Great comparison and thanks for the tutorial Steve. I tried this for several months last summer and fall and came to the same conclusion that the sand silica is better all around. It’s particles even turn dark orange when they can no longer absorb moisture but the microwave will dry them out so you can re-use them.

Just a tip. If you want the freshest roses, give the head of the rose a squeeze. If it’s hard, you know it is fresh. If the head is soft, if is old. 😉

Thank you so much for the product comparisons! I, too, didn't care much for the lil drying balls and there are many flowers that don't do well in the microwave, plus I figure excessive use isn't good for the nuker either. You can also dry with table salt too. Much cheaper!…. But very important tip. DO NOT SEAL container with flowers/Salt as the salt will clump up as it absorbs moisture. Just leave with lid off or I actually cut slits in my lid and pop in airing cupboard out of the way for 1 week.

That is so much easier than how I've been doing it! I've been propping up the pyramid mold to fill each side, which takes forever! I will definitely be making a silicone insert so I can get it done in a fraction of the time! I just got into making pyramid "lamps" just as the season was closing last year. I just put the lights in the resin. So if something happened to the lights and they wouldn't work anymore, you can't fix them. Using an insert to save on resin also solves the broken lights problem because they're not attached to the pyramid! Genius!

I’ve seen preppers buy the larger bags. They put a spoonful or two into the mesh bags and drop them into food items like beef jerky, oatmeal packets or things that will clump, for long storage. Also in humid areas the dried flowers get damp over time so a little bag keeps them from molding. It’s much cheaper in bulk bc those tiny packets are expensive. 👌
