- The Aunt Jemima brand is being scrapped after years of complaints about its packaging’s racist “mammy” stereotype depiction of a black woman. Quaker Oats announced that it would discontinue the brand, which has featured the Aunt Jemima character since 1889. The change was sparked after singer Kirby’s TikTok deriding the brand went viral. Customers should see new packaging arriving on grocery store shelves later this year, though the company has not yet announced what it will look like. #InsideEdition

I've eaten Aunt Jemima's since I was a little girl and it had never occurred to me that she was a "black woman." I thought she was like EVERYBODY'S Aunt that made yummy breakfasts.
