....I think the only platform left in service from this video is the Hunt Class, all the rest are sadly gone...
We Brits are a bizarre tribe: we are both good at irony yet extremely hypocritical. Is it not a tragic irony that the very first Argentinian warship to arrive at the Falklands was a type 42 destroyer? Or that in spite of our carping about the French supply of Exocet that our Type 22 Frigates carried Exocet to? I am as patriotic as the next Brit and will duel with anyone who contends that but I honestly recommend reading ‘War is a Racket’.
HMS Boxer.......and the Yeoman that walks into the Ops room with an oscar from FO Guzz at 14:38 is Donkey Bray! Us Buntings getting our normal starring role..... :-)

Even these carriers proved there worth not like the mess of useless made rubbish at present.
35 years later the main broadcast alarm for action stations still send a shiver down my spine
All these films are excellent - thanks for sharing.
Pretty sure thats John Humphrys of Radio 4 fame narrating, with his best posh Navy accent :)

Yes it is and I've only just found this by chance. Good times.
When we were the envy of the world.
Not any more. They’re all laughing at us now.
i don't know, we were comparably much weaker in the 80's than in previous decades. Now they're just laughing at us even more.
Doesn’t take long for the standard to slip.
