I have something very special for you to listen to, it is Angelina Jordan at 10 years old. it is a demo she did for the dong I'm Still Holding Out for You. The song was leaked a few years ago and a fan mad a lyrics video for it. The link is:

Please remember she was 10 or to be more accurate she recorded it a week before her 11th birthday. Once you hear the song you will understand why I keep saying her age. The original song writer is called Baby Fuzz and he did record it a couple of years after she did the demo. You can find his version on UA-cam. but her version hits different and will move you. Also, the fan allows the video to be played without copywrite strikes so you can play it all the way without stopping but I have only seen a few people do so because the song is so moving.

There is some unexplainable component of Angelina's voice that just captivates me unlike any singer I have ever heard. It's something almost unheard that triggers emotions at a core level. I have been trying to figure out what it is for years, but it still eludes me. It could be the simple fact that it sounds like she feels every note... and it causes me to feel every note.
I feel exactly the same Rusty.
I've thought long and hard about why Angelina brings tears to our eyes and I think the answer is threefold. First of all, Angelina has this innate ability to tap into the emotional meaning of a song; breathe in and embody its essence and genuinely transmit that sentiment. Secondly, we fans have developed a strong emotional attachment. We have watched her grow and blossom from a beautiful little angel into the majestic star that she is today. We feel a connection of familiarity as if she were a little sister, daughter, or grandchild. And third, I believe that we are subconsciously triggered by audible sounds in the stye of her vocalisations that mimic the sound of actual crying. So, given her natural abilities and our emotional predisposition, it only makes sense that we would fall prey to our mirror neurones' involuntary reactions.
Her having a Pure Honest Loving Soul is felt when you see her, the same thing Elvis had. So when they sang or sing in her case along with the Emotion they put into the song, you feel that Pure Love for Humanity. To me it's a gift from God and that is why it's unexplainable, God Bless!

I totally agree with you, Rusty. I also feel that it is because she enters into the song completely mixed with her strong desire to reach the hearts of all that hear her.
Angelina singing this kind of ballad is always a gift from heaven. The emotions she stirs up in me are difficult to explain. Her singing is so gentle, yet so powerful. I can literally feel my blood pressure go down when she starts to sing. A once in a lifetime (at least in mine) vocalist. 😎

I listened to Adele singing this song few times. She is an excellent writer and singer but I didn’t connect to the song and the lyrics like I did when I listened to Angelina. She has a way of penetrating the heart and touching its emotional cords like no other singer does.

Andrea, well done. It is fragility combined with "tasteful" belting, that is defently a Agelina trademark. I think what makes the "the great ones" is their ability to make the songs they sing is almost like"comfort food" for your soul. Her style and tone feels like that to me.

Hi Andrea, I identify with your emotions, because Angelina sings Adele's songs very well, but All I Ask, she far surpassed the original, the variables of fragility and sweetness contrasting with the power of her voice and her ability to organize everything this in a wonderful performance!, really generates a lot of emotion. Thanks Andy for your comment. I would add that many reactors who are supporting their young artists also recommend subscription to the official Channel and provide that in their description. Angelina uses that vulnerable voice when it helps to convey the feeling the song is trying to convey. Her cover of Heal The World is done completely in breathy voice. It is all about the music and telling the story, never about showing off.

I already talked about some unusual things she did here in another comment, but I completely forgot to mention That Run. It's so uncharacteristic of her. You noted how it seemed "a little imperfect". I think I understand what you mean, but really, I am amazed at how precise the individual notes are, considering how she's singing it. It almost sounds (ever so) slightly autotuned (or whatever the "manual" equivalent is called - I guess "manually tuned"). Regardless of whether it was manipulated at all "in post", her choice of how to sing it was a bold one: instead of maintaining the same level of variation through the run or increasing it, as most singers would, she _decreases_ the variation in the notes as she goes, until she is barely changing pitch at all at the end. And can we _talk_ about how many different pitches she squeezes into just the single word "don't"? I count 19 distinct pitches in about 2.5 seconds (which actualy suggests to me that it _wasn't_ manipulated, because there are so many _tiny_ little variations in there). Who _does_ that??😄
I think Angelina sings 90% of covers better than the original artist. This is one of those covers that's better than the original. Can't wait for her first album.

When Angelina was born I think she come out of the womb singing
There's her performance of "Its a mans world" recorded on a mobile, so with just ok audio quality. I've recently watched a professional recording, same song/orchestra/stage. As expected the sound quality was leaps ahead and the orchestra sounded really great. The singer had a good likebable voice. He left out most of the belts and runs though. All in all that felt quite underwhelming. I wouldnt have expected myself it would make that much of a difference.
She's never been under the grinding effects of a prolonged concert tour yet, though. I hope that will be sustainable for her in that environment as well. E.g. Whitney Housten appearently sometimes chose to sing her songs in a lower key for live concerts.
BTW: I always loved it when even some of her musicians got that dreamy look of pure joy on their face. You got it, too. Yes, she's really is something else.

Crazy that a 14 year old can convey such emotion. If you want your mind blown, you MUST listen to this demo AJ recorded when she was 10 years old. She was the first to record this. The only other version is by the songwriter Baby Fuzz aka Brandon Lowry. Angelina's version was never released, but was leaked about 18 months later. It was taken down and yhen allowed to be on UA-cam. The video is stunning and fan made. This is a #1 hit if it was released. It is Angelina's best song to date. A masterpiece.

You are a very talented singer and have gone into this at a much later age, and that needs to be considered. You didn't start at 2 years of age. I love your voice and I think that you are meant for great things. You have the looks to boot. I know that shouldn't be important but it is.
Angelina👣 cut out the 3 vers both for age appropriateness and as it wouldn't be relevant or believable for her to sing as she has done with many Songs over the Years where she rearranges and even rewrites the lyrics to fit her so it's appropriate for her to sing like she has done with "Rehab" and Back to Black by Amy Winehouse where she drastically changed the lyrics but so delicately that if You hadn't heard the song to often You would think it was original.

I love your channel, your unique style and your warm, sincere reactions. When I watch your videos I always feel comfortable in knowing that this is someone who knows what she speaks of .
Angelina does a lot of things here that she never, or at least rarely, did before. For example, the way she ends the first half of the song by abruptly ending the final word in the line "…never love again", without using any "sustain" or vibrato at all, is _highly_ unusual for her. I feel like she did that specifically to "leave us hanging", to maintain a certain level of "tension" through the brief instrumental break. (IOW, extending the note and using vibrato might have felt too much like a "resolution".) And then at the _very_ end of the song, on the same phrase, she extends the final vowel sound of "again" but doesn't use any vibrato on it until she's already singing the "n" sound. This seems to me to be quite unusual, as well. (But maybe I'm just not used to a song ending on a nasal consonant.)

Angelina is an incredibly instinctual singer. She hardly ever sings the verses and chorus' the same way twice. There is always a little difference that makes the listener think. Angelina has had definite periods of vocal styles. This period is her incorporating runs and that breathy thing she does. The breathy thing reminds me of Norah Jones. I don't know if Angelina opened for Norah very much but Angelina did when she was in South Korea at the same time as Norah. Here is a link of Angelina doing an encore. Norah wasn't quite ready yet so she asked Angelina to sig another song. She sang 'I Put A Spell On You' but a more subdued version. Still great, but subdued. You also get to see how Angelina handles a crowd. Pretty impressive. Here's the link.

Whenever Adele sings a ballad you get pure non-jazz Adele and she is
excellent. However, when Angelina sings a ballad, and especially a heartfelt
one like this, you quickly realize that she is a tried and true jazz singer.
Whether people want to accept it or not, there is no way, in my estimation,
that a non-jazz singer, even Adele, can match the emotional penetration that
Angelina produces. Because Angelina is also a 'vocal chameleon', able to
channel other singer's voices beautifully, she brings forth the essence of Adele
here, but adds the 'breathy', 'whisper like', 'sensual' nuances that Billie Holiday
was known for. Not satisfied in stopping there, she then goes to the furthest,
opposite end of the jazz spectrum where Amy Winehouse reigned as the most
uniquely different jazz singer of all time. Angelina incorporates the 'slurring' of
words that Amy would do, as well as adding Amy's style of changing 'key' in
mid-sentence. Couple all this together and you hear what sounds like four
superstar singers in an individual song. Have never heard another singer do
something this intricately complex.

Andrea what i have to say about this reaction is of course Angelina absolutely nailed it as always, however watching you and your reaction to this song was kind of sad. You had mentioned before the video that you were going through something and your expression when you started listening looked like it connected to you on a deeper level! I hope i am wrong but if not i am sorry you went through what ever you did. But at the same time it is crazy and beautiful how music can connect to our lives in so many ways. Again thank you for your wonderful videos and BEAUTIFUL MUSIC you create and sing!

I listened again to your two latest songs and they are beautiful. Somehow they remind me of Jewel.
Adele writes amazing songs with personal experience and pain. When comparing the two voices, I feel Angelina’s voice has more warmth and richness. Yes she pours her soul into these songs and her emotions wash over us. She has a very rich vocal toolbox and uses it with perfection. She does not seem to sing to impress but to perform and to tell the story and her runs and variations seem to be aiming at that as well.
Angelina did not sing the whole song: the original has a bridge and a third a verse :-)

PLEASE DO Angelina's 1st original release next, "Million Miles" from Republic Records where she got signed at age 14. Not only did she wright this song at 14 years old, but it was in memory of her Grandfather who had just died. it will just melt your heart. Also her latest release is called 7th Heaven, which she also wrote, and it's very jazzy which shows she's sticking to her roots and developing her own style.
I believe we must support this talented girls present and budding career and promote not only what she's done but to promote and introduce her original work as well. Like you Andrea, She is the definition of an ARTIST!

She's singing this in a type of duet style, this will really blow your mind. Her range in this song gets down into her lower register into the 2nd octave.
