Man, if Intel can make some kind of Arc GPU like this, that helps with encoding and compute workloads while on a power bank, that would be so awesome. Or even fitting those laptop GPUs into this form factor like what sellers on Aliexpress have done to make a desktop GPU, that would be so cool.
@@sboinkthelegday3892 with the way things are going with the portable handhelds. I think it might be around for some time. Especially as chips get smaller and more powerful.
I've been thinking for years that this is the way to go with eGPUs. The biggest problems with gaming laptops are: 1) Cost/Lack of upgradeability 2) Size/Weight 3) Power/Battery Life 4) Cooling/Noise An eGPU capable of running off either it's own dedicated battery, or an external power delivery capable one, would help solve all of these problems at once.
Some of us don’t need them for car rides/bus trips/ whatever else kids like handhelds for. I have my own wheels so I use handheld pcs in static locations only. Things like this or worrying about battery life will never be a thing for me because I’m not lugging it around in a backpack like a 16 year old 😂
We have almost attained the future that I dreamed of back when I was lugging around my original GameBoy, all of it's headgear/accessories, and five pounds of AA batteries to get me through a road trip.
A small DC powered EGPU Enclosure that allows you to put low profile GPU's of your choice would be nice, and I think this video would of had more of an impact if you used it on a cheap laptop with mendicino graphics
I really like it, but i'll be waiting until someone makes one with 6-8GB of vram. There are a LOT of games that would be good on this, if it had just a tiny bit more vram. The two oculink egpus that are out right now look great too, but they just aren't small enough. I really like how this one is can be battery powered. I have an RX570 Sonnet Puck eGPU, that i was able to power from a battery, but it takes a crazy amount of power, like the same power of a full size RX570.
You'd think with tech like this at this point one of these big companies should just make a slightly bulkier handheld with a decent battery and gpu built in.
I have a z13 with an i9 and a 4070. It's the size of a surface. So like it's possible to have a handheld with a slightly smaller form factor, better battery and decent performance. They just need to make it happen lol
@@soul3lixirthe problem is cooling. Notebooks might be similar in size to handhelds but they have way more space for cooling and the added benefit of not being held directly in your hands.
Instead of using the RTX A500 chip in a dodge palm sized eGPU it would have been better as a built-in dedicated GPU connected to the screen by HDMI or DP or something like that. It would probably be able to stretched its legs a bit more.. or better yet double the power by using the RTX A2000 GPU chip in a palm sized eGPU or as on board dedicated GPU as that is a PCI express slot power only card so 65W or 70W around that and as good as a 3060 performance (mostly)

Nvidia could release a GPU with battery for those who have budget laptops. Something with the power of a GTX1630 would be a big upgrade to my UHD620 iGPU. Even GT1030 would be a nice upgrade.
Not sure I understand why at $480? I am very happy with what I can obtain with a 780M with 8GB versus this with 4GB.
