  • Mercy Keino whose body was found on the road after attending a party allegedly hosted by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo was not murdered, the court has ruled. Principal magistrate Peter Ndegwa who has heard the case for five years now says Mercy Keino died as a result of a road accident after consuming alcohol. The ruling was delivered some minutes after 11 oclock today at Kahencha law courts in Migori county. Only lawyers of Kabogo and Mercy Keino's family and a handful of journalists were present when the ruling was made. Several people including Kiambu Governor William Kabogo who hosted a party at Wasini Luxury suites in Westlands where the deceased was last seen alive had adversely been mentioned in relation to her death. About six girls, among them Miss Keino's cousin attended the party. Four years ago, Director of public prosecutions Keriako Tobiko ordered the inquest after police failed to link her death to any suspect. CCTV footage obtained by the cyber crime unit showed Keino being roughed up by two men who led her away but the prosecutor pointed out, when the footage was played in court, that it did not paint a true picture of what transpired. The ruling which essentially terminates the case , comes even after the Government pathologist Johansen Oduor had told the inquest that Keino was seriously injured before she died.

...if she was at the party with her cousins why can't people just be their brother's keeper!?

From what I've seen I doubt this was a homicide. Why? There probably was a fairly vicious assault where Kabogo might have smacked her around, and the bodyguards roughed her up some more thereafter, but homicide just doesn't seem to fit the bill. It would have been interesting if the summary of the autopsy was released to indicate her intoxication levels. If she was extremely drunk then more likely than not she just stumbled here or there and got smacked down by some vehicle.
