Right, I was writing a whole paragraph about my thoughts on this subject, but I cut it down very short to not bore the person reading this... Is it bad? - No. Is it important? - Depends on the musical situation you're in. Let me explain: If you're in an orchestra, a choir or in a professional, high-level studio session, then yes, it's very important. If you're in a band or play solo solo, playing live or recording in the studio or any other situation similar to the ones I mentioned, then no. I don't think it's important in those situations. Personally, I know a little bit of the basics, but I've never had to use it myself.

Sort of what I said. As a professional session musician it's a must. In some situations it'd not necessary but still good to know.
