    when you rush to be politically correct, oftentimes you end up erasing history...

    • @ariyahyisrael1232
      @ariyahyisrael1232 3 роки тому +39

      I do hear that, but political correctness has to be in context. For example someone who sold and profited from slavery or who fought wars to keep people enslaved should not be "honored" but people who contributed to make this world a better, brighter and happier place deserve to be recognized with real depictions of what they looked like and not the minstrel cartoonish depictions.

      You're so right...I certainly believe that people...everyone, regardless of their ethnicity, certainly deserves respect, but the thing you mentioned, about so-called Political Correctness, nauseates me...after all, Right, Wrong or Indifferent, we should not try and reshape history. It is what it is...that goes for the removal of statues, as well.
      Thanks for the intelligent comment!

      Yeah she had a lifetime contract, but when she became too old to market the brand, she had to clean houses into her 80’s because that contract they had her sign locked her into a low ball agreement. Brand takes off and makes tons of money, but she never saw the benefits of that. She got hit by a car and buried in an unmarked grave. The company obviously didn’t value her, only what she could provide for them.

      @@pixeled9683 let's get empathetic here. Your great great grandmother made a recipe that revolutionized American breakfast as we know it. She is an American icon that's never recognized, and her brand she helped create has an estimated revenue of 300 million dollars. This same great great grandmother was able to use her small earnings to buy a small house for herself, and when she died, her family were still poor and could not even afford to give her a headstone. To say that her family were fucked over would be an understatement. She never got the money or the recognition she deserved, that could have put her family in better circumstances. That's why her family deserves royalties, because they would have had $$$ in the first place if things had been fair.

      Ok who specifically should get the money. Didnt the lady pass in the 20'? Which family member even knew they were related to her? Who knew her story? Or should they just pay a relative just because they are a relative?

    • @dedeshikaalabi-mensah9471

      Nunya Bizness They should pay her direct descendants ie. Her children’s children(grandchildren and great grand children) up unit four generations. That is standard practice. They also could pay her brothers children because they are direct descendant as retainer relatives.

    Wow this is insane Thank you for this post!! All this time I really thought she was not real till I found out some time in late 90’s .. when our parents asked us what we wanted in the grocery store our first choice was Jemima pancake and syrup,as growing up we didn’t think anything . Shameful they took this icon pancake image out of their products. It’s important not to erase our history. I truly love pancakes. ❤️🥞AUNT JEMINA will live forever in our hearts. (Nancy green)

      She did not invent the pancake mixs. She was the very first person to have her picture on the box. Nancy traveled all over the country. She did alot for this business. But this company wanted to go to Paris and she said no. She was not going to get on a boat and spend 3 weeks crossing the ocean. So they let her go. She was not a millionaire. But she got to travel. She died from being hit by a automobile. She was 89. Her picture being removed from these boxes and syrup bottles are just plain idiotic. Nancy is one reason why that company excel.

      Who won an Oscar for her performance but wasn’t allowed to attend the ceremony because she was black. It’s time to recognize our nations terrible history with race only then can we move forward. I’m an educator and taught many different history curriculums and I’ve seen some outrageous examples of “glossing over” to justifying slavery to calling slaves “helpers who were just happy to be in America” ntm just ignoring instances like the race riot in Tulsa or the murder of Emmet Till and the acquittals of his killers.
      America is great because we are still here despite our really messed up past. If we could just acknowledge ALL of it we would be much better for it but this trying to teach our kids revisionist history is indoctrination to American Exceptionalism and its why there’s such a backlash now.

    My grandmother made pancakes for me every Saturday, while I live with her. I love her. She was born in 1906, May 11. She died February 4, 1990. Thank you God, for letting me be a rich man. Because I was when my Maw walked the earth. I miss her so much. The only person I knew with real common sense.

    I can recall while working for a municipal branch in my city, there in the lobby hung several photos of people with celebrity statues and Aunt Jemima was one of them. I was so proud and it made me feel good because my mom was dark completion , heavy set and ebbed out a decent living for us as a cook. This was back in the 80ties.
