Most Aus riders are adding a 15t front sprocket and taller screen to this bike. Very few negative reports, biggest complaint is a missing drain hole in the bash plate support bars, easily rectified by drilling a 3mm hole at the lowest point.

@@Douknowgregg to your point, they have done a decent job of differentiating the various brands with the components they bolt on, as with the use of the linkage for the KTM models, but the underlying engines are all the same with only slightly differing maps. The real fight is gonna be between this bike and the new RE Himalayan. Seems to me these are the companies really trying to compete in the bang4buck arena, great winfor consumers.
@@briansullins4778 I sit on the highways at around 110kph and it’s fine. It’s not a bike that is really suited to highway riding given it’s a small capacity engine.
Love to see that you enjoyed it! The 450 Ibex really seems like THE perfect small ADV. MCN's praise for it was absolutely glowing which is so rare from them. The only thing missing is cruise control but that's a big ask on an entry level bike!
@@pleasedontwatchthese9593 and? The majority of people don't buy these bikes. The super sport category has been in decline for years now. The majority of people around the world don't ride these big bikes.
For someone looking to get offroad for the first time without breaking the bank it's basically perfect. Or if you want to leave the dualsport world and get an ADV bike, it's great for that too.
US regulations are why bikes like XR650, DR650 don't change. They get grandfathered because there is no major design change. Change the bike and the whole thing has to go through and meet the new regulatory requirements. Which is why there is a five year production window for new designs to meet regulations.
if you want to know the wet weight take it down to your next refuse recycle station where they have a weigh platform & you can then get an accurate wet weight on the reading, ususally outside the office building between the entry/exit.
Finally some decent options in the entry level ADV space. It's just a pity there's only 2 & none of them are from the big 4. The 400ish cc range seems to be the hottest bike segment at the moment, but the most compelling models all come from manufacturers in China or India, and none of them touched the ADV space until CFMOTO's 450MT (IBEX for the Yanks) & RE's Himalayan 450 were recently announced. And it's an easy choice. Want a modern ADV with all the bells & whistles then go for CFMOTO. Prefer a more vintage looking bike that hearkens back to the earliest ADV's then the Himalayan is for you. Kawasaki better have a Versys 450 up their sleeve for November, otherwise they're going to lose what little market share they have left in this segment.
I mean it never gets compared but the KLR really should. It might be a 650 but its weight, power, and even tech is comparable to what you would find on a beginner small CC ADV.
I really want one of these next summer. I have only ridden a few dirt bikes about 25 years back and that is my only experiance on a motorized bike of any sort. The price is right, the power is great, sounds amazing, and it looks fantastic! The only thing that keeps me from nearly going out now and reserving one is that we're in need of a new or newer vehicle first and my family is against me getting anything with a motor and two wheels.
This bike looked good to me in the videos, but when i saw it in the dealer store my jaw dropped. It's a feast for the eyes. No other bike got me so hyped like this one. I own a Transalp 700 which is a very bad bike. 450mt has it all, reliability (everyone in yt are thrashing this bike and have no major problems), good consumption, very comfortable seat and ergonomics, tubeless wheels, low weight, good suspension, and it's not small, it can travel with luggage onboard and pillion on the speed limits. As for the Tenere comparison. I would never give money for something that i can't travel on because of it's stupid saddle. Tenere is enduro only bike and nothing more.
Yes, the 450 engine is excellent! I don't think I'd classify the Ibex as a beginner bike. The first batch arriving at my employer have been pre-sold and it's experienced riders who are tired of top heavy bikes or too tall bikes. Thanks for the video.
@@dcmphoto7437 pretty sure no one would drive a Corvette with a 4 cylinder engine though. That's my point, ADV bikes are all about power to weight ratio.
I’m back! Took a break when things went away from the ADV and took the lean toward electric. Good work Spite! Enjoyed the review on a new bike I hadn’t considered before.
I have this bike. 1500 miles so far. Loving it, and only a small amount of previous experience off road. Could easily travel on it, especially avoiding the faster, boring roads. My other bikes are all pure road bikes so the price for this one meant I was lucky enough to be able to add it to the garage without losing one of the others. :) Just one point. Those tyres are the same as ours by the look of it. Not Pirelli, but CST tyres, with a similar pattern to the STR. A Chinese tyre, CST is the parent company of Maxxis if I read correctly.
I'm about to buy my first bike soon, and I was looking for these to try out but there aren't any available in my area unfortunately. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
I had a ton of fun on this bike. I think the only thing I'd want the tune off the 450ss or the NK for a bit more grunt on the street, but otherwise it's a phenomenal package.
Cool bike. Dig the large tank, ergonomics, price, push button ABS, basic but functional display, etc. The 400-500 segment is idea for dual-sports.... But 400+ pounds is NOT light. The KTM690, and equivalent, are about 325lbs and have 20 more hp, better clutch, etc..... CFMoto and Kove are doing great things though. Hope they continue. Love the huge tanks
@@christopherpekel6096 The 690 and Husky 701 shouldn't even be in the conversation with ADV they're Enduro and lack a lot of comforts for longer rides. A T7 is 450lbs~ as an example.
Hi Spite, just wanted to address concerns about the Honda 500X. I ride the X, because I have a slight physical disability, it is reliable, easy to handle, can do easy off-road, carries my luggage and it's incredibly easy for me to get parts. I'm not looking to be a speed-demon. It suits ME. Sorry to disagree with you, Nat.
I've been watching this bike since they released it. Spite's reaction to the Ibex is pretty typical. There are a ton of them in Australia getting hard miles on them and the 450MT (same bike) is loved. Not liked, loved. Most think it a mini T7. I haven't seen many big problems with them either. CF also seems like a well-run company with layers of international ownership/investment. They are seriously invested in setting up in North America, too. I'm impressed even before I see the bike for real
I think the Kove adv. 800x is the perfect balance between a CFMoto 450 Ibex and a Super Adventure 1390 from KTM. The Kove has a 800ccm displacement engine and a weight (fueled up) ready to go of 415 pounds.
Isn't that the manufacturer who entered and finished the Dakar on their first ever show room production 450, against factories that have been competing for decades?

When u do a review why do u have to compare the bike to other bikes with much bigger engines and cost twice as much, just review the bike on its own merits. Again, there are heaps of accessories for this bike, straight up. If CFmoto gains the capability to compete in MotoGP, it would be a significant milestone for the brand and China’s motorcycle industry. Competing at that level would demonstrate their advanced technology, engineering, and racing expertise. It would also boost their global reputation as a premium motorcycle manufacturer. Being in MotoGP means competing against well-established brands like Yamaha, Honda, and Ducati, so CFmoto's participation would showcase their ambition to be recognized among the top in the world of motorsports.
Likely never. It takes tens of millions of dollars just to run the team, then add on the millions for the R&D of a bike. All those big brands in MotoGP are very well established, multi-billion dollar companies. They do Sponsor a Moto 2 team.
Put that engine in a KTM EXC chassis, keep the abs switch, add a rally fairing and you'll have the unicon. This bike is not the unicon and it doesn't challenge the Tenere 700. But, 44 hp is plenty off road and all the bikes already do this well, it's sustained HWY cruising ability that they're missing.
It isn't supposed to challenge the T700. The bike is both more expensive and has a much bigger engine. For highway cruising simply change the sprocket and add a taller windscreen. But this isn't the point of use of this bike anyways.
I find it interesting that when people talk about middle weight ADV bikes, they hardly ever mention the Benelli TRK 502 and TRK 702. This bike is outselling the GS in some countries in Europe. Benelli just dropped the TRK 552 to replace the 502. It comes with a lot of nice features as standard that would be costly upgrades on any other bike.
Thats because the TRK 502 is anything else but not a middle weight class bike. Its more a small displacement bike with the weight of an GS 1250. And the worst part is that the weight is distributed more at the top, making it feel sluggish and heavy.
@@sportify4849 Exactly the point I was trying to make. It's huge and heavy for being an ADV with small displacement. It's a great looker ill admit but would never buy it.
@@Nucklehead-mm9gfExactly.the Benelli is not a good comparison against GS. The GS is a true off-road and on road bike, the Benelli is for those long dirt roads that people who don't ride long or are new will prefer. It's like comparing a Peugeot 208 with a BMW X5. Sure they are cars but their segment and purpose is way different.
I'm going to seriously look at these. Been looking for a lighter play bike, but need it to be able to do highway speeds for a while at a time since i live in western Colorado. I'm also keeping an eye open for my kid, who's only 5'3", for a bike to get him into riding along with me. KLR is just a bit too big and tall to be a practical thing to learn on.
I just keep waiting for kawasaki to put the new 500 engine in the Versys x300. Dont get me wrong, the 300 is fast enough for a bike that weighs 385 pounds, but it has no torque or power until you hit 8000 rpm.
I would love to see a comparison to the CRF300L Rally. I know one is more of a dual sport with a fancy trim package, but I think it would be a fun comparison all the same.
MCN has a direct comparison in their recent Small ADV group test! The Honda performed much faster off-road but they didn't actually prefer it as a ride.
If the Himalayan 450 had a twin cylinder (285⁰ crank or a 315⁰ crank for the noise )engine similar to the cf 450 and weighed 180 kg (165 kg for perfection). It would have been the best ADV.
Which ever manufacturer makes a fully faired adv bike with 50 - 60hp, under 400lbs, and decent suspension, they will own the "middleweight" market, in the mean time, ill keep my Tenere!
@burddog0792 nah, the AJP PR7 fits the bill, but it's a pretty niche bike, so does the KTM 690 if they would just build a more adventure oriented version of it... it will happen.
@@NMAdv A 690 ADV off the showroom floor would be a good bit less than building one up on the aftermarket. And yes, the price of the base bike justifies what you get, but that's why they won't make a 690 ADV either, because while it would be lighter than a 790/890 R, it would still be a niche bike with a price around $14k 690 still makes sales because it fills the void from no one else making ~650cc thumper super dual sports.
I've watched several reviews now but nobody seems to be talking about the elephant in the room...gearing. From what I understand, it spins at about 5800 RPM at 100 kph, or 62 mph. That translates to about 7500 RPM at 80 MPH. With an 8000 RPM redline, running it on the highway at 80 seems like too much. I love the idea of smaller, lighter and less expensive, but without reasonable highway capabilities, it falls short as a true ADV bike, at least here in the states.
@spitescorner If you were to choose for a beginner that wants to go offroading, that already has a bigger bike. Would you choose the 450MT over a CRF300l?
Why would they put a small engine in a heavy bike, T7 is only 5% heavier than the 450, makes no sense to drop all that power for such a tiny weight saving.
I have a deposit for the first one at my local dealer, unfortunately, the owner called me to tell me they are being delayed 90 days for delivery of the 450. Bummer.
my biggest issue now is do i get a 2024 450SS for $5k or do i get the 2025 Ibex 450 for whatever it ends up being at dealers? To be clear im currently at a point where i could go either way, sport bike or ADV/dual sport. Im still a beginner but want to expand away from the cruiser style.
I would like to try all the 450 classes . Minus the KTM . The Himalayan, CF Moto, and Ibex. I like them all . But I ended up with the 411 Himalayan . The true reasons . I can work on it . And almost no technology with no radiator to boot . My bike tools around ok . And its great off road . No its not a dirt bike or a high end duel purpose but its comfortable and climbs most mountain sides . ABS I just want to disable the rear ABS . I dont care if I have ABS all of my Harley's didn't have ABS but yet I traveled half of the United States on a Super Glide with no ABS . Power is subjective . My normal speed is 70 mph . And the 411 does ok . Anything more its not the best tool for that type of riding . But I knew what I was buying . Its a great BDR bike . You can keep those high end ADV bikes . I just dont want a fairing . Due to I have deer runs for riding and a couple of fire roads . I have to go to a neighboring state to ride their states. Freaking pathetic .... But I'll travel this country on major routes and just jump a interstate highway for 20 miles or so . Im good with 65/70 mph . Its a one lunger for heaven sake . Stop with the horsepower crap all ready . Its all about torque and gearing off rode .
It is accurate. The delta is in the angular deflection caused by the height of the scale, which is pretty low and gives about a 1% less than true reading. So 450 pounds is maybe off by 4.5 pounds. I think the actual scale and its calibration and sensitivity would be a bigger factor in the total error value.
3:29 "The fact that you can get 4 inches difference makes a big big big difference." Somewhere else in life this is the deciding power between staying together vs a nasty divorce.
Did you say $6200, or $5200at the end of the video for msrp? Neither of which have I ever been quoted from a dealership in my area. Out the door with everything paid is more like $7800

This and the Kove are actually sort of exciting after years of the same, ultra limited and stale stuff that's been squatting in this segment in the USA

I don't mind it accelerates as a turtle. Let's say i don't even mind it is awfully big, heavy and wide or that i have to change to a high seat. The thing just cannot lean and just wants to go straight, or i am missing something.
Sounds silly saying beginner bike. Cause I've heard people on dual sports call people on the bigger adv bikes beginners also. I'm sure this would beat middle and bigger adv bikes on a dirt course. Time wise. Jmo
That really sucks. Here in New England CF dealers are everywhere. Definitely keep an eye out for early trade-ins next year. $9K is absolutely outrageous.
Spit, ahmm, I mean Spite, I think you hit the nail on the head. While maybe a little more power coming out of the corners could be better, when you get it off road it starts to make sense. While there is no perfect/unicorn Adv the folks at CFmoto are trying really hard to develop and deliver one that comes pretty darned close. We can talk about the weight all day, but realistically the only way that happens is with much more expensive materials. At the end of the day, what we have is a really, really good Adv, that checks a lot of boxes at a price that won’t break the bank. In my mind a person can buy Ibex 450 and thrash on it, if it gets a few scratches and dings on it who cares, it didn’t break you when ya bought it. These are good times we are living in, at least in the motorcycle Adv market.
Umm personal question, how tall are you and how heavy? For my own reference (I'm 95kg, 5'11) wondering if I could travel with a lot of luggage or two up on this
This thing seems really good but man, I just can't wrap my head around buying a Chinese bike. It's not even so much real concerns about reliability or anything, I just can't help feeling that I'd never stop looking it and thinking "maybe I should've bought a Honda instead." Admittedly it doesn't help that I seem to be one of the few who doesn't like the Ibex's looks at all, it's way too Gundam for me, I'm much more of a fan of the new Himalayan's old-school looks and that's something I AM genuinely considering buying because I like it so much despite having similar concerns.
Sorry how do you think you can independently weigh the front with the back on the ground then vice vera with the back and come up with the correct total weight ? I'm no physicist but I'm pretty sure that doesnt work.

Ktm Xc-w's come with brembo hydraulics and pds rear suspension where the latter have linkage rear suspension.
@@Douknowgregg to your point, they have done a decent job of differentiating the various brands with the components they bolt on, as with the use of the linkage for the KTM models, but the underlying engines are all the same with only slightly differing maps. The main frame section is largely the same too, with a slight difference being the carbon composite subframe they put on the Husky.
The real fight is gonna be between this bike and the new RE Himalayan. Seems to me these are the companies really trying to compete in the bang4buck arena, great winfor consumers.
I’ve done 5,000 kilometres so far on my 450MT and this bike is awesome. I’ve even ridden two up with luggage and it performed beautifully. ✌🏽
How is it on the freeway at 80 MPH?
@@briansullins4778 I sit on the highways at around 110kph and it’s fine. It’s not a bike that is really suited to highway riding given it’s a small capacity engine.
It is recommended to replace the current sprocket with a 15t sprocket in order to achieve a higher speed.
Love to see that you enjoyed it!
The 450 Ibex really seems like THE perfect small ADV. MCN's praise for it was absolutely glowing which is so rare from them. The only thing missing is cruise control but that's a big ask on an entry level bike!
It's got a cable throttle which I actually prefer for an ADV bike. One less thing to break in a spill
Perfect for South American roads and trails depending on dealer support.
Nice initial review, looking forward for the full one. Also, maybe in the future waiting for your impressions of the Kove 800X. Safe rides!
Agree , the Kove 800x makes more sense than this, from what I've read, lighter and much more power.
CFMoto is good for everyone. It's forcing everyone to step their game up.
I've been shouting this for a while. People are finally starting to see it.
I totally see that as my personal benefit, because I doubt I’ll ever buy a CFMoto. Probably…

You made me do math and I felt dumb 😂
There were two numbers and two Jakes. We got there in the end.
Japanese have had their foot off the gas for years. CF Moto is coming in fast and listening to what we want . This looks like a unicorn bike !
For someone looking to get offroad for the first time without breaking the bank it's basically perfect. Or if you want to leave the dualsport world and get an ADV bike, it's great for that too.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Compare Chinese with Japanese 🙄🤦🏻🤣🤣🤣🤣
US regulations are why bikes like XR650, DR650 don't change. They get grandfathered because there is no major design change. Change the bike and the whole thing has to go through and meet the new regulatory requirements. Which is why there is a five year production window for new designs to meet regulations.
not just the japanese makes bikes
@@ouricthat is what they said about the British and jap bikes and look what happened 🤔
if you want to know the wet weight take it down to your next refuse recycle station where they have a weigh platform & you can then get an accurate wet weight on the reading, ususally outside the office building between the entry/exit.
its 195.xx ... kg with full gas tank verified by someone i know on a bike scale
Rumour has it that Suzuki will bring out an updated DRZ400 (with EFI and possibly a 6th gear) in 2025...
When you want to bash a motorcycle and have nothing, you say "not enough power". It has the power expected from a 450 cc engine.
So true, the torque and power feel very good for a 450, but another gear would make it perfect ( same ratio) just to cruise at lower rpm
Nice shirt! I just got back from Pattaya and loved enduro madness that’s crazy to see someone with another shirt
Which shirt? The one I'm wearing is from Traction Erag's Big Rock Candy Mountain in Kamloops Canada
@@spitescorner First part of the video his shirt says enduro madness sorry!
Also just curious do you think the bike would make it to 30k miles?
Oh, you meant the other Jake. And yeah, I'd be shocked if the bike didn't make it that far.
That ABS/TC button seems like a no brainer, funny every adv bike doesn't have it.
Why wouldn't they just go for a Kove 800, looks the same lighter and way more power for the road.
@@silverdale3207 IDK, preference I guess. Why doesn't everybody drive a Corvette?
@@dcmphoto7437 pretty sure no one would drive a Corvette with a 4 cylinder engine though. That's my point, ADV bikes are all about power to weight ratio.
I’m back! Took a break when things went away from the ADV and took the lean toward electric. Good work Spite! Enjoyed the review on a new bike I hadn’t considered before.
Looks like a great little bike. Definitely something I’d consider as a daily if I ever need a replacement, I love ADV ergos.
Just one point.
Talked to my dealer in KCMO and they have 4 ordered and expect delivery in December or January.
Gonna be a bit before they arrive
Awesome video! Thanks for the feedback 📝
I had a ton of fun on this bike. I think the only thing I'd want the tune off the 450ss or the NK for a bit more grunt on the street, but otherwise it's a phenomenal package.
@CFMOTOBenelux make this happen! A slight hp bump through an over-the-air update would be beyond unbelievable!
LOL, so it was you...saw Dorks review first...now I know! So I should add crash bars if I plan on letting others ride it. gotcha. good to know.
They're a lot closer to the cfmoto when you set them up like this, I believe you're talking about the stripped down model?
@@christopherpekel6096 The 690 and Husky 701 shouldn't even be in the conversation with ADV they're Enduro and lack a lot of comforts for longer rides. A T7 is 450lbs~ as an example.

Yawn
There’s a review with a 10,000 km ride from Germany to Asia completed on this bike. Didn’t skip a beat.
Who?
Isn't that the manufacturer who entered and finished the Dakar on their first ever show room production 450, against factories that have been competing for decades?
You mean the 450 that wasn't street legal and cost about $3500 too much .
@@scoobleI think third place. But I am not sure. I think the company Kove has potencial of becoming the next big thing with the product adv. 800x being a star.

430 LBS vs T7 being 452 LBS seems like a not big difference, but from reviews people say they feel way different.

I wonder how this will fair after 20 years?
I find it interesting that when people talk about middle weight ADV bikes, they hardly ever mention the Benelli TRK 502 and TRK 702. This bike is outselling the GS in some countries in Europe. Benelli just dropped the TRK 552 to replace the 502. It comes with a lot of nice features as standard that would be costly upgrades on any other bike.
It outsells GS because of taxes and price.
Thats because the TRK 502 is anything else but not a middle weight class bike. Its more a small displacement bike with the weight of an GS 1250. And the worst part is that the weight is distributed more at the top, making it feel sluggish and heavy.
Yeah but the TRK 502 weighs almost 500 lbs and has a 33 inch seat height. I really like it but its too big in my opinion.

@@bradfuller1667 Good choice.
I just keep waiting for kawasaki to put the new 500 engine in the Versys x300. Dont get me wrong, the 300 is fast enough for a bike that weighs 385 pounds, but it has no torque or power until you hit 8000 rpm.
Kawasaki, please read Skierboy's post and give us a 500.
Ive been waiting for this!
If the Himalayan 450 had a twin cylinder (285⁰ crank or a 315⁰ crank for the noise )engine similar to the cf 450 and weighed 180 kg (165 kg for perfection). It would have been the best ADV.
Would you get this or a Moto Morini x-cape? Basically the same price….. would really like your comment.
Which ever manufacturer makes a fully faired adv bike with 50 - 60hp, under 400lbs, and decent suspension, they will own the "middleweight" market, in the mean time, ill keep my Tenere!
Pipe dream
@burddog0792 nah, the AJP PR7 fits the bill, but it's a pretty niche bike, so does the KTM 690 if they would just build a more adventure oriented version of it... it will happen.
@@lorenzotelleria4200 I assumed you were talking about a twin. A 690 rally/adventure would be awesome.
@@NMAdv A 690 ADV off the showroom floor would be a good bit less than building one up on the aftermarket. And yes, the price of the base bike justifies what you get, but that's why they won't make a 690 ADV either, because while it would be lighter than a 790/890 R, it would still be a niche bike with a price around $14k
690 still makes sales because it fills the void from no one else making ~650cc thumper super dual sports.
I must check out my dealer, they're a CFMoto stockist and I have my eye on the CL-C but I could try this out for size
Their 2025 lineup has some serious heavy hitters in it.
If i didn't already have a TransAlp XL750 this would be the bike I'd buy without question.
Cool review 👍🏼
I have one on order. Any day now...
@spitescorner If you were to choose for a beginner that wants to go offroading, that already has a bigger bike. Would you choose the 450MT over a CRF300l?
I hate to say it but I just hope this makes Yamaha make a t4.
I’m looking forward to seeing this bike in person.
Changing abs without stopping…….sold 🍻
I can't stress enough how awesome that feature is. And as far as I know it's one of a kind. Maybe the KTMs let you do it?
I have my doubts that that is an accurate weighing method
Jake says he's gotten really accurate numbers this way. I'm inclined to trust him
@@spitescorner Yeah it looks wonky as Hell but I have seen others use the same method and it's usually pretty dang close.

How is the comfort on longer highway runs? Is this low seat very bad?
For me at 6'3 it's a little cramped, but with the taller seat it would be no problem at all.
I’ve seen people throw a exhaust and a map on these bikes and adds bit more power
I’m really interested in getting one going to test ride one next week!
Do you think it will cruise at 75mph on the highway?
Yes it can... Maybe look into replacing the front sprocket for something "longer" if you will be doing more road than off road.
Yup, no problem. Might be a smidge buzzy, but powerwise there's nothing to worry about
Great bike for the price
Does the exhaust have a nice growl ?
I think so. Especially when you put a pipe on it. Chase just dropped a video putting an exhaust on the 450SS. Same motor, slightly more hopped up tune

Time wise. Jmo
The problem for me is the dealer network at least near me. It's a 6400$ bike yet you can't get it for less than 9k OTD out here because of adm
India is a dump though
the 450mt will be my future bike. It will.
Any rumors when these will start arriving at dealers in the US?
Sorry how do you think you can independently weigh the front with the back on the ground then vice vera with the back and come up with the correct total weight ? I'm no physicist but I'm pretty sure that doesnt work.
This and the new Himalayan 450 are fist fighting for first in the 500 and below category
ADV riders are like 80% highway and 20% trails. 50HP doesn't seem enough for the road and the weight seems too heavy for the dirt
Is that the best way to get an accurate weight measurement?
For me it's only about 30 lbs lighter than my transalp but less than half the horsepower. I don't get it but maybe the suspension is better.
Cfmoto! Now make a naked bike out of your inline triple. A modern classic styling like trident would be nice!
Okay but real question…is it better than my dr200
can't wait to actually be able to test this bike may be it will make regret buying an orange KTM
Calling it a beginner bike is doing the bike a disservice. I’m buying one after owning a Tenere, GSA and a VStrom 1050.
