She is well aware of the different conditions that exist in different countries! Angelina and her family have turned down many who wanted to sign a contract with her. But at 14 yo, she signed on for the Republic record. The condition of this contract is that Angelina and her family decide when it is time to promote her fully.

So what does Angelina do differently in this casual, outdoor rooftop performance? She stays 'spot on' with Ella's version but simply slows it down. When they say 'less can be more', this is what they are talking about, for to me it is the best rendition of this song I have ever experienced.

Billie was the most improvisational singer of all time, inventing aspects of vocal delivery that no other singer did. It's amazing when you realize that as a poor, uneducated Black singer she had no musical mentors and sang from the soul like no other singer ever did. Once she reached the night clubs of Harlem, she became the true 'Queen Of Jazz'.
Her performance of this was absolutely amazing and for her to be able to stick to the original version with the same tone but a slight alteration is amazing and shows the depth of her creativity

This recording happened the day before she left for LA for the first time to prepare for the move that would come two years later when she was 12. She was 10 years old in this video. It was recorded on a rooftop in Oslo, the capital of Norway. It aired live on an extremely popular television program here. When you think about the meaning of the song and that she would leave Norway for the summer, it somehow fits quite well. On National TV and so relaxed... This song was written by Cole Porter in 1944. Benny Goodman made it famous in 1945. Elle covered it in 1956 with her incredable rendition. It's since been connected with Ella although it wasn't written for her. Angelina performs with a lightness and clarity that is so unique. Today she could probably still perform the song to perfection. But, I believe we'll never again hear this special performance of a little angel on a rooftop in Oslo...
